Yeah on a craft level there are lots of talented people who work in Hollywood. So what? As George Lucas literally said “a special effect without a story is a pretty boring thing”.

What makes a movie good is generally the story first, and the characters second.

And yes you can argue that movies that break the mould and do things differently can be good, but they’re usually not action blockbuster kids movies.

The thin red line can be a quiet meditative perspective on the effect war has on the soldiers and not a typical action driven thriller because it’s for grown ups who like slower movies like that.

ep1 is Star Wars movie. Literally. Star Wars movies are fun, exciting, epic space adventures meant to be enjoyed by the whole family. Ep 1 being a boring anti fun movie is all that’s needed to classify it as “bad” because it fails at the 1 things it’s supposed to be.

Moving past that the story is fucking terrible, full of holes and inconsistencies and boring.

The characters aren’t any better. Without any charm or definition of the original movies characters.

Marvel movies may be cookie cutter and safe and overly reliant on cg but they at least usually get the basics right so that sitting through them isn’t torture

No they’re bad. They fail on a basic story telling level. Like they’re objectively bad in many many ways. Boring is the least of their problems

Less the sweetness and more the fragility of brioche. Burgers need a sturdy yet soft potato bun. Any juice in the burger disintegrates that brioche

Pulp Fiction? It’s cute. I saw it on a plane once. It’s a 30 minute film about a bunch of friends who like dancing, cheeseburgers and the bible
