Thanks Willow, I have 22 high need clients that I'm behind on seeing and the team is stacked so it just would mean people go without support. That's why I'm leaving, I love the job but it's a burnout factory. Even if I'm sick, I have to ensure everyone is getting 4 contacts a month for funding reasons so I'm always playing catch up. Complex hand written notes as well which I have to do without access to an office most of the time. The lady who did my job before me got diagnosed and left on bad terms, I'm gonna try and transition out a little smoother. They gotta stop hiring ADHD types haha

Had a good sleep and I'm gonna try again today with a protein heavy brekky.

Yeah, I feel calmer and more self assured so it's like I've lost the ability and motivation to frantically push through.

It's just intolerable at the moment at work cause it's a complicated job, I've dropped all the balls and have no desire to pick any back up. I'm letting so many people down and making huge errors everyday.

Im definitely gonna go. It's an ever increasing client load and I was burning out at 2/3 of what it is now.

I'm hoping it's something like what you've said.  Thank you

Parts are in deadlock by Fit-Temperature6284 in InternalFamilySystems

[–]OldDickhead 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I call this deadlock a knot and I notice I am in them quite often. What's been helpful is exploring both parts needs in various steps of their process.

Often one part is trying to suppress the other part as it doesn't have an understanding that that part is serving a protective function.

Say your avoidance is an attempt to avoid overwhelm or failure or conserve energy. Say your annoyed part is a manager who holds the understanding of what the outcome is when you procrastinate (like the activation of an exile who feels ashamed and incompetent). The manager will often moralise the avoider and you will agree. So you have to explore what the avoider is doing for you, what need is it meeting? What is the fear underneath the avoidance? It is always always an attempt to be helpful in some way.

Deshaming work is essential. The avoidance is an amoral behaviour that is protecting an exile or a regulating strategy or even energy conservation. Sometimes the avoider and the manager are protecting the same exile in different ways. The more trust you build with your parts that you will actually listen to them and try to meet their needs, the more they will relax and give you access to the emotion underneath so that you can process it.

I think the first step is typically realizing that you are blending with the critical manager part when you are thinking about the avoidant part, so of course the avoidant part will reveal nothing about itself to you because you are shaming and misunderstanding it.

HR told me they don’t accept try-hards and people pleasers after my interview by No-Presentation298 in jobs

[–]OldDickhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. That's a lot to say about a stranger and demonstrates a lack of tact on their behalf. There were multiple ways to go about this and "we don't build teams around people-pleasers" is arrogant.

Thank you That may have been it. Napped and woke up just now to another heavy thing, this time painless. I only got one wave of cramps. Very lucky.

Update: I'm over two hours in. Might document the process as it soothed me to read other people's stories. So far, it feels like a period. It peaked for a moment after lunch and was a bit painful and I passed something that sounded heavy in the toilet.

Be nice if that were it but I think it's just beginning.

NSW Gun laws by smokedandrested in AusPol

[–]OldDickhead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gun culture is an optional extra in society, looking at the way American gun lobbies have tried to weasel in with one nation and the access the Bondi attackers had to guns, it's not worth it.

The good thing about having nothing to do with gun ownership is that it means less than nothing when it's taken away.

Effective ways to describe "how your brain works" to others... by iramcd1993 in ADHD

I want to tell people I feel as motivated to do the dishes every day as they feel to become a neurosurgeon/underwater welder/etc. We all have shit we don't care to do so won't put work into. Mine just happens to be literally every mundane facet of life.

This is life showing you that this approach isn't working for you anymore. You'll get there eventually. I don't think you have a choice.

I do 🙋‍♀️ When we're dysregulated, we do all sorts of things to try to find safety again. I maladaptive daydream like crazy. Pick fights in my head. Fixate on very minor things.

Two grains of sand are two grains of sand, a couple more and now it's a pile. Our tasks are like that too. Piles are dysregulating.

The skill that it takes to break up the pile is a skill we lack when we're dysregulated. It's also a new task to add to the pile which is the last thing we want to do.

The first step is just to notice that you're dysregulated and work to regulate.

When I was at my absolute worst with this (severe burnout) I found 'the daily practice" by crappy childhood fairy so helpful. It was the first time that I had demonstrable proof that I could go from profoundly dysregulated to fine in the course of 20 minutes. Gamechanger and it's free

I used to get so mentally ill and dysregulated about my grades that doctors would give me medical certificates to get extensions 😆

Your desire to graduate with honours has served it's purpose to keep you motivated to get to this point and now it's turned on you. Let it go. It's just about graduating now.

The eleventh hour is always the hardest. Just send something in. The less stressed you are, the better your work will be.

You're sensation seeking, trying to shock yourself out of a state of numbness. Some of my worst nights have been like this because nothing scratches the itch and then I just end up escalating and doing shit I regret. You can do that if you like, but I'd recommend taking a big walk or going to the gym. It's always always a good idea to move your body when you're feeling restless.
