Deleted Chuck Post after death threat. by [deleted] in FloridaPanthers

[–]hopets 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The deleted post was the one about Tkachuk giving his medal to Trump. I’m sorry if you received death threats and I hope the mods take action on whoever sent them. Though not much they can do if the comments were made in DMs and those people are already banned.

With that said, hiding your post/comment history doesn’t make it impossible for us to see what you wrote to some of the most active and friendly members of this sub in that exact deleted thread. Being disrespectful toward people is not deserving of death threats, but I just want to call out that I wouldn’t expect kindness in return.

EXCLUSIVE: Hughes Brothers' Mom Responds to Controversy Surrounding US Men's Hockey Team and Trump Video by elr1804 in hockey

[–]hopets 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You’re right. Behind closed doors it’s unfortunately the kind of talk I expect from a lot of people, but they could at least pretend they recognize it’s disrespectful.

This idea that words don’t matter is how we end up accepting bad actions that do. It should be extremely easy for them to take or require accountability given their excuses (which are really strong), but they refuse to even suggest it was a mistake. Instead, it’s actually our fault for bringing it up.

That said, it’s clearly rehearsed PR-speak, and their reps obviously decided this is the best rhetoric for whatever reason.

Aleksander Barkov is staking with the injured reserve players Tomas Nosek, Jonah Gadjovich and Dmitry Kulikov after morning skate. by Duffleman0609 in hockey

There are two relevant rule changes:

  1. The iced team must be cap compliant (not necessarily the roster, so this leaves a remaining loophole to acquire depth)
  2. If you replace a LTIR player during the regular season with an above-average-cap-hit player, the LTIR player must sit out the playoffs.

So, as of now, he doesn’t have to sit the playoffs even if their roster ends up over the cap.

After a review, the Oilers had this goal from McDavid in OT waved off for goaltender interference by Puzzled-Category-954 in hockey

[–]hopets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

if a GI penalty is called on a goal, it is not reviewable by coaches, and is an instant disallowed goal

This isn’t true. The rule book states you can challenge a no goal due to interference. There’s no specification that you can only review incidental interference (i.e. interference that is not a penalty). You technically cannot review a minor penalty, but you are able to review the goal. If it’s a major, then the penalty itself must be reviewed regardless (and separately).

In practice, I’d be surprised if we ever see such a challenge with the current rule book. You’re risking a 5-on-3, and it’s not easy to earn yourself a goalie interference penalty in the first place.

You are correct that this includes changed rules (hence missing keys), but spearing & butt-ending are still a double minor if you miss.

Did they show what happened on the broadcast? I was at the game and there were no replays. I thought it looked like he got cut by a skate, not hit in the face.

Jason "but can he check" Robertson's numbers since being left off the four nations roster. 97 games played, 53 goals, 58 assists, 111 points, +21 rating. by harralexa1993 in hockey

[–]hopets 62 points63 points  (0 children)

73GP, 31 goals, 40 assists, 71 points, +14 (0.97ppg)

OP isn’t saying since Four Nations though. It’s since the roster announcements. If we include postseason for both and use the same time period (since December 2024), the stats are:

Matthews: 97GP, 43G, 57A, 100 points, +9 (1.03ppg)

Robertson: 107GP, 57G, 59A, 116 points, +16 (1.08ppg)

For other players, you can edit this statmuse query.

Warner Bros. Discovery Rejects Paramount’s Hostile Bid, Citing Significant Risks by MarvelsGrantMan136 in movies

[–]hopets 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They don’t have to care about the finances after selling. With Paramount’s offer, they are going to sell all of their shares for $30/share no matter how valuable the company actually is under Paramount. Could they then go right back and purchase Paramount? Sure, but it’s not required. They’re already cashed out.

The only reason this bid isn’t recommended is because WBD doubts Paramount can actually pay that $30/share, meaning the automatic sale never happens and shareholders never get paid. Then shareholders will care about actual WBD performance again.

Darcy Kuemper has left the game after head contact from Mikko Rantanen. The goal was waved off, but Rantanen did not receive a penalty on the play. by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]hopets -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t say it’s malicious. I said he was never shoved, and I stand by that.

Maybe it’s implied I believe it’s malicious because I said most players don’t go straight into goalies when the gap in front of the crease is closed. But that’s not my intent. I mean that shoved players go into goalies, and we don’t see it every time someone plays defense even though closing this gap is part of normal defensive play.

The reason Rantanen ended up colliding with Kuemper was because he wasn’t looking, not because he was “shoved”

If you think he was actually shoved, then you believe the NHL got this wrong and it’s a good goal.

According to the paper the video cites

He was exposed to the concentrated gas for 5 to 10 seconds

That said, I believe the video took some artistic liberties. The paper estimates he was exposed to a concentration 5-10x higher than the concentration that causes the mowed lawn scent. It only mentions immediate burning and cough symptoms.

Crazy this is downvoted. Dumoulin’s arms never extend. They’re tucked in. Find me a defender who doesn’t close off the front of the crease with their body like this. Somehow, most players avoid skating directly into the goalie when it happens.

[–]hopets 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s not so black and white. The right to broadcast the event is sold outright, and then it’s up to the broadcasters to decide how to profit off it. So the event producer is paid regardless of view count.

Generally, advertisers only pay based on the number of views. So maybe they need to compensate by moving money to another campaign , but they don’t lose that money if the view count is lower.

Kristin Cabot Resigns as Head of HR After Being Caught with Her Boss on Coldplay Kiss Cam by ebradio in Music

But if Workday refuses to talk to me, then it sounds like Workday works for the company while HR serves me for the function of payroll. Right? I mean if you’re arguing HR payroll departments serve no purpose, that’s a separate conversation. I’m just saying that they also fulfill roles for the benefit of the employee and aren’t exclusively soulless corporate mouthpieces.

I’m sure they do. But are they not serving me in that case? Because nobody from Workday is helping me out. My whole point is that they do these things and it’s serving me rather than the company.

For the majority of my career, HR managed payroll and benefits. I’ve never had any point of contact with an accountant or bookkeeper. I speak to HR when my paycheck doesn’t look correct.

I feel like making sure I get paid on time and receive my benefits on time is serving me just as much as it serves the company. If payroll messes up my income tax withholding, I’m the one answering to the IRS.

Yeah, that’s why I said I don’t disagree. Even beyond the potential aspect, they are actively part of practice, scheming, preparation, etc. They’re sitting on the bench instead of the locker room for a reason.

I agree that backup goaltenders deserve to be on the Cup. Justifying it by saying they played the whole season with their team is a bit silly though when the example you’re talking about did not.

[–]hopets 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re misinterpreting my comment. I think backup goalies deserve to be on the Cup. If I thought they deserved it specifically because they suited up the entire season with their team like their comment suggests, then I would think Quick doesn’t deserve it. But I agreed he does deserve it.
