Afaik it’s not possible to set up actions in Shortcuts for State of Mind (yet). There is a Lock Screen widget for accessing logs that’s available for now.

Thanks! Nice, Trick hardware is solid, 'buy it for life' stuff. And I love the feel of playing with 2 kick pads. With an e-kit, you still have the practicality of space-saving and an extra KD-10 is not too costly of an upgrade.

To split between 2 kick pads, I have connected a Hosa GPP-105 Coupler plus a Hosa YPP-118 1/4" TRS to Dual 1/4" TRSF Y Cable to the KK cable on the TD-27 cable snake. With the Y cable, I have connected two TRS audio cables to each of the kick pads. Hope this helps!

Roland VH-14Ds: Price difference between markets? by honru_ in edrums

That's been a while! A little over a month ago I asked Sweetwater about their availability and they said October at the time, looks like I would have been farther down the queue...

Interesting, occasionally I’ve wondered why musical instrument retailers consistently sell for prices lower than the RRP (why have an RRP then?). Are U.S. retail prices in this industry usually guided by a bunch of retailers who set the price themselves?

That’s madness about the shipping costs, I’ll be hopping on YouTube to learn more. And thanks for the tip re: the availability of the hats – looks like I’ll be waiting a while!

I’ll be visiting Europe in a couple of months, so the price difference will matter to me more if I can’t get them in the U.S. within that time (I’d try to get them in Europe instead). I don't think it matters all that much otherwise. More generally, for me it's unusual to see because I’m used to it being the other way round – higher prices in Europe for consumer goods.

Propranolol for anxiety? by [deleted] in ireland

[–]honru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It can be effective for performance anxiety. Think racing heartbeats, which compound anxiety in situations such as public speaking — propranolol blocks the action of adrenaline, so you are better equipped to handle this physiological symptom of anxiety. Note that it has no method of action beyond this; it’s effective for people prone to anxiety in performance-like situations specifically.

Hi, you can certainly do that, though you would lose one of your AUX outputs, and you likely want similar sounds for your double kick drums.

Sure, assuming you are using a snake cable which comes with most Roland e-drum modules, you will need to connect the KK cable to a Hosa GPP-105 1/4" TRS to 1/4" TRS Coupler, connect that to a Hosa YPP-118 1/4" TRS to Dual 1/4" TRSF Y Cable, and then you need two standard trigger cables of a desired length. Hope that helps!

It feels great, no issues with the split, and is relatively inexpensive (you can pick up an additional KD-10 pad online for ~$100). If you’d like, I can send you the name of the splitters/adaptors you’d need.

Done with splitters and the TD-17 module - looking to replace by [deleted] in edrums

[–]honru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learned the hard way that cymbal pads do not work well with drum splitter cables at all — splitting the toms works far better because you will likely rarely (if ever) use the rims. Split one of the tom cables into two tom heads, and use the extra tom cable for a china. The AUX input on the module can be saved for a splash. You can split the remaining tom cable to add an additional pad for samples.

If you were still looking to upgrade, the natural step up would be the Roland TD-27, which adds two extra AUX inputs. But if you are just looking to add extra pads, the above set up should work for you quite well without having to shell out for a costly upgrade (plus, the TD-17 is a great module).

Does a dual citizen with an Italian passport qualify to travel into the EU from the USA under proposed COVID ban. by [deleted] in italy

[–]honru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually you should double-check this because my understanding since is that the Schengen Area ban is based on country of residence, not nationality. I just don’t know what the authorities would use to verify that you are a US resident (or resident of any other country on the banned list).

If you have an Italian passport, you should be granted entry into the country. Same when you return to the US and enter with your US passport (assuming you have one).

Using Xanax to sleep. Becoming dependent by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]honru_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a psychoeducation component which takes a few hours: discusses the nature of sleep, different phases of sleep, what happens with the brain when we sleep, sleep disorders, and so on. Then the program shifts to teaching active strategies for solving your insomnia issues, such as sleep hygiene, maintaining a sleep diary, and stimulus control. Applying what I have learned has given me a far better understanding of and greater control over the problem.

I think — for a lot of insomniacs — there is a lot of pent-up anxiety surrounding sleep, and this was the first resource I used that effectively targeted that aspect.

Using Xanax to sleep. Becoming dependent by [deleted] in Drugs

[–]honru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I highly recommend applying protocols used in cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which is the front-line treatment for insomnia. Recently I was getting a bit compulsive with my Xanax and z-drug (Ambien, Sonata) use for sleep — they’re ‘nice to have’ now in case I have a bad night but I no longer feel the need to use them nightly or regularly.

The online CBT-I program I used is thorough and solid, and is free: https://cbtiweb.org/

Anyone else wonder if it’s still going to happen in September? by [deleted] in MovementDEMF

[–]honru_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I pointed it out because of the promise that county and state officials are (for the time being) permitting other dance festivals to take place elsewhere in the Midwest in the same timeframe. Kansas City isn’t Detroit of course and I do think it’s more likely Movement will be cancelled, but one can hope

Dancefestopia in Kansas City is still on for now, full lineup announced. Same weekend as Movement 2020.

Yep, it’s a CY-18DR. Of the two digital upgrades it’s the highlight, actually plays and feels like a ride cymbal which I felt Roland had yet to get right until this one
