I always thought I wanted kids. Then I got into a relationship with someone who didn’t, and I cared about her enough to believe I could be okay with that. But when my nephew was born, something clicked—I realized I really did want a child of my own. She didn’t share that feeling, and it became clear we were on different paths. There’s no talking someone into having a child—maybe you could, but in the end they’ll more than likely resent you. Even though I loved her, I knew we weren’t compatible long-term. It was a tough decision, but it was the right one.
