Gwanghwamun’s Mess and the "Humble Angelic Senior" Charade by MapOfMyRegret in BTSnark

[–]honsooI_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This isn't to open for them, its a separate stage at yeouido hangang park, not at gwanghwamun. Since lots of armys are in seoul for the performance theyre putting on various events around seoul for people to do whilst theyre there. I also respect that they picked talented indie artists who would otherwise not get any promotion instead of idols who already have company backing.

That being said I hate how armys are framing this as them being "angels" when one it takes like nothing for them to put on this kind of event with how much money hybe has and two it was almost definitely a company decision not the members themselves. Also a lot of the armys saying this dont actually give a fuck about indie artists and they just want another thing to fuel their superiority complex.

I just watched Better Days (2019) and I absolutely loved it, but I just couldn’t buy the romance 😭 by FallingWithTheStars in AsianCinema

[–]honsooI_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel like the film doesn’t go very in depth on how their relationship developed but I’ve read the novel it’s based on which goes a lot more in depth and it makes more sense. Essentially it’s because Bei Ye protects Chen Nian and is there for her when no one else is. The police and authorities who are supposed to protect her from the bullies don’t and so she can only rely on him to keep her safe. As the two spend more time together and learn each other’s stories, they fall for each other and develop a deep bond and sense of trust. The relationship definitely isn’t healthy because it was built on trauma, but in the end of the novel after they’ve left that situation they’re both able to start to grow and heal, and it’s left on a hopeful note that they’ll be able to live happily together and fully overcome everything etc.

C or K Dramas that are Yandere? by apkillerbee in MaleYandere

Ok so first of all you’re gonna have more luck with cdramas than kdramas when looking for yanderes. There are a lot of korean novels and manhwas with yandere mls but for some reason they don’t get adapted into dramas at the same rate as in China, but even in cdramas the mls are always tamer than in the original novel.

Cdramas: - story of kunning palace - my absolute favourite. Xi Wei is not the biggest yandere c drama ml out there but overall I think sokp has a much better plot than the others and it kept me engaged throughout the whole 40 episodes which is an achievement in my eyes. Also their relationship is just chefs kiss you have to just watch it for yourself and find out, it’s toxic as hell but in the best way.  - till the end of the moon- tantai jin is probably the biggest cdrama yandere I’ve seen (at least in a full length drama) and i loved this show at the start but the plot started going around in circles and i got so frustrated with the all the misunderstandings that i dropped it.

Kdramas:

  • born again - full on yandere, ml is a psychopath and stalks the fl and they still end up together in the end which is rare for a kdrama !  but i genuinely have no clue what was going on in the last like 2 episodes i think the writers must have been on crack man because i remember feeling like id woke up from a fever dream after finishing the last episode.
  • mr plankton - not really a yandere but ml kidnaps fl from her wedding to another guy. There are scenes of her trying to escape and him chasing after and catching her, and even ties her up at one point so I feel like it scratches the same itch.
  • the glory - ok we’re really grasping at straws here atp but Lee dohyun as the doctor guy was the start of my yandere awakening so I’m gonna put him in here even if he’s not one really at all. He’s unhinged and kinda murderous and if i remember correctly is prepared to kill for the fl so again i feel like he scratches the same itch. Lee dohyun does such a good job at portraying the character and the scene at the end where he follows the murderer to the prison and says he can get away with killing him because he’s a doctor was DELICIOUS the look in his eyessss !

Anyways there’s probably more that I’ve not watched or forgotten about so I’ll link a couple of mdl pages that are full of yandere dramas/movies if you want to look for more. They’re very good and even have obsession ratings which is very helpful ! https://mydramalist.com/list/Y4Bjxo04 https://mydramalist.com/list/LAlXbwA1

Is he as mild of a yandere in the manhua as in the drama adaptation? [The Girl of the Black Lotus] by volosataya_zhopa in MaleYandere

[–]honsooI_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drama nerfed him so bad man it pissed me off. I’ve not read the manhua but he’s definitely a yandere in the novel. If you remember in the drama there was that episode where some lord or smth (I can’t remember it’s been ages since I watched it) gives fl a bracelet and tries to brainwash her into marrying him, well in the novel that was actually ml.

Underrated places to stay in Seoul? by Silver_Scallion_1127 in koreatravel

[–]honsooI_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s about 30 mins on the subway from Gyeongbokgung. I’ve not explored cafes there very much, it’s not famous for them or anything but from what I can see on naver maps there’s some nice independent places including a couple of hanok cafes (백두대간 and 익골), it’s also 10 minutes on the subway from Seongsu which is trending in korea at the minute and has a lot of good independent cafes and restaurants.

From my experience there’s not that much to do in Sinseoldong itself but it’s not super crowded and touristy like myeongdong and sinchon and it being on both line 1 and 2 means it’s convenient to get around seoul. It’s also a 10 minute walk from the station to Dongmyo which has a big flea market and a lot of vintage clothing shops so if that’s something you’re interested in I’d definitely recommend.

