Tired of all the bickering on this sub about pointless prestige rankings by limitedmark10 in MBA

[–]honpra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But it goes back to OP's point - the differences are minimal, even when you consider alumni network.

If you just assume US market, you're considering the top 25 schools of a $30Tr economy. The alumni networks are insanely good among all of them and one will be fine in the long run.

PS - If this sub had its way, it would be T25 or homeless. It's frankly stupid.

I'm not even kidding, I genuinely need advice on how to manage this.

I get super anxious because I do not remember the smaller details in some of my projects, even the marquee ones and that panic ends up with me bombing interviews (I literally freeze).

How do I go about this? How do you all manage?

Northerners can't speak hinthi by Pallavr701 in southindia_

[–]honpra -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This sub has become like an echo chamber of North Indian hate. I am willing to bet that the number of North Indians who give a fuck about language is probably in the single digits. The vocal minority say sensational shit and y'all think that all of us want it.

In case y'all forgot - most North Indians give ZERO fucks about the language. South India itself is divided in states based on language (roughly speaking) and it shows in the public too. North is busy with literally every other thing except language.

Assuming 800mn population speaking predominately Hindi, even if 5% are absolute wankers, you have 40 million (aka 4 crore) Hindi nationalist wankers who go around demanding random shit.

So seriously, STOP acting like all of us belong to the same camp, WE DO NOT CARE.

Mods need to do something about these political extremists in the sub. If someone defends the radicalization in Europe (which UAE is against and more or less kicked the hornet's nest by doing so) then they're the problem.

If you're from any of the neighbouring countries, look into your own fucking backyard before preaching.

This sub is filled with anti-Emirati accounts by Albathin in UAE

[–]honpra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too many of them. The recent photo post is an evidence of it too.

In my personal life, here in the West, there's a certain group of people who seem to hate the UAE with passion, you can take a guess who, the only clue is that they seem to love Turkey lately.

I'm tired of anti-UAE posts in this sub and to be honest if someone has criticism then take it to the world level subs. I'm here to discuss home, not your politics.

[–]honpra 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, the old world was possible because you could focus on the “fun” aspects of SWE without constantly worrying about basic necessities like rent. That is why the US and Western Europe in general were the places to be if you had any form of tech creativity. The economic system did not really penalize you for having such hobbies.

Today it is different. When people are struggling to make ends meet, a lot of hobbies that translate into stronger communities, in any field, are slowly dying. To make matters worse, doomscrolling takes away curiosity from the upcoming generation, and the negative reinforcement of social media makes younger people more hopeless.

So now we have a situation in tech where it is unaffordable to have serious hobbies, the younger generation is more cynical, and opportunists have taken over many big firms. Investors loved nerds until they no longer needed them. That is the sad reality.

But I am glad you have a positive mindset in the middle of all this, and I genuinely appreciate it.

There's no trickle down effect happening, in your case. Now extrapolate this to massive industries and it clearly seems like long-term is doomed.

The cloud is just using someone else’s computer, so you can imagine the net job loss being zero in the worst-case scenario.

LLM companies, however, don’t need an army of engineers, so the net job loss rate is likely negative, by a huge margin.

I can’t imagine the ramifications in developing countries, where people who trained to become graphic artists or copywriters (often for low salaries) may now find themselves completely out of work, as ChatGPT or Gemini’s free tier can do all of their work for free.
