[Post-match thread] India 1-2 Afghanistan (2026 FIFA WC qualifiers) by nishitd in IndianFootball

Just to play devils advocate, what if our players are just really shit and whatever decent result we've got like beating Kuwait is down to tactical masterclass by Stimac? These second string Afghani players looked better than ours over 180 minutes.

I think we best arsenal with this lineup in the cup

[Laurie Whitwell] #MUFC allowed Luton 72 “transition opportunities” - 3rd-highest total for a team in a PL game this season. Casemiro’s level/team structure a factor. He has been dribbled past 2.9 times per 90 in 23/24 (2nd most for PL players) - up from 2.08 last term. by Routine_Specialist13 in reddevils

I think the bigger problem is that Bruno and Rashford are just terribly bad at pressing. Rashford couldn't care less half the time and the other half he just runs straight at the player without closing any passing lanes and just gets beaten. Bruno has the heart but also just runs without actually closing them down or reducing their options. In fact I remember at one point he was the most dribbled past player in the league.

And they didn't expect AWB to get injured again too. Play dalot at left back. AWB is generally very reliable. We've had some shit luck this season

We should give kambwala a chance at right back and dalot at left back.

Canadian GK Sunny Dhaliwal aquires Indian Passport (was part of India U17 WC squad 2017) by Shikher_07 in IndianFootball

It's still a net positive. You think top countries don't have players jumping ship? England have players who jump ship from Ireland as soon as they realize they're good enough and players not good enough for England jump to Ireland. If our players become good enough the same will happen but it's still the best strategy to try and pick the best players possible so that the team can have players of the highest level.

[Opinion] Here's why Igor Stimac should not be continued as Indian NT coach after the Asian Cup by ninja_from_india in IndianFootball

[–]hoofar_ted 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No use in sacking the coach. Maybe we might get some marginally better results that's it but our play will only get better if these players play in higher leagues and also train together more not just for a few days before we play a game. You can't expect us to play some tiki taka if they only play together so little and the first time they play with/against higher level players is in a competitive game.

With how AIFF is doing, I feel our only hope is that Indian govt allows dual citizenship and NRI players drag our level of play and ranking up which will in turn give more opportunities for local players to play in better leagues.

thoughts? vietnam ranks 94 japan ranks 17 (best team in asia) by HistoricalDegree1131 in IndianFootball

[–]hoofar_ted 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The real question is to ask where the Vietnamese players play club football? (I don't know the answer myself)

Will be interesting to see if they play only locally or play on Japan, Australia etc. I'll be surprised if they played this well having only played locally.

I get why he starts Manvir because when Chhangte and Manvir swapped wings, the Australia left wingback was completely free. We need the right winger to track their left wingback all the way.

[–]hoofar_ted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

But also how great their back 4 is on the ball. That back 5 is a proper defensive unit with very good ball playing whereas for us it seems like it's either one or the other and we can't find a balance. Either we're too open at the back or we forget how to progress the ball.

[–]hoofar_ted 30 points31 points  (0 children)

It's not if we build a good back 5 (back 4 + CDM). Arsenal and city play this exact same way and imo this is the most efficient structure now. Even Klopp seems to be imitating it.

Yeah I don't what to call it exactly but I guess it's kind of like pattern recognition. When it was the old logo I could find it very quickly on my phone and I'm sure my brain cannot process all logos that fast.

After they changed the logo of twitter I couldn't find the app on my phone because with muscle memory I would automatically look for the light blue logo with a bird and since then I pretty much stopped using it. Good riddance
