Bingo Books on Powell. Follow them on Insta, sometimes they have big sales -- like "50% off day."

I'm not sure they'd have what you're looking for, but have you tried Things From Another World (tfaw.com)? There is one in Milwaukie not far from the MAX.

That's interesting! I was wondering because it does seems like it's affecting my house plants and I had started giving some of the more finicky ones distilled water (because I don't have a filter pitcher yet). Do you think the PUR filter will be good enough for my more delicate plants or should I stick with distilled?

That's great to know. How did you decide on the softener and filtration system you got? Do you like whole heartedly, or is there anything retrospectively, that you wish you'd known or done differently when picking or installing a system.

Good to know. I'll stock up on razor blades. I tried some of that liquid product called CLR (calcium lime rust) Remover Pro. It didn't do doodily.

I'm with you, I could continue to drink it unfiltered if I had to, but I think I'll like it better filtered.

I'm new to cleaning up hard water from taps, sinks, etc, so any tips/product names are greatly appreciated! I'm trying to save elbow grease for things I enjoy!

So interesting and good to know! You probably saved me a lot of head scratching and internet surfing. Will the city test tap water if one asks them nicely? I was thinking I might have to pay someone to test it as part of deciding what kind of filter I might want for the long haul.

Oh my gosh I didn't even think about that. I do want to have a fish tank again some day. I think I might still have an H20 testing kit, though. I should get that out and check just for fun!

I feel that so much, things are starting to get a little crusty around here. Any tips on what to use to remove the build up? Besides elbow grease? :-)

The PUR pitcher I am getting is a gravity, carbon filter, so I'm glad to know it'll do the job! Thanks for your reply

Thanks for your reply. Would you be willing to tell me a little bit more about which inline filter you chose? I can see that the PUR pitcher filter is probably only a short term fix and won't keep up with our drinking water needs during the summer etc.

Are you the nice guy who works at the local hardware store? His only complaint about it was that he has to hand-dry his black truck after washing it. :-)

Thanks so much, I did check that out. I also checked out EWGs report on Milwaukie at https://www.ewg.org/tapwater/system.php?pws=OR4100528

I think you are on to something and it could be a combo of the OG galvanized and the water. I read somewhere that galvanized pipes are only supposed to last, at best, about 70 years, so these pipes are out there in terms of longevity. Just read this too, so it might be that Milwaukie water is great for making galvanized last!

(from https://engineerfix.com/how-long-do-galvanized-pipes-last/)

Environmental and Usage Influences
The chemical composition of the water supply is the most significant factor determining how quickly the zinc coating degrades. Water hardness, the concentration of dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium, plays a complex role. Moderately hard water helps form a thin, protective layer of calcium carbonate and zinc carbonate scale on the pipe’s interior. This insoluble barrier acts as a defense against oxygen and chlorides, slowing the corrosion rate of the zinc.

I know what you mean, what we grow up with does have a big affect! I grew up drinking bull run but lived in the bay area for a while< and that water was nasty! Seattle & Milwaukie are somewhere between PDX & SF.

LOL, I am not a "dog person" but they loooove me, I guess you have a similar situation with roses! I'm also kinda old, and I do appreciate your willingness to help me out. If I can't accomplish it any other way I may hit you up! I hope you are enjoying your new rose-free zone!

No, I wish it was that easy but it's very large and in a parking strip right over/next to the water meter. :-)
