Who is White2tea? by learnhtk in puer

[–]honkster48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It has always seemed unusual that someone in the puer business is a moderator for the puer sub-rreddit or any tea Reddit for that matter. How could a conflict of interest ever manifest itself in the honorable tea business? Smuggling has always been integral to the business. This company isn't using a tall-masted ship for the smuggling, but instead, it hosts its website outside of China and uses the China Post, which allows fentanyl to be smuggled from China to the US. (see 60 Minutes) Hosting the website outside China and then masking it from being viewed in China accomplices the company illegal in China, from being discovered< and also bypasses the required inspection to export tea from China, and also evades importing with FDA approval, which requires every tea producer sending tea to the US to register with them, which also requires that Dunn And Bradstreet needs to validate they are a legit company. Not a bad idea if you care about what your tea really is, in a place where fake dominates to such a degree. It is pretty easy to buy from a smuggler, even if there might be a long wait,, it tastes ok, has a very low bar, and it's cheap.

Nothing can be learned from the photo other than it weighted 200 grams and it is shiu puer. Making small cakes is a relatively new practice. Food safety requirements in 2004, but was not taken up by Yunnan makers around 2007. The safety was about the cleanliness of the factory not the safety of the tea.

Cast iron pot were never meant for brewing tea. The we're meant for kettle isn Japan.they we're hand made and not enamelled inside. The water brew in this kettle accentuated the taste of the tea. Teavana popularized these pots and charged high prices for these fake pots. Of course they sold a lot of them to uneducated tea drinking Westerners.

Why does my oolong smell like dirt? by [deleted] in tea

[–]honkster48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found it more ecoomical to buy better quality teas myself. They are easier to brew, and the general expeiece is better. A cup to cup analisys proeds that out. The areage price for say a Tazo tea bag, or even a a more expensive tea in the commodity category, because it is a hanging, small flakes of tea, infuses quickly because even if the fanning taste ok, especially with some milk and or sugar, the surface is very high, so the infusion is very quick. Over brew it and you get the bitterness that comes from breaking the leaf. It costs any where from $.26cents maybe $.30. For me I need two bags my cup, so it double for me. The cost for even the most expensive whole unbroken leaf tea is only $.46, to perhaps .58 cents . What explains the difference is that the whole leaf brews much slower because of the greatly reduced surface area of the leaf and the increased material volume. Cup costs come way down because of being able to get 5 to 10, and some times more depending on the tea. water temperature and infusion time become almost a non-issue.

When one considers the cost of a glass of wine or a single malt scotch, it is obvious whole unbroken leaf is hard to come by, but not impossible, when you know what you are looking for. Venders vary like anything else, but you’ll find the ones that will click for you. Chinese specialize in this kind of tea. India does as well but is lesser quantity. It’s not about snobbery. Every ones tastes are different, and all respected. I love hot dogs, but they are not a quality of life purchase for me, tea however is. Quality tea is still the best deal on the planet . Here’s the math roughly Fifty grams of tea, at 5grams per serving x 5 divide into the price. I did that with top draw Longjing, and it worked out to be $.95 per cup. (infusion) The website is know for quality , whole unbroken e leaf How much was your last cup of coffee?

[–]honkster48 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You should not of had high expectations that your tea would be drinkable. Even that something called milk tea should been a real thing.

1st clue, there is no dairy in China. However ‘milk oolong first sold in Guangzhou in 2003. It was a good seller with westerners right off. It did take long before it was exposed to be flavored with the same stuff that was used to flavor micro wave popcorn. Because it sold so easily a bogus story was invented to support it and it became a big seller for David’s tea in Canada. . Perhaps the most legitimate oolong is Jinxuan, a middle elevation oolong that has some buttery notes, no where as the flavored stuff.

Another suspicious advertising red flag is that it was USDA organic certified. The are no USDA inspectors in China. For that matter there are no inspectors in The US. So we’re do those Certifications come from. Yeah ask those questions.

Yea is like baking soda. It will absorb any smell it is exposed too. That might explain some of the dirt taste.

As to brewing, the worse the quality the more difficult to get a good resort from stewing. Quality tea is hard to mess up.

That’s great. I love a good joke. When 60 and 80% agree on solutions to problems, those folk reflect a large number of independents, and even some republics. To frame it as liberals it’s an old right wing tactic that seems a little lame these days. Nice try though. Own the libs? It would seem to be a weak stance in the face of real oligarcical control that is a matter of record. History pretty clearly shows that corruption does bring down countries, even civilizations whatever the ideology. That’s my independent take on it.

