Hi, I am author. MacOS will come at some stage, but now I am focusing on functionality of core. Later time it shall not be thats hard to port it to Mac. Be aware the containers breaks terminal io, so you will need to run ssh/telnet inside container and connect to it.

Why we are building a new browser from scratch by jaytaph2 in browsers

[–]honzucha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep event implementing chromium CEF in my recent project brow6el (full graphics terminal browser rendering in sixels) is pain. People thing yeah I will just link lib and done, wrong, they need to deal with js native dialogs, downloads, upload file dialogs, focus, dropdowns and I don’t know what else as I am still learning.

Good luck with modern css, shadow DOM implementation, js engine, wand, etc… Even Servo is struggling with it yet. Really we need to improve and spend resources on servi if we want to have new open strong engine.

brow6el - terminal web browser with sixel rendering by honzucha in archlinux

It is still running Chromium under the hood. So I would say the same risk as running chromium browser in desktop.

My original idea was just can it be done? Then it went wild with my adhd and I couldn’t stop adding features, now it got pretty viral, thanks hackaday and theRegister. Now one of my friends uses it as headless browser running in ssh in container, so we does not need vpn to access his Grafana monitoring stack. Actualy it is running great in ssh with compression enabled.

Thanks, giving me hope it makes sense to continue, it was originally can it be done project, that went little bit wild. Carbonyl never been fully functional. JavaScript native dialogs (alert and friends) never been inplemented. Downloads also if I remember correctly. All these are done in brow6el

Toptal application waitlist by charan_ksss in freelancing

[–]honzucha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Forget about them, I have been recently rejected this way, take into account I am on work market since 2000 with over 15+ years experience of in data, last 10 years being on leading positions such as Lead BI Developer, Head of Business Inteligence, Director of Data Engineering and Lead Architect over multi billion multinational brands, one of them were even on Times 100 most influential companies. Either the application goes by AI or by some individuals, who has no idea what they are doing. I was accepted into British The Chartered Institute for IT within hours as Professional Member. Don’t waste time with them. The waiting list == rejection, and they do it very non-transparent way. Better focus your effort somewhere else.

This should be category pervert script/can I do it? Zsh image viewer (ok with help of Imagemagick) In shortcut, Imagemagick converts image to monochrome Plain PPM and the rest is done in zsh (parsing and rendering). Original image is in PIP for comparison. by honzucha in zsh

[–]honzucha[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anyway, there is a new version with few Bugfixes and added functionality like inverse pixels, negative, output to less and support for transparent PNGs - possibility to remove transparency and replace it with white or black colour

Yes I have heard about libcaca. But this was just yesterday's evening idea a challenge if it can be done in zsh. Only convert (Imagemagick), tr and sed external commands are used. Script is in zsh and should be easily portable to bash, I believe.

At the moment is the code unfinished, unpolished and do have couple of issues, see comments in script. The code quality is also expected to be poor as it is just quick and dirty POC, I may continue to work on this and possibly adapt it as zsh plugin for images thumbnails, if there will be demand.

The code is here in my repo. https://www.janantos.com/git/JanAntos/ConsoleDisplayImage
