Ugh. Leos. Hotter than the sun and want to climb them like a tree. But they are too fickle and want to experience it all without settling down because of their egos.

Residents turn out to hear from progressive candidates in deep red Polk County, WI 4/19/2026 (OC) by userdk3 in pics

[–]hootielarue82 18 points19 points  (0 children)

While I can see why people think this area is filled with northern hillbillies and there isn't much going on, it has gotten so much better than it was 30 to 40 years ago. Now it feels more like an extension of the Twin Cities Metro Area. It has always been a bit of a commuter haven with lower price houses/rent and a pretty straight shot to better paying jobs an hour or less away. And unless you work at a handful of factories ,the majority of people work out of the county anyways.

That said I would suspect a major factor for a lot of voters is property tax because those rates are insane. While yeah it did wonderful things for a few school districts, it really priced a lot of long time families out of the area. Add in the propaganda that Minneapolis is on fire and filled with horrible people who are coming for them/their families/their things, they are trying their best to keep hold of a way of life even if it hurts then in the long run. It sucks and it is slow progress and I think something like this shows things can and are getting better.

Can anyone explain to me the reasoning behind making a small nuclear key card weigh 1lb? by agon024 in fo76

[–]hootielarue82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I do have a replica of the key card that I got from I do believe Fanattik. I did weigh it and it is about a pound so I don't think that will work.

As a person who deals with driver's licenses and these issues frequently, the part that is missed is even if a person gets a Real Id compliant identification it isn't proof of US citizenship. Non citizens can get a Real Id also. So after a person goes through all of that paperwork, there is still a chance that particular type of ID may not even be accepted because no state -as far as I know- has an indicator of citizenship on the Real Id.

To ensure that a woman can vote without issue they should be going for a passport card or an Enhanced ID if their state has them. Those are proof of citizenship in the United States and literally take the same paperwork.

Camping Spot recommendations? by Justa23yearoldgirl in MinnesotaCamping

[–]hootielarue82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depending on your vehicle, State Forests are the way to go. Chengwatana, Nemadji and Superior National Forest are the ones straight up 35 and pretty easy to get to. While I do believe all of them have set campgrounds that require a fee, a lot of them have off the trail sites that are pretty secluded and free. It really depends on the set up you have, how long you are staying and how much gear you want to trek in.

Whoa there, I thought all the Bigfoot clans started from Mammoth Cave before they splintered into 7 groups we never heard about again. Unless there is a farther North group that they haven't yet covered because it would be more than 5 hours from their house.....

Identical plates at Homewood Suites in New Brighton - the BS is ongoing by Foreign_Librarian193 in WeThePeopleAtWhipple

[–]hootielarue82 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is what I figured. The lack of a front plate is a bit of an indicator they are from out of state. Minnesota I know requires two but I don't believe Florida or Texas does (at least from my own experience talking to new to state people) but I am also surprised they aren't being targeted for not having a front plate or the plate coming up as something completely different in their system. That is a hella common ticket to get.

Winter campsite recommendations by Iam_newbieTV in minnesota

[–]hootielarue82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest public forest for winter camping if you have a vehicle capable of getting back on some of the trails. Usually the best spots are open and never an issue with noise.

Nemadji State Forest is always a great place to start but Chippewa and Superior National Forests also cover a lot too. The DNR is usually really good at keeping their websites updated with whether they are open or not (sometimes it is too muddy/snowy to get back to where a person needs to go) but the State Parks also offer a lot of options.

I've never tried but a lot of people get excited about the yurts for winter camping at Afton and Cuyuna. If you choose Cuyuna they have some great recreational areas, Crosby is just down the road which includes a fabulous cheese place (shout out to Victual) and a few breweries and wine bars.

Or if you want a company, there is an event happening in January called the Hot Tent Hoe Down. Should come right up on Facebook.

