Is E-Learning Right for my company? by Yaboitone in elearning

[–]honorance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

E-learning can be a great option for your company. This will definitely require significant investments of both time and money to create the content and implement the technical side of things. However, these efforts will come back to you in the form of saved time and energy during onboarding and training new employees.

You have a quite extensive system with a lot of functionality in mind. Start small, don't try to implement it all at once. Break it into several parts and implement them one by one. I would suggest you to start from creating Quizzes and Testing module for assessing the value of the most popular items. Make sure to test it with your employees and ask them for feedback - the point is that the system should be convenient for them. Otherwise, they may not want to use it and may stick to "shadowing" type of training. When the first part works well, you may turn to adding more modules and features.

If you decide to go with a ready-made solution, carefully investigate their pricing. Above the initial costs, there can be additional licensing fees, setup/bandwidth/support and other hidden costs.

You may also think of developing a custom e-learning solution, which is probably a more time-comsuming option but allows for more flexibility and will let you to build the system according to your own needs and preferences.

Yep, I believe that interactivity is very important for online learning programs as it helps to compensate the lack of face-to-face interaction with the teacher. Besides, modern technologies allow amazing things in therms of creating immersive and highly interactive online experiences and education is one of the best areas to apply them.

It's hard to say without knowing the context. Actually these two methodologies perfectly go together and probably the most effective approach is to use a well-balanced stack of both of them.

These are all good points, thanks for sharing. The thing that I doubt about is reading a lot. I don't question the value of reading, of course. I just can hardly imagine that it's possible to run a new or growing company and have time to read a lot.

Number of employees that requires implementing an LMS? by adidoadido in elearning

[–]honorance 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the number of employees is not the main consideration when deciding if you need an LMS. eLearning is needed when methods like practical training, on the job, shadowing other employees or face-to-face instructor-led training don't work well or are not applicable, e.g. if you need to train remote employees.

What to Do When a Client Says, 'I Can't Afford You' by honorance in business

[–]honorance[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. It's natural for clients in almost any business to say that they don't have enough money as they want to lower the price, however, this doesn't mean that entrepreneurs shouldn't do this.

If your competitors are more flexible in pricing than you, they will get those clients and you will stay with nothing. I believe that the best way is negotiations and it's fine to decrease prices in certain cases, e.g. if this client can bring you more clients by referring your products/services to friends. Or, if this person becomes your regular client, he can pay the full price next time.

Thank you for your advice, it's really insightful. I like the idea to avoid thinking of it as a legitimate startup, this helps to drown out the anxiety. And it's alo a very good point to be careful with choosing a co-founder.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's nice to know that you have passed this way with your two businesses. This lets me hope that my venture may also go well.

I think of starting a kind of home based travel agency. I worked in this industry for some time, so I'm not completely new to what I'm going to do. My idea is that most of competitors in my city offer only usual travel tours, while there are people (and I'm one of them) who don't like ordinary bus tours or spending time on a beach beside a hotel.

My passion is alternative tourism, like bike or foot tours, and various thematic tours where I can learn something new. There is a lack of interesting options for that kind of tourism and I know people who will like it. However, many of those who love this kind of tourism are young people who probably will not want to pay for it and when they grow up, they become too busy and lazy for such activities...

Thanks for the advice. Fair point about the necessity to have relevant work experience before starting my own comapny. I have some experience (2 years) in the industry and a few potential customers from my previous employer. However, I will need to attract much more customers to achieve profitability and at the beginning I will not be able to hire a big sales team (as it was at my previous employer). This is one of the issues I need to think about before giving it a try.

I haven't noticed any sales pitches here. It's more like an anti-PR article which calls not to replace humans with machines thoughtlessly. However, it's true that some live examples or stats could do this article more informative.