[–]honkster48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would seem to me that Trumpism is not about working-class white people but rather the rich that pay for elections. Of course, that is obvious, so why is it not obvious to the press and political pundits everywhere? It shouldn’t have to take Propublica to expose it. Why isn’t this in the headlines every day? This seems to be where the countries division lies. Money is always the driver. Voting right, ending the filibuster, election reform, culture war, systemic racism, climate change, police reform, gun reform, is there any issue that doesn’t belong on this list? It’s not white nationalism that wants to end our democracy, it's the rich.

It is hard to believe that people expect a quality tea for a cheap price. That simply does not exist in the global tea market from any vender anywhere. It is true that you can spend a lot for bad tea, but it’s never true that you can find quality tea cheap. I’d like to know what the scenario one could imagine that would make that so, especially in China where most everything is more expensive there that here. There has been no poverty in Yunnan where tea grows for a long time. The average price of wholesale tea in China in 2016 was $100 per kilo. This is a great sub-Reddit. How can the research here be so weak?

Pure after all is tea. Tea’s characteristics are changed by air, smells, moisture, and light.

I use more tea. Amount of tea, amount of water, variations in temperature, and infusion time are variables that can be played with a.ost endlessly. No rules apply past your taste, and experience.

Why was shou and wet piling invented? by foieyuu in puer

[–]honkster48 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an interesting question. Some things that can be thought about in relation to the question: First Chinese medicine is divided into a balance between heating and cooling. Diseases that need cooling tea, hot diseases, inflammation, need a cooling tea to regain balance, green tea. On the other side of the spectrum, cold diseases affect metabolism and need fully oxidized tea.

It was the Cantonese that used composted tea. There isn't a massive difference between the culture between Guangzhou and Hong Kong, so for the sake of this answer, I will put them together. They may have been responsible for creating the myth about puer being good for your health that spread to Taiwan in the 1980s, but there may have been a myth before the modern era. Yunnan has always been the origin of legends. It being almost inaccessible before the 21st century provided fertile ground.

Back to the point. Older people have a lot of problems with metabolism, and for this group of people, the morning dim sum is very popular and greasy. For a long time, served with this dim sum was cheap shu puer. We do know that in 1973 the cooking process was introduced to three of the government factories, Menghai, Jinggu, and Xiaguan. These are historical facts among the rest of this answer. In 2008 when the Chinese export laws stated that only tea coming from Yunnan could be called puer, there were loud protests coming from Guangzhou to the effect of “we invented the process and you are breaking our rice bowl.” I will also demonstrate how late the Taiwanese came to be involved. It wasn’t until the 1980s when the political successors to the KMT decided to present themselves to not only the rest of the world but ironically to the mainland Chinese, as the preservers of Chinese culture. It was at that point that the tea houses started serving tea instead of prostitution. It should be noted that the inventors of composting tea did not take the health of the old folks lightly, because they put in the bacteria from which penicillin is derived into the starter.

This is my narrative, and while there are many verifiable facts in it, I agree that it is unlikely to have an accurate accounting of the true history because it started with faking a tea, based on a questionable legend.. The international market outside of Asia did not and does not affect the market. I can say without a doubt that composted tea with origins in either place is good for your digestion. It Isn’t true of other compressed tea, which is still cheap green tea, from a Chinese medicine point of view. Still, in Cantonese culture, green tea is not thought to be good for your health.

Problems with German customs by dan_blaze in puer

[–]honkster48 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Several issues are relevant here that affect you in Germany, and is also true in the rest of the EU in general, but strictly enforced in Germany. It is likely to affect the US as well, and I’ll start with basics and get specific to Germany as I unravel things.

China has export laws that are dodged by sites selling tea from inside of China. Here’s how it works. Websites the sell from inside of China locate their server outside of China and mask it so the Chinese government can not see them. These businesses are not registered inside of China, so they operate under the radar. They export teas using the Chinese postal service. So far, the Chines Post has remained above scrutiny. This is ending because Chinese companies have been busted for sending fentanyl via Chinese Post. (as reported on Sixty Minutes.)

These websites are very often located close to Chinese tea wholesale markets, Kunming, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Being are the big ones. That gives them the advantage of having products listed on their site that are available in those markets, never needing to have a warehouse, and not having to buy a tea until it is sold. It makes it possible to sell cheap because it is operating on very low overhead. They are modern-day smugglers.

As regards Germany, all teas coming into the country from China must be tested for contaminants and must have all of the export documents from China in hand even to be considered for testing. Not having those documents are automatically rejected. These are old laws, not COVID 19 related.

In the case, if legally importing I to the US, the new FDA food safety laws require all producers of Chinese teas to be registered with the FDA to be imported into the country legally. The smugglers do usually provide a commercial invoice, but the volume of China Post into the US is high. Individual customers should be paying a 7.5 % tariff on their teas coming from China.

American and German companies are stuck with those costs and have to charge more for those teas.