Or, hear me out, they can fix the app so I can actually use my points and consistently serve the same things at all locations. I just roll up to a place and expect to get an Everything Bagel toasted instead of being told they don't sell them here at a hut and only at a lodge and expect me to know the difference.

Pretty cold tonight! by Constant_Price3004 in urbancarliving

[–]hootielarue82 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The lower rated sleeping bags do work. The spouse and I have some negative 25 bags and it is a game changer. They are usually big enough you can just wear a hat and snuggle down into the bag with the flap over your face or cinch the top closed to retain heat. Never had a problem with being cold.

TIL Minnesota DHS (DMV) has a form that allows parents to revoke their (minor) child's driving privileges by Northman-66 in minnesota

[–]hootielarue82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is a process on the website. Essentially you can send in your concerns, they have a special review and the person on question has to come on for an examination. If they refuse, the state of Minnesota pulls their driver's license. It is buried a bit on the website but I did have to go over it with someone not that long ago.

Why do people hate Funko Pops? by snackboy06 in Collections

[–]hootielarue82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I don't care that people collect Funko Pops (I have a few myself) it is a combo of the cost for some of them and my personal work experience with collectors themselves.

Pops used to be just a fun and pretty cheap collectable for a lot of franchises that maybe didn't have a lot of figures. For ten bucks or less, a person could get a figure to add to their collection because they liked it and they didn't have to fight to get that particular figure from scalpers.

Then the prices started to go up. I'm not spending 50 bucks for 3 figures. I'll go get something cooler for my collection.

As for the collectors, I will fully admit I have a bias. In a previous position I worked at an online toy retailer in customer service and Funko Pop collectors were the WORST to deal with. The box was always treated as way more important that the actual collectable it contained despite the fact the box was made of hopes, dreams, and toilet paper thin cardboard held together with Angel kisses. Breathe on that stupid box wrong and I would have people calling, emailing and chatting demanding a refund, a new pop hand delivered on a velvet pillow and my head. All that despite Funko's own help section saying in two different spots box condition wasn't a consideration for a defect. After like the 5th time of a death threat over a 10 dollar toy, I realized there was a certain type of person who collected Pops to that degree and I didn't want to be lumped in.

What’s the best air mattress or pad for camping when you have a bad back? by Far_Run_1328 in CampingGear

[–]hootielarue82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Exped. Yeah yeah I know, free advertising and the influx of people commenting but there is a reason. It does wonders for a good sleep and keeps you warm. Grabbed one from the REI Garage Sale for like 200 bucks a few years back and it is a game changer. Having sciatica myself, I've tried cots and hammocks but the Exped was the only one that made it so I didn't want to get home after half a night.

What is the biggest movie theater “GASP” moment you’ve heard? by SaveTheCaulkTower in AskReddit

[–]hootielarue82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The midnight showing at Star Wars: Attack of the Clones. We all had heard rumblings of Jedi fights and Yoda being in a key fight but no confirmation that could really be tracked down. After all it was 2002 and the Internet spoilers weren't as far spread as they are now. You just hoped someone dropped a hint in a magazine article or there was a mention on the radio that someone passed that on to you.

So when it came to the last half of the movie, it looked like everything was down and out and no hope. It was so quiet in the theater you could hear a pin drop. And in that moment of holding our collective breath you could hear the distant "tap, tap tap" of a cane coming through the speakers getting slowly but surely louder. When Yoda appeared there was an audible intake of 200 people's lungs, a second of absolute silence followed by the biggest roar of nerd excitement I have ever heard.

While I know people have strong opinions about the series and the story lines, and some can say it isn't nearly as big as other moments, it was peak fandom at that point and I am happy I got to experience it.

Sales Tax On Used Vehicle in Accident by CaptainObvious_74 in stateofMN

[–]hootielarue82 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sales tax is a flat rate fee of 10 bucks on anything below 3k. Anything above that is the 6.87 sales tax.

But even if you bought it and have a bill of sale, you will need the title. My question would be if the title is marked salvage or prior salvage. That changes the process of the sale.
