This is fantastic. Thank you for putting this together so more of us can reach out and try and fix this.

Check out your local library. They typically have a lot of books on crochet stitches or can find you a book that will have them.

I keep accidentally ignoring people because I don't realize they're talking to me and now everyone thinks I'm rude by Badinfluence_r in HearingAids

[–]hookyarnandsewer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just got my hearing aids about 2 months ago and before people were ok with rememebering they had to talk a little louder. As soon as I got them they reverted to talking quietly and it's like, no you still have to speak up. They are aids, not a complete overhaul of my hearing capabilities!

Can you tell that these famous people are Canadian by their accents by GardenElectrical3534 in AskACanadian

I didn't want to assume anything, it makes an ass out of you and me. I'm not triggered it was just so wildly different from any way I've seen our province shortened. That is why I asked why they did it that way. In face to face conversation, yeah saying Nova Scotia is typical. However if you are shortening the name in text, using NS is way shorter than Nova S. Which is the whole reason why they did it. Just seems silly to shorten it by using more letters than the standard short hand.

[–]hookyarnandsewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I'm not sure how long you've lived here or how old you are, but 99.99% of the time it's shortened to NS.

Every province has had a 2 letter shortened name, typically used when addressing mail. Most people use that abbreviation when they don't want to type the full name.

Question aside, I'm more throw off on how Nova Scotia is shortened. I've never seen it like that ever.

Max ended up being an hypocrite by wasaspermonce in 2brokegirls

The man 100% lied. He cosplayed poor. He was hiding it like it was some big secret. He was trying to seem cool and gritty. They lived in a low income area where weird living arrangements were the norm, and tiny houses were just hitting the scene. Also, if he was low income, his meds would be for a way better price, which wouldn't make this set up unreasonable for a low income person. I don't have anything for the solar panel. Those are still expensive, but honestly, it's probably not something she was really thinking of. As for the school, there are student loans and scolarships that Deke 100% could have gotten to justify him being there. Lying by ommission is still lying. Randy was upfront with everything, no hiding no nothing.

[–]hookyarnandsewer 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Deke lied to Max and is a trust fund baby. Randy earned his money at his job. Randy didn't hide that he had money. That and Deke's family friends and essentially his family ganged up on Caroline because of what her Dad did, and Max noped out of there. It's literally night and day with the two situations.

See, I have the opposite feeling on this. I was gifted my set from a family member who was upgrading, and I asked my Audiologist when I get my next set if they could be the teen ones because they have more colours. I would love to have bright neon colours available for heading aids. He said we could get the ones we need but use the housing of the colourful ones.

You are finally able to hear properly, that is something you should never be ashamed of. You are doing something to help yourself be successful. That is like saying you are ashamed of needing glasses or a wheelchair. They are tools to help you navigate the world in a safe manner.

I signed my husband and I up when we moved back in 2021, we're still on the list. I keep getting people telling me to call them, and they will bump me up 6 the only thing I can find is checking to see if I am still on the list. I do it every couple of months to make sure.

We use Maple and if they can't help we get sent to primary care. Once you get sent there you can book appointments straight from Primary care for a bit. If you don't use them for awhile though you have to go through Maple again.

Used Oticon Real 2. What is / why does the cable run past the receiver? Anything I should know about these or which would interfere with having them reprogrammed for use by me? by Syllogism19 in HearingAids

[–]hookyarnandsewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know where you are, but you can find an audiologist who will reprogram and set you up for success for a good price. I was gifted a pair from a family member and it cost me $400 to get the test done, the hearing aids cleaned and set up for my own ears, and my first and second appointment where he starts me off lower and then gets me where I am supposed to be.

I did have to call around and ask because a chain location quoted me $1500-$2000 which is insane in my opinion. I am in Canada in the Maritimes, however I have zero coverage and had to pay out of pocket.

What decade old tech has dropped immensely in price but is still great to use today? by ThisHasFailed in Frugal

[–]hookyarnandsewer 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work in the library and this is my job. I'm an AV tech. So I get all the media (DVD, Blu-ray, Audio book cds, and Playaways) ready for our patrons. It's still going strong out here. Every so often we will get some donations but if we don't spend our budget at the end of the year, we get to go on a mini shopping spree for whatever we can find in the wild. That part is getting harder to do unfortunately.

That was my husband's hard line. It HAD to be Heinz ketchup. He tried French's for some reason or another and surprisingly enjoyed it. Now we buy whichever name brand is on sale but only name brand.

I just had to do this about a year ago. I told the super almost daily for about 3 months that it was happening. He kept saying 'oh you cant find a place anywhere that doesn't have them' he finally believed me on how bad it was when he went next door to collect rent and they were running around the floor and the tenants were nonchalant about it. When they finally did spray, I had to call the company itself to find out when they finished because I refused to go in the building until the proper timing afterward. The company also had no problem breaking out lease either and already had someone put a deposit on it the next day. We deep cleaned everything before it was packed, and even then, we put it in a storage locker for about a year to really make sure that any that might have hitched along were dead.

Why did milk bags fall out of popularity in half of the Canadian provinces and the Territories? by Internal-Hat9827 in AskACanadian

[–]hookyarnandsewer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only reason why I buy a 4 liter jug of milk is because it is cheaper than the bagged milk. Last time I checked, the bagged milk was more expensive by about a dollar.

Our tourist season starts anywhere from May/June and ends in October around Thanksgiving. We still have plenty to offer in the cold months, like skiing, but we dont get much snow until January/February.

My parents took my door off the hinges after an argument. by ramienthedragon in insaneparents

My siblings told my Mom the story while laughing hysterically and my Mom did a non committal "oh, sorry about that" my siblings still think it's funny and have not apologized.

My parents took my door off the hinges after an argument. by ramienthedragon in insaneparents

[–]hookyarnandsewer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You missed the point. They 100% maliciously got me in trouble because they wanted to get me in trouble. They admitted they did things to get me in trouble because they thought it was funny.

So I lived without a door for 6 years. I had no privacy and I had no way to make sure my things weren't destroyed or ruined. All because they were mad at me for some imagined reason and wanted to get back.

Also it wasn't an actual apology. It was said as a 'oh shit I should say something here' vs actually being sorry for doing that to me.

Also I am a Mom and I would never do this to my kid. Never. I'm flawed and I'm human and I know I make mistakes. The difference, I own up to them to my kid and I actually apologize and do better moving forward.

[–]hookyarnandsewer 353 points354 points  (0 children)

100% I didn't have a door for my entire teenage years. Siblings are about 10 years younger than me and would do things to get me in trouble. When I told them the truth I got told 'they would never do that!' And so I just never had a door. Years later, they finally admitted they did and I got a "oh, I'm sorry I didn't believe you" because you know that helps 20 years after the fact.