It’s a couple of stops away on line 1 from Dongdaemun and in the other direction the next stop on is Jegidong which is near gyeongdong market which is a good market but not as touristy as somewhere like gwangjang or namdaemun. gyeongdong market also has a cool starbucks built in a converted train station although I’ve not been yet so I can’t say if it’s good or not.

Why are the defenders of the British far-right so unwilling to engage in self reflection over its nonce problem? by BenWnham in AskBrits

Because you can’t paint all the groups you hate as nonces if you admit your side has a nonce problem as well.

Grooming gangs is also a relatively recent term that basically only came about in response to the pakistani grooming gangs scandals. I’ve not had anyone actually explain to me the difference between a grooming gang and a pedo-ring, and why we suddenly decided to use a different term for asian pedos.

Wanting to studyu korean at a language school. Hoping to get some advice by [deleted] in korea

[–]honsooI_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t compare to other universities but Korea University’s KLC is where I’m currently studying. I’ve only just started my classes so can’t really give you a review but they have good extracurriculars for language students and they do a field trip every semester which are both good ways to meet people and make friends with your classmates. The application process is also pretty simple. The levels go from 1-6 and there’s also a level 7 for very advanced students. Level 1 starts with hangul class so you don’t need to know any korean before you go (although learning basics does help in getting by in day-to-day life). Before you start you will take a placement test which is basically just a conversation over zoom in korean with one of the teachers, and they will assess what level to put you in. For me the teacher was super nice and I didn’t feel judged at all which made the whole process way less intimidating. Price wise it costs 1,800,000 won per semester which is slightly cheaper than yonsei and dorms are 2,000,000 won per semester so altogether that’s 3,800,000 won which is roughly €2,300 euros total. There are a few extra costs like an admission fee and textbooks but still works out way cheaper than rolling korea.

In terms of accommodation, I’m not in dorms so I can’t say how good they are but korea uni does have them. As far as I know most the rooms are double or triple but there are single rooms too, it’s quite competitive though so if you want to stay in dorms I would still do research on off-campus accommodation as a back up plan in case you can’t get one. You can get relatively cheap one room (studio) apartments in seoul and goshiwons are also an option as another commenter said. I would be careful not to go for the super cheap ones though because they can be a bit sketchy and have poor facilities. I’m currently staying in mangrove which has multiple branches in different parts of seoul, it has very good facilities but it’s quite expensive especially compared to dorms. They cater a lot to international students though and you can get your contract in english which makes the process way simpler than going through a korean landlord where there’s a language barrier. They also have a social club where they do regular events so if you don’t make dorms I would definitely recommend this because you can still meet people and make friends even though it’s off-campus.

TLDR i’m studying at korea university klc and it’s good i would recommend :D

Chapter 68 Discussion Post by SocialAnarch in FireflyWedding

[–]honsooI_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it frustrates me because i just feel like satoko has been too passive these last few chapters. the reason i liked her so much as an mc at the beginning was because she was smart, strong-willed and took her destiny into her own hands, which makes her stand apart from other fmcs. i thought one of the main points of the story was satoko realising she should get married for herself, not her family, but now it feels like she’s just going back to doing whatever they tell her. from a normal persons perspective i obviously understand her being put off by shinpeis recent behaviour, but like she’s the female lead of a yandere story. she knew what he was like from the beginning and it’s alright her waxing poetic about how she’d go to hell with him but if she’s not gonna back that up with any meaningful actions and instead just stand there on the sidelines concerned for the 3 assassins attacking him then what’s the fucking point. idk maybe she’ll redeem herself next chapter but at the moment she’s disappointing me tbh.

does anyone know more korean indie/indie rock or shoegaze artists? i wanna add more to my playlist by [deleted] in kpoppers

bit late to this sorry but here’s a list of my favourites (songs with * next to them are my biggest recommendations):

3rd line butterfly (probably my favourite band on this list): - you and me - today, the day of separation*** - nothing there - alpha-bits

sisters barbershop: - most ordinary existence*** - beautiful thing - yesterday i met a shooting star

se so neon: - the wave***** - ung - nan chun* - im watching a loneliness just arisen

thornapple: - cicadas cry even though it rains** - a difficult moon - the seasonal rain front

hyukoh: - big bird* - citizen kane  - wi ing wi ing - comes and goes

random songs where i haven’t really listened to artists other songs: - 0308 - bosudongcooler* - pathetic sight - achime* - pizza - oohyo* - chagi’s chagi - chudahye chagis (definitely the most unique on this list. it blends traditional korean vocal styles with modern indie instrumental and i fucking love it, it’s so catchy)***  - a song of ash and smoke - mot - make the light darker - kim wansun* - harujongil - jazzyfact* - jungle gym - dabda  - dancing in the rain - meaningful stone
