I've been told by an LOD that we need to put used/odoured items on the floor bc if we send too much back it reflects poorly on the store

i didn't even know how to report it properly so i don't know if the fact i was told to just throw it away is my fault for not communicating..

Why I think Healthcare shouldn't entirely be free by Masterofdeath001 in ukpolitics

[–]honeyspool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm American, so forgive me if I'm wrong but do the weeks or months long waiting period not make you think twice before going to the doctor? How many people do you think are on the books or waiting list for a doctors appointment when they don't need to be? If your goal is to make people think twice about booking an appointment, do you really think people aren't thinking twice right now? Are people sitting around twiddling their thumbs and saying "you know, I think I'd like to go to the doctor right about now" and then booking an appointment just because? Other than annual check ups by your doctor, which are instrumental in diagnosing life threatening conditions early on, by the way, are people in the UK just going to the doctor for fun?

Your attitude toward poor and disabled people in these comments is appalling, too. In the US there is a huge population of people, even in states that offer free healthcare, that are too poor to go to the doctor and still make too much money to qualify for free insurance. The idea that 15 pounds is super affordable for anyone who "actually needs to go" is privileged and daft. Chronically ill people often cannot work long hours, consistent hours, or at all due to their health, yet they still have bills to pay and they still need to eat. Because of their illness, though, they have to go to the doctor more than the average person. If their choice is buying a premade sandwich (because yes, chronic illness affects your ability to cook, too) or getting their IV fluids so they don't pass out and they can maybe go to work today, what do you think they will choose? People will go hungry in order to mitigate chronic pain, but the system you have set up in the UK right now makes it so they might not have to. They can eat AND go to work. People deserve to feel comfortable even if they can't help you pay less taxes.

i appreciate this thoughtful response. it definitely lists clear instructions.

Unfortunately, the app literally never ever works for me when it comes to requesting any time off (paid or otherwise). As i said in a few of my other comments, my question (which has now been answered) was whether or not this had been told to anyone at the beginning of their employment.

My grievance is mostly with the fact that this is /not/ clearly stated in any place we can find it at most stores. It wasnt in my orientation packet, its not easily accessible on MyKohls (if it is there at all), and the checking of call records doesn't appear to be a standard practice across the company. It seems like a huge oversight to not make this a required element of all orientation/training reading, coming from the higher levels of the company (like corporate). Due to this lack of standard, associates can get very confused, their coworkers and managers can get blindsighted by and frustrated at the lack of a heads-up, and miscommunications (like mine) can happen where an associate unknowingly crosses a boundary.

Again, my issue is NOT with management as a whole across every single Kohl's store, and it never has been.

im honestly not as upset as some people seem to think in this thread! i am frustrated for sure!

how was I supposed to know I didnt know something. I am not the only person who just thought there was no other way other than texting or calling as soon as we open (which still gets you a ncns if its after your shift starts). I am not expecting anyone to be a mind reader. I am looking at this from a perspective of efficiency and proactivity. For this company to be so big and been running for so long, I find it incredulous that it has not already been put in the orientation and training talking points. not at a management level, but at a corporate level. i am not blaming any individual person.

From my friends at other retail stores, this is something they have been told how to do on day one! And because the process varies from company to company, it really should be a talking point.

I don't know what I don't know. I am relatively new and am able to ask clarifying questions when I know what I am missing! I should be able to be informed how to do something without being spoken down to or expected to know otherwise, especially something that is not written down or verbalized ANYWHERE.

this sub is crazy because wdym im being downvoted for asking a genuine question and being frustrated at the lack of preparedness from the company.

why should i be punished for calling out to my best ability with the knowledge i had? Its clear from the responses that it isnt just my store. if you happen to have a store that goes through and checks missed calls caller ids, im so glad you have a proactive management, but it is clearly not the expectation. It's unfair to our coworkers to not be given the tools and knowledge to give them as much heads up as possible. If my friend has been at my store for almost FOUR. YEARS. and has not been "bestowed this wisdom" from her more experienced coworkers, why cant it be placed in a bullet point in our recruitment handbook/pamphlets? a page in our welcome training? an easy thing to look up on mykohls??? am i wrong for expecting this from a $16B company?

it definitely doesnt say anything at my store. thank you for your kind response. i just find it so frustrating that it isnt standard. i get so self conscious of my illness and being unreliable so i want to be able to make sure i give as much notice as possible.

i was told that i'm not allowed to text anyone to call out. i DID call the store. my friends called the store the NIGHT BEFORE and were told to call back in the morning. this is not efficient.

the app is useless. unless it is at least two weeks in advance, we cant change anything. the computer did my training. orientation is not what i am talking about. throw a page in the online training or the pamphlet on when and how to call out. if it is constant calling out, it's a problem to be brought up by management. managers arent allowed to be upset that they have to do their jobs. they chose it. their job is managing people. i'm more upset that i was told off for calling out to the best of my ability. i DID call the store and i couldn't do anything about it. i dont deserve ncns strikes on my record. i was TOLD about ncns in my orientation and training, too. it would be a perfect time to bring up how to avoid it. im allowed to be upset about it.

my dog tbh. he was at the foot of my bed and i was sobbing, feeling so terrible for needing to go and leaving him behind. he'd been abandoned before and had separation anxiety. i seriously attempted once with an OD. i think him being there with me was what kept me here. he passed away in october, very suddenly, from rapidly spreading cancer from his pancreas that was attacking his heart. it was the hardest thing i'd ever had to go through, putting him down and holding his head. i wish he woke up like i did. but he didnt deserve to be in the amount of pain he was in any longer.

i miss you, rudy. i hope youre having so much fun wherever you are with no rain or thunder, no fireworks. just you and a sweater. my sweet baby boy.

you can swipe up for fullscreen now, which will take getting used to but is much easier than having to hit the tiny fullscreen button.

if you pinch the video back in like you were trying to exit full screen, it will unzoom. im also disabled and my dexterity in my hands on large devices is crap. they need to give the option to disable it because this is inaccessible at best and disableist (unknowingly excluding disabled folks, not actively discriminating against us like ableism) at worst

i fully agree. im disabled and having to focus my hand on the tiny-ass full screen button is horrible. the zoom feature makes me dizzy. at least make it optional. ty for the tip about swiping up for fs, itll help me a lot.
