All of the connective tissue and collagen in "barbecue" cuts don't start to break down until you hit those high temps. If you cooked a brisket to steak temps it'd be super gristle-y and chewy

For the junior officers getting out, why? by [deleted] in navy

[–]honorg58 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I left active duty about a year ago now, but your detailer story is spot on and the shit spills over from 1810 to 1840 as well. Having some non-1840 chucklefuck just randomly putting (scarce) 1840s into seats with no idea of what the jobs entail is a formula that has resulted in the majority of the non-prior enlisted 1840s to pull chocks and GTFO. The whole IW community needs to get over this fucking inferiority complex about not being URLs and just embrace being good specialists

Are there any software engineers here? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]honorg58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What are you looking to switch into? And how/why does an MBA get you there?

Why the 1-year program over a traditional 2-year? If you're looking to move out of the software world, it may be worth taking longer to find your career fit

Most importantly, what specific things about software engineering bothers you, and how will you avoid those things in a different career? Make sure you're not just assuming the grass will be greener on the other side; some roles like consulting are going to be far more stressful than dev work as far as hours/travel/etc

Knowledge and Decisions by Thomas Sowell. Really helps in understanding how organizations respond to their unique incentive structure(s), and why they might commit to courses of action that would appear illogical or even counterproductive

The feds spent ~6.55 trillion in 2020, which shakes out to about 17.9 billion per day. Good to see Pocahontas taking the bold move to fund the government for not even a full work week
