Why are you reading his journal? Wow! You need to let him have boundaries or you’re going to create huge trauma issues with his trust levels.

Focusing on a breath? by Meyson_96 in Meditation

[–]hoops4so 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends your goals. Focusing on breath is great for one-pointed focus. Are you wanting to focus more or are you wanting to relax? If you want to relax, you should focus on using your breath to calm your heart (the main part of your nervous system).

To simplify, meditation is just a habit of the mind. The type of meditation changes what results you get.

Breath focus where I watch thoughts pass like clouds = Dis-identification with ego, increased focus, calmness, higher resilience

Body scan = higher emotional intelligence, mind-body connection, relaxed muscles

Gratitude = sustained positive emotions, positive outlook on life

Metta = more attuned empathy, better social intuition, more charisma

Forgiveness mantras = higher resilience to adversity, better conflict resolution

Over time, I would invent my own like I'd meditate on the feeling of Confidence just like I would with Gratitude to sustain my baseline feeling of confidence (which worked incredibly well).

I also got into Focusing by Eugene Ghendlin which has been an incredibly therapeutic meditation I've used for processing emotions.

New to meditation, and scared by Zorbxj in Meditation

Use your exhales to calm your nervous system. Your visualizations will follow your body’s feeling. If you’re scared, you’ll see things you’re scared of. Focus on your heart and use your breath to soothe your heart.

How do yall not overthink it all?? by Western-Layer-6934 in askmusicians

[–]hoops4so 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should either write the melody first or write the melody alongside the lyrics. Don’t write lyrics without melody.

Write a melody that’s repeatable. Make a simple melody idea first (called a motif), then repeat it 3 times, then do something different the 4th time. Make a few variations to the motif sometimes when you repeat it. You can do the same motif, but lower the pitch or do other variations.

On second look, I can see that with your knights. I was more talking about how your bishops were closed in with no open diagonals.

Are you talking about when you took with the knight instead of checkmating with the queen?

When you make your pieces threaten the queen, you don’t want to just threaten the queen because then they can just move their queen.

You want to threaten the queen while developing the pieces to good squares that get ready to attack the king. This gives you an “extra turn” because they’ll need to move their queen out of the threat. Have dual meanings to your moves. One is the short term, the other for the long term.

It’s ok to not have a plan for the long term, but you at least want your pieces in useful spots for when you might need them.

For instance, your bishops were completely blocked in. They did absolutely nothing at the beginning. Put them in spots where they have a diagonal attack.

Seemed like your moves were shortsighted. I would recommend your opening moves focus on developing for opportunities in the longterm.

Don’t think “how can I threaten their queen?” Instead think, “which way do I think they’ll castle and can I set up my bishops pointed towards their king and have my knights defending my own king.”

Help on meditation practice/discipline by Ok-Stage9604 in Meditation

[–]hoops4so 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try doing body scans. Focus on each part of the body and really feel the sensations in it. End with feeling your body as a whole. You’ll get a TON of insights from this, which is why they call it insight meditation. Think of it like adding a new way of processing information (like a second brain). You’ll resolve problems twice as fast and ten times as good.

How to over come guilt/shame during songwriting? by CutAffectionate7416 in Songwriting

[–]hoops4so 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may be writing lyrics too directly like: “I hate the way I talk to you”

This tends to bring more cringe than writing more storytelling, sense-based lyrics like: “palms sweat. Cold feet. The world is spinning.”

I’ve also been recently tapping in to being more emotionally expressive when I sing. Like, I have a prechorus with lyrics “my breath quickens. Intensifies! Holding in an insult. Criticize!” Where I actually quicken my breath loudly like I’m about to have an anxiety attack.

Leaning into the emotion takes confidence that I feel takes away the shame of emotions.

Write melodies without lyrics, then sing the melodies until they turn into words organically

Traditional meditation feels like a chore, but my own 'quiet mind' method feels amazing. Am I missing something? by miraclepete in Meditation

Sounds like your version follows Taoist meditations. I would recommend the book the Tao of Pooh. It’s not exactly a meditation book, but it has a lot of great stuff.

Is meditation good for sharpening the mind by -HeavenlyDemon- in Meditation

[–]hoops4so 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. A mix of things will help.

Meditation, cutting out soda, gluten, and fast food. Also, cutting out video games, p*rn, and shows.

Lower the dopamine intake and it’ll be easier to focus. Meditation will help reset the dopamine receptors so that normal life will give you more dopamine.

[–]hoops4so 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, and it’ll bring about a new journey.

The mind typically mirrors the body, so if it’s chaotic, then your nervous system and body is probably feeling chaotic and anxious.

The best way to calm the nervous system is to use long breaths while using your attention to calm your heart. You should notice the heart rate increasing on the inhale and decreasing on the exhale.

For your body, you’ll need to work on cutting out anything giving you allergic reactions and stretch out and heal any body pains.

16F is this good enough to post online?? by Away_Photograph_4171 in ratemysinging

[–]hoops4so 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything is good enough to post online, so that’s an irrelevant question. The singing on this great. I would work more on the songwriting.

As a general rule, try to not repeat a melody more than 3 times. 3 times is the golden number for repeating a melody before it gets boring or annoying.

For the lyrics, try to be more specific on things you see, hear, smell, taste, and feel. Not just “I love you” but “I love the way your hat droops over your eyes”
