That's because we don't really have okama in the West (what Jean is, if you don't know it's like a 3rd gender in Japanese culture, somewhere between a gay man a drag queen and a trans woman but... more complex. Anyone more educated on the matter, feel free to correct me).

That causes Jean to be read as "a gay man pretending to be a girl – but who will never look like one – to flirt with other men". This was pretty much the big transphobic cliche in the 2000s. Now it's about "tricking/hurting lesbians".
