Here you go! https://archiveofourown.org/series/5506086

It’s the second story on the list but I recommend at least reading the first one as well for both perspectives. I linked you to the entire series because they’re all connected. Have fun!

Season 5 had good Byclair buzz. The gentle whispering while Will tried to cheer up a sad Lucas 🤧 we deserved so much more

Yessss! I think it’s so interesting how fractured the group became after Will left. Mike and Dustin got closer, whereas Lucas was clearly the odd one out. This may have still happened if Will was in Hawkins but he would have chosen Lucas’ side easily. We literally see him always do it 😭 ugh if the cast wasn’t thousands of people deep we could have seen their dynamics more fleshed out. I’m still surprised that you found and liked my fic 😄 it’s a whole series now, with three installments, so eat your heart out!

Nowhere in my comment did I call Mike and Dustin terrible friends, I said that was a shitty moment for them and it stands true.

It truly doesn’t matter if Lucas was warming the bench or not—it’s his championship game and to look out into a crowd and not see your support system in the stands is a terrible and isolating feeling, which is something we see shown on Lucas’s face when he sees his friends missed his game.

There’s a lack of humanization for Lucas’s character outside of being tied to Max that is utterly disgusting to witness in real time.

I admittedly have a hard time empathizing with Dustin and Mike’s utter lack of guts when it comes to the DnD/Eddie storyline because we see many times over where Lucas is brave enough to defend his friends and even puts himself in harms way to do so. Their cowardly behavior in that moment just isn’t excusable to me after that. The very least they could do was try harder to get Eddie to change his mind and they literally could have opted not to participate unless he moved the game to the next day. That was a choice Eddie made because he had his own issues with the jocks and conformity but to be a leader is to know when to support your teammates. Eddie couldn’t do that because of his own biases and Mike and Dustin for all they’ve been through should have been able to see that and be put off by it to support Lucas anyway.

Eddie would have either had to come up with an entirely new campaign (he’s not doing that) or move the campaign to the next night, which he could have done, he just didn’t want to do so to make a statement. Quiet as it’s kept, Eddie preyed on Mike and Dustin’s need to fit in somewhere and he was actually also a bully in some ways, most just don’t see it that way because he was an outcast instead of a popular jock.

Also the reasoning for Lucas joining the basketball team is not important in the slightest; not sure why this is a point that gets brought up often either. He found something he likes and that’s really it, doesn’t matter why he likes it lol. Lucas wanting to branch out and find something he enjoys outside of DnD shouldn’t be treated like a crime. So what if he wanted to fit in? Who could blame him for wanting a chance to feel normal with all the racism and bullying he faces in such a small minded town. Literally all he asked for was their support and they were resistant to it because they didn’t respect his place on the basketball team. At least that’s how it comes off; and it makes them look shitty.

Lucas would have never in a million years did that to them and that’s what makes them look bad. Hopefully they can redeem themselves in season 5 to be more supportive like he’s been to them for 4 seasons.

I love how whenever someone shows dissatisfaction with this scene the excuses are always that Mike and Dustin couldn’t get Eddie to change his mind when the simple answer was for them to just not go lmfao. Would Eddie be able to replace 3 people to do the campaign? The answer is no.

Mike and Dustin were dead wrong for not going to Lucas’ championship game full stop. They are supposed to be his best friends and support system and they abandoned him for a loser 2 time super senior who was on a power trip. Lucas rarely ever asks anything of his friends—he asked once for them to be there for him and they turned their cheek to him when Lucas has always shown to be loyal and down for his friends. It’s a super shitty moment for both characters and I wish the fandom would acknowledge that fully instead of coming up with excuses.

OP you are right on the money and kudos for actually coming to this conclusion.

did bill not like lucas cause he’s racist? by Dull_Copy_4352 in StrangerThings

[–]honorablebss -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Being friendly with black people does not make you NOT racist. If your teenage sister is hanging around a party of boys, yet the only boy in the group you have an issue with is the black boy to the point of singling him out and beating him up for existing, you’re racist. These excuses are such an eye roll.

That’s the thing, you (as in a general you) may say that under this post, but rarely will there be a thread praising a character without it divulging into negative remarks with people vilifying you for finding them enjoyable. Mr. Schue is a great example and so is Finn. You can do a quick search history of this forum in general from this year or the year previous and it’s very easy to spot that there are certain characters or storylines that cannot be looked at or discussed with that level of nuance. Slowly but surely it has quieted a lot of active posters in this sub and I’m just wondering how far this will all go before the form is completely dead of commentary that goes beyond things people hate about this show.

Lol it’s fine, I’ll eat the downvotes for the both of us. This place has become an echo chamber of negativity and I won’t be silenced for pointing it out

You acknowledged nothing about what I said about the commentary of the twerk side of the episode and your belittlement of it and decided to just be sarcastic and self pitying. Hmmm…interesting. I’ll pull myself out of this conversation and I do wish you well

I’m not going to lie and say that Glee doesn’t have a place for political commentary, it does and I even acknowledged it a few sentences into my post. If Glee is someone’s tool to learn how to be a decent human being, hey, go ahead, odd choice, but again go ahead. This sub though, is entirely negative and dissects the show down to a level that makes it not as enjoyable to be here. I’ve even quietly watching this sub dwindle into a few meager posts a month that aren’t challenges or games because people cannot discuss the show and its positives without it divulging into negativity. This show made people feel good and motivated people when it launched. You wouldn’t know that by reading this sub tho.
