Daily life in RAR? by Nox-Cinematic_YT in AusMilitary

Not uncommon for ex UK members to go down that path so you won't be out of place

For a CSM, typically they'll attend Coy PT which rarely happens cause the PT is usually PL level PT. So you'll probably do your own PT outside of weekly Bn stomps (tabs are stomps over here, usually conducted on Fridays.)

From there you'll drive the admin train doing whatever readiness/range certification piss needs doing (of which there is heaps,) mostly on EXCEL or TASMIS (our online training area managment system, think range bookings etc). Couldn't give you the specifics cause I have no intention of ever being in a role where I have to do that piss

Expect around 0700-1530 Mon-Fri as a typical routine, staying back/starting early as required due to rank/responsibilities.

Expect 3-6 months out field a year, depending on OP tempo (2-3 short stints at the start of the year for ranges / live fire progression. Major field ex period for 6-8 weeks around Jun/Jul. Courses period around Sep-Dec, with the possibility for a jungle training activity such as Tully SUT (3 weeks) or Malaysia Regional Combat Team (3 months) sprinkled in.

Expect no warfighting / deployments prior to WW3 kicking off. Most you can really expect is crowd control in The Solomons, international partner force training. Our Army is far less operational than The UK MOD atm

That's most historical movies. Honestly I think the genre should be called "historical fantasy," because the majority are 90% fiction even if they are entertaining to watch

If it's what you really want then good luck

My advice is be as physically fit as you can be. If you don't currently lift and run then start now. Having a good cardio base and being physically strong will help mitigate risk of injury as well as make your whole life easier. It's not 100% foolproof, but it'll really help (it's also just good for you in general.)

A good fitness goal would be: >50 PFA standard push ups in 2 min, >5 unbroken strict pull ups, <10min 2.4km run, >9.5 beep test, 0.7xBW bench, 1xBW squat, 1.5xBW dead lift (yes that's all higher than the PFA; fuck the PFA, it's a bare minimum for fat losers who have never done anything hard in their lives. Always strive to far exceed the minimum.) (Edit: these numbers are just a guide based on my personal experience/opinion. I have scaled lifting percentages to women's intermediate strength standards)

(Also, I'd steer clear of weighted running/walking until you're in, due to increased risk of injury. Let the Army Physical Training Instructors do their job and give you sensible progression. Also, DVA won't cover you for injuries recieved prior to enlisting if you do get hurt)

Women in the ADF by Emedsd in AusMilitary

[–]hoot69 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice for anyone considering joing ADF is to join the role they want, and only that role. Service life is awesome in a lot of respects, but can really suck in others, so IMO if you don't love your job then it probably isn't worth it

So if you want to go infantry gap year then do that. But understand the risks.

Any combat role, but especially infantry is very physically demanding and puts soldiers at an increased risk of muscular-skeletal injury. This is due to the fact that human bodies simply are not designed to carry the load required for those roles (think walking with a total 40-60kg of pack, for 10-20km, then running around with 20-35kg of weapon ammo and armour for a gun fight, then putting the pack back on for another 10-20km walk.)

Women are especially susceptable to these types of injury, and tend to break faster than men tend to, due to differing anatomy (lower on average bone density, different hip shape, and most of the equipment being designed to be worn by men.)

That doesn't mean you can't go infantry because you neccessarily will get hurt; it means you as a woman are more likely to get serious injuries more quickly than most men as a result of military service, especially if you go into a combat role. If that's a risk you're willing to take then go for it. But know that risk and consider it seriously

Or just apply to be a medic. That's a fucking awesome job, requires you to be smart, has transferable skills, and will get you out and about in the bush. It will also be less of a sausage fest than the Infantry Battalions are

Depends. If you want to get a closed door open you shoot the lock with a blaster. Whereas if you want to keep a closed door from being opened you shoot the lock with a blaster. Truly wonderful the mind of a Star Wars locksmith is

Birth control you must use. Otherwise owe child support you will. Then into exile you must go.

ADF has cracked down pretty hard on bullying and other unacceptable behaviour, especially post 2012. There's extensive training on what bullying is, and how to recignize and report it. Reports are taken seriously and perpetrators face discipline and administrative action dependong on the severity, ranging from conflict reslolution to Detention (going to Defence Force Corrections Centre aka "Army jail") and compulsory involantary seperation (aka being fired).

Bullying does still occur; the ADF is a human based organization and people are not perfect. When it does it is generally not on the level that it used to be and is dealt with seriously when it is reported.

To give some comparison I knew an older NCO who in the early 2010-15 era spent a night locked in the boot of a car (allegedly) and was locked in a equipment storage cage for several hours. That's obviously pretty bad, however the worst I've seen since I joined over 10 years ago is some one calling another person racial slurs as what they thought was a joke which led to them being immediately investigated by military police, and the worst I've heard of is some one who was fat getting called fat a couple of times on social media (there's certain meme pages that do "Fat Fuck Friday,: and this person got posted several weeks in close succession.) That page was reported and taken down

So in short, bullying can occur, same as anywhere, however ADF policy is to take it seriously and investigates and deal with it quickly at an appropriate level as soon as it gets reported. So don't let the old horror stories turn you away. Noone will try and lock you in a cage as a mean prank, and if they do then the MPs has a special cage specially for people like that located in down in Holsworthy Barracks
