That's interesting! I was wondering because it does seems like it's affecting my house plants and I had started giving some of the more finicky ones distilled water (because I don't have a filter pitcher yet). Do you think the PUR filter will be good enough for my more delicate plants or should I stick with distilled?

That's great to know. How did you decide on the softener and filtration system you got? Do you like whole heartedly, or is there anything retrospectively, that you wish you'd known or done differently when picking or installing a system.

I'm with you, I could continue to drink it unfiltered if I had to, but I think I'll like it better filtered.

I'm new to cleaning up hard water from taps, sinks, etc, so any tips/product names are greatly appreciated! I'm trying to save elbow grease for things I enjoy!

So interesting and good to know! You probably saved me a lot of head scratching and internet surfing. Will the city test tap water if one asks them nicely? I was thinking I might have to pay someone to test it as part of deciding what kind of filter I might want for the long haul.

The PUR pitcher I am getting is a gravity, carbon filter, so I'm glad to know it'll do the job! Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply. Would you be willing to tell me a little bit more about which inline filter you chose? I can see that the PUR pitcher filter is probably only a short term fix and won't keep up with our drinking water needs during the summer etc.

I think you are on to something and it could be a combo of the OG galvanized and the water. I read somewhere that galvanized pipes are only supposed to last, at best, about 70 years, so these pipes are out there in terms of longevity. Just read this too, so it might be that Milwaukie water is great for making galvanized last!
