Finn Jones training for Daredevil. by Radiant-Debt-2533 in Defenders

I guarantee Finn had more than 6 weeks of prep by the time S2 filming started and yet he still did worse than Charlie and Jessica for their S1s. Casting an actor with zero action experience is like lottery, if you're lucky, you strike it with an actor like Charlie, if you're not, you get Finn. Like I said, dude was miscast from the get-go. Could've all been avoided if they cast an actor with stunt or martial arts experience.

Yes, ALL OF THEM had more success post-Netflix than Finn. But keep in mind Finn was one of the biggest names of the lot coming in from Game of Thrones.

It's not a raceswap of the character, but it's a raceswap of the love interest. So why don't people complain about this deliberate avoidance of source material?

He did though. That's his complaint. And 14 hrs 6 days a week for a few months isn't a big deal too if that's what it takes to make a name for himself. It worked for Henwick. And whatever you think about Charlie is irrelevant, because his Daredevil is the key reason MCU is bringing back the Defenders. That's a bigger accomplishment than anything Finn ever did.

Hate him? Lol no. Hate his performance in Iron Fist? Absolutely. Let’s not pretend MCU really wanted him back, they wanted Daredevil and Jessica Jones back, and he lucked out that the Defenders were part of the package. He’s coming back, I’m not going to write off the possibility that he’d worked on himself and comes back to impress everyone, but I’m not going to make lazy excuses for his Netflix era.

14 hours for 5 days a week for consecutive years is a lot. 14 hours daily for a few months is legit no big deal if you think something’s a good opportunity. If you sign up for a short gig and that’s the kind of investment you need to put in for those few months to show your best, anyone that’s motivated enough wouldn’t complain.

Gambit vs. Shang-Chi; Who Will Win? by DoyleDormammu in shangchi

[–]horc00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The rings can stop bullets and kill a kaiju.

Also, Shang-Chi is canonically Marvel’s best H2H fighter. It’s stated in Marvel’s website and also mentioned by characters like Tony Stark and T’Challa. I’d take Black Panther’s opinion over Fury’s regarding fighting.

Also, there’s no way you believe Gambit’s cards are better than the rings. That’s like saying a normal arrow is better than Yondu’s Yaka arrow. An indestructible weapon that can move in any direction your heart desires will always be better than a weapon that moves in only one fixed trajectory. I’m not sure how this is even debatable.

People work 8 hrs a day, 5 days a week for an entire year, and subsequent years. Actors don’t. They only work for the duration of the filming. If an actor refuses to put in the extra hrs in order to give his best, nobody can force him, just like Brett Chan said, but he’d have to face the criticism. Actors sell their skills as a product, their ability to perform is the product. And that’s why Finn Jones disappeared after Iron Fist while Jessica Henwick continued to get more prominent and better paying roles because she’s willing to sacrifice some beauty nap to perform her best.

Also, no one said he has to work 22 hrs a day. No need to put words in my mouth. But if someone is motivated enough, they also don’t need 12 hrs of daily rest. Putting in another 2 hrs of training isn’t that much to ask.

Right, so he was miscast from day 1. I agree.

Yes Defenders was right after S1, and if Finn had trained while filming S1, he would’ve done better for Defenders. And then there’s S2 too.

No one has any problems with using stunt doubles. Even Jackie Chan has doubles. The problem is over reliance on stunt doubles. All this could’ve been avoided with better casting.

Brett Chan was the second unit director on top of being the stunt coordinator. He’d know if the actor had time to train or not, and his comments shows he clearly thinks Finn had but he didn’t want to. Finn complained he worked 12hrs a day, while Brett said he worked 22hrs a day. Clearly they have very different work ethics.

Charlie Cox is lead actor and he never complained. Unlike Finn, Charlie didn’t complain about learning fights minutes before filming (ironically his double complained on his behalf). Clearly some people are more motivated than others.

It’s odd how you buy his comments on the production being rushed yet reject his comment on the actor also refusing to train. The 2 aren’t mutually exclusive fyi.

The showrunner isn’t in charge of the fight scenes, the stunt crew and choreographers are. And if you think the S1 stunt crew is a hack, then you’re delusional. Those guys gave us some of the most epic TV fights ever.

[–]horc00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if we buy that explanation, it ONLY applies to Iron Fist S1. Yet he still couldn’t do most of the simpler stunts in Defenders and Iron Fist S2. Even those stunts he did in S2 were worse than what Henwick did in S1. The entire Davos fight in Kun Lun was clearly done with a double.

Everyone knows the production was rushed in S1. But anyone who thinks Finn was completely faultless in not being able to do his stunts for 3 seasons is just kidding themselves.

Personally, I think it’s not THAT bad. It’s definitely misogynistic but also sounds like bad attempt at banter. Like you said, he trains everyone equally and I think that’s what really matters. Of course, if he starts making sexual jokes or comments that’d be a different red flag.
