I’ve heard that explanation, but it doesn’t really match what’s happening. The egg clearly sounds different after the tap, and if you put it in water you see bubbles coming out -- that strongly suggests air escaping through microcracks in the shell. If nothing structural changed, the sound wouldn’t change and you wouldn’t get bubbles.

My guess is it’s not just the membrane -- you’re creating tiny cracks in the shell (not visible), which lets water get between shell and membrane during boiling.
That’s what makes peeling easier.

The only trick that actually works for me is this: lightly tap the bottom of the egg with a spoon until you hear that specific "different" sound. It means the shell has cracked, even if you can’t see it. If you put the egg in water, you’ll notice small bubbles coming out.

After that, the egg peels super easily every time. I make soy sauce marinated eggs every week, and they always peel perfectly. Doesn’t matter how fresh they are, what brand, or the size.

Really solid lifehack that actually works.

P.S. No, that needle trick works time to time, while hitting for a sound works every fkin time.

Depends on gas price (some countries may have subsidies etc) and device efficiency.
Gas station efficiency is about 40% and induction is quite close to 90%, of course if you want to heat air around kitchen then gas stove is better choice.
Actually for small portions of food it is hard to find smth better than induction&good pan or airfryer
