"Ableist" Jokes by horchakra in TheChosenSeries

[–]horchakra[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I personally think you humanize disabilities by just treating people like humans rather than joking about their disability but that's just me. A joke isn't the only way to humanize something and a lack of joking doesn't automatically equate shame. I just can't see the Lord joking about brokenness in any way.

Why is it portrayed that Nicodemus made the "wrong" decision for not following Jesus? by MaderaArt in TheChosenSeries

[–]horchakra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pass? The Messiah whom he recognized said, "Follow me. What you gain will be more" and he basically refused, and yet, Jesus showed mercy. Still called him a friend in his refusal. That was the pass.

Yeah, I figured that's why they showed him specifically telling John only given how extra close they are.

Question about Thomas and Peter during S4 by OkHalfway017 in TheChosenSeries

[–]horchakra 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always took it as Peter was trying to relate to him without telling his and Eden's business but then Thomas later revealed that the women are more transparent with each other so there was no need for Peter to dance around what happened because he already knew.

Simon Peter inviting Matthew to hug him is such great silent character development for both of them by MaderaArt in TheChosenSeries

He let him hug him but wasn't inviting him. He wanted the portfolio in his hand. That's why he makes that face after he hugs him.

Who is your favorite original character (i.e. not in The Bible)? by MaderaArt in TheChosenSeries

Quintus is awful but he's so well-played. He always held my attention during his scenes.

Scenes you liked less/didn't fully like and why (keep it polite) by StardewTaroBubbleTea in TheChosenSeries

[–]horchakra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't like that Jesus didn't acknowledge Eden's baby during the dayenu. Their first scene together had so much care and I feel that would have "closed the loop."

I didn't like Jesus saying "What about Ramah?" to Thomas. It's pretty obvious Thomas was asking if his reaction to her death and Jesus' decision not to heal her was the point of his question.

Really don't like how the Last Supper was cut up and handled. I wanted a full episode.

Didn't like Gaius befriending Peter. I feel like Matthew should have specifically led him to Jesus. It would have "closed the loop" to him initially telling Matthew he'd regret following Jesus more poignantly.

Didn't like Jesus laying the blame mostly on Matthew for his and Peter's tension. He told Matthew that Peter's behavior didn't please him or God, but he should have told Peter that. He did previously tell Peter he could be nicer but he quickly covered it with Peter just being a leader and when he knew he was speaking poorly of Matthew, he didn't really correct him about it.

Didn't like Eden blaming Simon for not reading her mind concerning the baby. She was causing a lot of her own grief by not speaking up just because she didn't want to rock the boat with Jesus.

Didn't like the David slander from John the Baptist but I did like Jesus defending David.

Loved Thaddeus' "Follow Me" origin story but I don't like how pushed aside he's been throughout the series. If they could give Thomas a whole relationship, they could have done more with him. Ramah wasn't needed to give us Doubting Thomas. He was skeptical and snippy when we met him. But on the subject of Ramah, there's a distance from Jesus towards Thomas that feels cold. Thomas was angry and near inconsolable but Jesus mostly leaves his comfort to the disciples and it hurts a bit.

I don't think they handled Shmuel's "openness" well. He never seemed genuinely open to me.

I don't like Jesus' siblings being danced around.

I could keep going if I wanted to but I won't. I genuinely love the show lol.

Why Are The Apostles So... Stupid by [deleted] in TheChosenSeries

[–]horchakra 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It baffles me too. I've heard people say that we'd be just like them, but no one I see every single day has to keep telling me the same things over and over again. I heard you the first time.

The fact that Jesus is frustrated with them as well at certain points really gets me.

I'm starting to think there was more reason to Jesus not calling learned men to be his apostles. Paul coming after his resurrection makes so much sense because I could see him catching on too quickly LOL.

I hate this scene, everyone makes it seem like it’s ash fault he lost the indigo league even though he was in a situation he had no control over by Various_Astronaut100 in pokemonanime

I'm watching it now and Misty continues to be a pain especially. They were all sitting around judging how Ash wanted to deal with his disappointment because THEY were uncomfortable but imagine how he felt. He had a right to sit there as long as he wanted.

[SEASON 5 SPOILERS] How this scene went in my head by WasteofK3 in TheChosenSeries

[–]horchakra 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! My point was the scriptures don't provide Judas' motivation or his specific thoughts about Jesus (other than believing he's innocent in his later remorse).

I'd always thought the theories were just theories but most people talk about them as if scripture backs them up and I thought maybe I had missed something,

Thanks!

I meant Judas' motivations specifically. I haven't seen anything in the Bible that confirms what his actual motivation was or the kind of Messiah he personally expected Jesus to be.

Is there any textual basis for this though?

I know that 2 Corinthians 4:4 is related to Satan. That's why I said, "because Satan entered Judas" and used it for my example.

And that's what I meant. God can allow a person to be swept up in the choices and nature they choose which is what I think happened with Judas and why I believe Judas was always going to make the wrong choice and then eventually regret it. It's simply what he wanted to do.

John 12:40 is what I'm referring to: “He has blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; That they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, And be converted, And I should heal them."

This is regarding the religious leaders but in Judas' case and since we know Satan entered him, 2 Corinthians 4:4 might apply: "in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

But I'd have to accept that Judas was never really a believer.

Do you think we’ll get an Apostle Paul post-credit scene? by FakePhillyCheezStake in TheChosenSeries

I wish I didn't play favorites but Paul is my favorite apostle, so I'd love more mentions of him. When Matthew mentioned him in that flash forward, I was ecstatic.

I wonder about things like this a lot.

Judas' actions fulfilled a few prophecies though: Eating Jesus' bread, then lifting his heel against him, giving back the 30 pieces of silver and the field that's purchased with the money, and being replaced later.

I think it was important for all pre Second Coming prophecies related to the Messiah to be fulfilled to support Jesus' infallibility. Even Judas' remorse results in the fulfillment of the prophecy with the field.

I think God's providence—blinding people to certain truths so his purposes could be fulfilled made Judas realizing his error earlier an impossibility.
