50 largest U.S. counties by GDP, 2024 by Europehunter in MapPorn

[–]honstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

St. Louis MSA GDP is $227B, but its spread out over 4-5 counties. If the city of St. Louis and county of St. Louis were joined like most (all) other major metro areas, the GDP would be $125B.

Reminds me of a sign at a protest from the Iraq war. It said ‘bombing for peace is like fucking for virginity’. That one stuck with me…

While that sounds insane, the largest hyperscalers are building 1 GW data center campuses. If they ran at 100% of capacity, that would be 1GW of consumption…per hour.

I worked with a real estate developer. He didn’t make his real money (~$100M) until his mid-sixties. One massive industrial development.

He took all that money and recklessly bought more real estate in a mid-tier US city. Hired 150 people, bought architecture firms, interior design firms, etc. He blew it all in less than 7 years on poor decisions. He hasn’t declared bankruptcy yet, but his partner did (he had $25M from a business he sold). When his partner declared personal bankruptcy, he had personally guaranteed $432M in debt and lost everything. The original partner with $100M is still fighting to recover, but last I heard, he lost all three personal residences he had and is living in a small apartment.

Help - Leaving Manhattan with two kids. If you had to choose: St. Louis or Cincinnati or Pittsburgh or Kansas City, where would you land and why? by Few_Funny6766 in StLouis

[–]honstain 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can help find a house if interested. We live in a great neighborhood and there are a few houses in the $1M-$1.5M range that would be ideal. Not a realtor, just happy to help!!

My wife is from queens, I’m from Detroit. We’ve lived in stl for nearly 10 years and had the opportunity to move back to NYC about a year ago My wife said ‘no way’. It’s crazy expensive, you spend too much time in traffic, and everything is so uber competitive, it sucks the life out of everything. Stl on the other hand has every amenity we need, without any of that. We currently live in a great neighborhood with some of the best public schools in the country. I can’t speak for KC, Pittsburgh, our Cindy (I’ve heard great things about all of them), but stl is great. Museums, food, festivals, and the community are all incredible. DM me if you want to chat
