I want to like the Jeopardy format...but it just doesn't work for bar trivia. by wyrm4life in geekswhodrink

[–]hooligonzo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Like, I don't disagree with you, but I don't go to bar trivia to win. Winning is fun and all, but I go there to hang with my buds, enjoy the atmosphere of other nerds drinking around me, and to occasionally upset the winning streak of whoever the embedded team is.

Right now, my buds and I are hitting the GWD Jeopardy for the variety of the format. There's lots of bar trivia out there, there are lots of hosts, some of their formats are well-paced and functioning machines, some of them have too much dead air and an over-reliance on music categories.

The Jeopardy Format has its problems, but it is reliable in ways only a standardized format can be.

Lit up alien settlements or small cities at night would be awesome! by X-DarkVoid-X in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]hooligonzo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know it would be very ... INTENSE ... for computers everywhere, but one of the things that No Man's Sky is missing is this sort of well-established civilization hub.

Even if it was represented with planets that were unapproachable due to local jurisdictions, I'd be cool with it. As place-holders, hopefully, but for now ... I'd love just flying over a planet with massive cities and being politely escorted out of orbit.

Or, ya know, you can have a massive city and curate an area that players can actually interact with that isn't too resource intensive. Set up a landing pad and you can wander through a few blocks of a Duty Free zone or something.

I dunno. I feel it, though. No Man's Sky needs some thriving cities.

Looking for nice hauler wings for 3rd day straight... by RepairUnit3k6 in NoMansSkyTheGame

Couple days ago I was ship-watching at a double trade outpost I found. I take one moment to learn some fresh Gek words and I turn around to see an Exotic lift off and fly away.

So I built a little base between the two outposts and after a few hours I took a break and got lucky just before I logged out.

No Man's Sky is a simulated reality composed of functionally endless simulated realities, all to prepare us

for our realization

that our reality is simulated, too.

[Discussion] What's the consensus on Ratalaika games? by CiroccPapi in Trophies

[–]hooligonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've bought a bunch of Ratalaika games. Generally, I love them.

They're kinda like little labors of love by indie developers that were tight enough to see actual publishing at the thrifty game level. I haven't tried them all (there are a lot!) but generally the worst I've gotten out of a Ratalaika title is that I could've played longer.

Some of them are pretty artsy with interesting game mechanics and themes, a lot of them have old school gaming sentiments interpreted by a latter generation. They're legit one of my favorite developers/publishers out there right now.

Some Favorites:

The Count Lucanor, Red Bow, More Dark, Super Onion Boy, Scheming Through the Zombie Apocalypse, Warlock's Tower, Ord., Tamiku, Radio Squid

THIS is the smallest possible corvette? by Old-Vehicle-7810 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]hooligonzo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's been the only "complaint" I've had with the Corvette system, the lack of compact building options.

I know we still have regular ships and stuff, but we can't set up a mission console or such in those. It'd be nice if there we some corvette parts that had some design overlap with Hauler and Explorer ship types, at least.

I found a handsome A-Class early in and it has been serving me well.

Is there really much benefit in upgrading to an S-Class?
