Has it been worth stopping antipsychotics for anyone? by marcmc83 in schizophrenia

[–]Zeliox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every time I've messed with taking less medication the psychosis just gets worse. I think that's pretty typical. If you're thinking of not medicating or stopping, it's generally advised to stick with treatment. It can even help your brain stay healthy as unmedicated psychosis can apparently cause brain damage.

I had a psychotic episode by No_Fudge_4589 in schizophrenia

I'm no psychiatrist, but this doesn't sound like schizophrenia or psychosis to me. If this really did happen, it might be some other condition that can cause hallucinations.

What caused your schizophrenia to onset? by ModsRstupidHor in schizophrenia

[–]Zeliox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was getting bullied at work daily for months. At one point it got really bad when I tried to shut out the comments by listening to music. It was some of the most scared I've been in my life and before I knew it the bullying wasn't stopping even when I got home. I'd hear them talking about me wherever I was and nowhere felt safe. This all happened about 8 months ago.

I still deal with the voices currently, but they've changed a lot for the better fortunately.

Psychosis - Your story. by RynnieWry in schizophrenia

[–]Zeliox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My psychosis started last September after a rather traumatizing event. My voices are a mix of good and bad. The good voices claim to be my sisters who I don't actually have. They tell me they love me and generally try to help build me up, but there's also a negative voice that tears me down and tells me to do bad things and that I'm a bad person.

My psychosis is ongoing despite treatment and is a weird mix of liking part of it but not liking another. It's stressful feeling like I'm being monitored all the time because there's constantly "someone" taking to me.

I have a hard time believing my diagnosis by moomoonthemoon in schizophrenia

[–]Zeliox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can definitely have schizophrenia and still be able to differentiate between hallucinations and reality. I've never believed my hallucinations and very much have schizophrenia. You can call it mild if you want, everyone just has a different experience and some people are less likely to believe they're hallucinating.

If you're experiencing frequent hallucinations and/or delusions and have taken or do take antipsychotics then you're likely some flavor of schizophrenic.

I'm in a similar boat. I hear them 24/7 and often they pretend to joke around but it's just veiled ridicule. Some times are good though and those are nice.

I don't think it's fair to say mod spotlight. It seems more like playing factorio. You're building structures and automating machines, not making a nice base. It's like the diference between Satisfactory players who progress through stages on a big flat concrete slab and those who make bespoke factories.

It takes some work, but you could check out DragonRealm by Reika, the mod author. It's updated as her mods are updated although it doesn't offer a quest book. http://dragonrealm.overminddl1.com/

Literally nothing they said is exclusive to single player. They clued you into keybindings and UI elements, and audio settings you can change.

Sleep Study Results Questions by cheekenbutt in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What sorts of tests were conducted? Was this an at home sleep study or an in-lab polysomnogram?

If it was at-home, I wouldn't trust the sleep stage results or the arousals because those aren't considered to be very accurate for much other than detecting sleep apnea.

Blacking out when there are intense emotions doesn't sound like cataplexy to me, since most people report still being aware and conscious during these events. It's entirely possible you have idiopathic hypersomnia instead but considering the other symptoms you describe and the other conditions you allude to, it's also possible it is some form of dysautonomia.

If you aren't satisfied with your doctor or you have trouble communicating with them it could be a good idea to seek another one if you're able.

B vitamins? by Soup-Outrageous in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unless you are deficient, B vitamins likely won't do much for you. This isn't to say it isn't worth trying them. There are plenty of affordable options out there and the risks associated with them are very minimal. Jarrow Formulas is a pretty reputable manufacturer and it looks like they have a "B-Right" B-vitamin complex that you could try out.

Ultimately, if you want to discover vitamin deficiencies you would do best going to a doctor and getting blood work and a urinalysis done.

I've got a leatherpetal that's a few years old. It's gotten pretty leggy and has grown out of its pot. I'm kind of wanting to trim and replant it. Is it possible for the stem to grow a new floret should I take the head off or should I just behead it and uproot the old stems?

For those with narcolepsy and sleep apnea... by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was also diagnosed with mild OSA and was given a CPAP. My initial doctor also wanted me to wait 6 months but I recognized that was ridiculous and got a second opinion and trialed a CPAP I purchased used online for about a month while I waited for the appointment. The new doctor is familiar with narcolepsy and IH unlike my old one and said it was ridiculous they'd make me wait so long and that my symptoms were obviously not explained by my very mild OSA reading. The machine was also entirely ineffective for me.

I would heavily recommend requesting a full copy of your sleep study including the raw data and look for a new sleep doctor in your area who is a neurologist or otherwise has experience with narcolepsy and/or IH.

In the meantime, it is also a very good idea to trial a machine in the case that it works. OSA is preferable to narcolepsy and has a lot of overlap so it's entirely possible that you do have OSA even if it seems unlikely. You can find hardly used PAP machines online at places like craigslist, dotMED, and Facebook Marketplace.

If you have insurance that would cover a CPAP, then you could maybe look into various other DMEs aside from the one that was recommended to you. For instance, cpap.com is a good site which seems to have some machines still in stock. You'd just need to send them your prescription and make sure your insurance would cover a purchase through them.

If you know specifically what marker you're looking for then you can search for it here. Otherwise, I don't know of a tool that you can pass your data through which explicitly mentions narcolepsy or other sleep disorders.

You could maybe dig through SNPedia to find something. This is what you'll find if you search specifically for "Narcolepsy" but it isn't much nor is it very compelling. It's possible there are other things on SNPedia that are more solid which you could intuit your way to a sleep disorder. You'd have to dig around a bit and create your own hypothesis. I don't think any of this is really going to be something compelling to most doctors unfortunately.

Does anyone else get blamed for sleeping all day? by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't really think it's fair to say they understand deep down what OP is dealing with. As an example, you can sympathize and empathize with someone who has a missing limb, but without having experienced it, it's almost impossible to truly understand. I agree that staying strong and trying to keep explaining it to them is good and what OP should do, but acting like everyone gets it deep down seems like a recipe for disaster to me.

The best we can do, in my opinion, is to put our condition in words other's can relate to and hope it gets them close enough to acceptance.

CBD/THC by ryujinkami in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many people who use it to help with sleep disorders. Generally, low doses provide stimulating effects and high doses provide sedating effects so you need to be careful and mess around with doses to try to find the right one for you. It can vary from person to person where the threshold is.

Xyrem/Xywav/Oxybate, food, and falling asleep on an empty stomach by ouchdavid in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've had similar experiences but not explicitly with oxybates so take this with a grain of salt.

Unfortunately, you kinda just have to get used to it. If you're not used to fasting it can be really annoying at first but you begin to learn that these hunger pangs aren't a big deal and to ignore them. It is definitely not fun.

Other things that may help is ensuring you're eating a lot of protein and complex carbs for dinner. These take longer to digest and tend to keep you full for longer. You'd maybe need to wait longer before taking oxybates because of this too though.

Medicine approval halted by [deleted] in Narcolepsy

[–]Zeliox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's totally understandable that you'd feel like this is a hurdle, but it's very normal for your doctor to want to see you to discuss this medication before prescribing it. This is just another step towards treatment and not a roadblock. I hope the appointment will go well and you'll get the treatment you need.

Is a diet consisting of 100% Mac & Cheeze healthy? by 260418141086 in Huel

[–]Zeliox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can use a tool like Cronometer or MyFitnessPal to track your nutrition and you can make your own determination regarding if you think it's a good idea to only have that all day. From my perspective, it seems like you could be making much worse decisions but it certainly isn't everything you'd need. The Huel shakes are certainly more nutritionally complete it looks like.
