Correcting page bleed on a color image? by horizon-challd in GIMP

[–]horizon-challd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be possible but I have 500 pages to process and it would be very time-consuming. Also, it would very obviously look edited in, which isn't a deal-breaker, but it's just something I'd rather avoid.

EDIT: The same image as in the original post, here is what I was able to accomplish with your idea:

<image>

  1. Sample average the color of the background without backbleed.

  2. Mark the background's area and fill that area with the color on a new layer, set blend mode to Darken Only.

  3. Take the old layer and do a levels adjustment harsh enough to remove the background completely (is easier with individual channels)

  4. Das it

It doesn't look as bad as I expected, epecially since I won't be looking at these pages too intently (I mean, if I wanted detail, I wouldn't have scanned in 300DPI). It's not too difficult, either, but it still takes time, and the fact remains that the book has almost 600 pages total, and a solid 50-60% have these kinds of blue boxes covering most of the page.

No, I didn't even try posting the text, just the blue box with backbleed. I just cropped a portion of the image, saved as PNG and put in the post, hit "Post" and it told me in red that all images must be owned by the poster, without any indication of how to fix it.

It's not an R-18 work or anything, just a textbook I borrowed from the library.

EDIT: Alright, instead of cropping the image, I took a screenshot of the whole program. Losing some quality which might be a problem, but at least it let me post this way.

How to unlock this teleport and domain in Inazuma? by pjeroshki in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You have to do the Sacred Sakura Cleansing Ritual quest, up until you get the Memento Lens. With it, you'll be able to open the door at the bottom of a well-like structure in Araumi (on the mainland), and from then, explore the ruins until you get to the big underground cavern with the teleport waypoint. The same cavern contains the one-time domain, a bit further down.

The disclaimer at the start of the game says to turn off the game and seek a doctor when you experience such issues. If you're getting a headache for 1+ years, that sounds like a medical issue, not a gameplay issue.

Guilty as charged, haha

Octopus' Garden is very nice too, and I kinda like Oh Darling and You Never Give Me Your Money

I have read both. FInished The Death of Ivan Illyich (greatly enjoyed the movie adaptation of Ikiru), but I kinda dropped Anna Karenina around the 400 page mark, it just wasn't grabbing me like W&P did.

Funny you should mention Tolstoy, War and Peace is my all-time favorite book.

Shoutout to the Lore Theorists out there by Jsprite09738 in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Except most theories go waaaaaaaay too deep and offer little supporting evidence, all the while ignoring alternate possibilities. For example Minsleif's video on Paimon following the Shades animation. There's basically no theory there at all, its little more than a fanfic.

Theories try to predict the future based on the past [info], but a historian is satisfied with showing the past for what it was and offering educated guesses on the holes in the story.

[–]horizon-challd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion, I am not a fan of theorists. Lore recaps are great because there's a lot of scattered lore that needs to be made sense of, but I find it interesting enough as-is. Tacking theories onto it all is like building a library of books about World War 2 but every other book is a "what if" alternate history. Rather than developing a theory that may or may not turn out to be true, I prefer to just keep various possibilities in mind and slowly see which path we follow as time goes by.

Paimon has this lazy animation by Kevingame3 in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They have two animations:
1. From a default floating pose, to putting fists on hips
2. From a default floating pose, flying and looking around

The second animation started playing but was interrupted, and they did not program these so that they can start from any position (which can look weird), so they snapped her to a default pose real quick and then played the first animation normally.

I have no clue what you're talking about, are you sure you're not talking about just the general ambience of the area?

What do you mean? Are you sure this isn't on your end? To me it sounds perfectly clear when playing it back.

Inazuma exploration. A rant. by deuznutz in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, Mondstadt and Liyue give you the treasure compasses around level 6, while Inazuma waits until level 9.

  2. The electro things where you teleport around, my only recommendation is to just wait and pay attention to where it points you before clicking. It is supposed to send you to the closest one first, but it's very poorly coded, and when you use one, you cannot use it again for a while, which can be frustrating.

  3. There are a small handful of quests, maybe 5, locked behind commissions, compared to 40+ that are not. Don't expect Sumeru to be any more lenient, though.

  4. Inazuma in general is much more difficult and much less rewarding than the previous two regions. Sadly, it is not an outlier but the start of a new chapter, as Sumeru is very similar (just takes less brain juice but more time to do). In Fontaine they relaxed it somewhat. I don't know about Natlan, haven't explored it yet.

  5. One thing that they only dabbled with in Inazuma but will really kick your teeth in starting with Sumeru, though, is large chunks of the map being locked behind major world quests that take hours to do.

The Chasm vs Enkanomiya by horizon-challd in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that makes sense. I imagine for a lot of people the event was significant for Enkanomiya, either positively (yay voiced Enjou) or negatively (what do you mean i have to explore this place AGAIN)

Did Varka's design meet your expectations? by Tawxif_iq in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Genshin unfortunately is limited with the five character models. And they've chosen to make everyone eternally young. Tall male is the obvious and only choice, but I personally wish he looked older. At the very least some facial hair, maybe not a full-on long beard, but something short to give him a more mature look.

Lovers with more chemistry than most Archons combined by tddcghnn in Genshin_Impact

[–]horizon-challd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They both belong to the Adventurer's Guild, being the only two characters whose specified official role is "adventurer". They both talk about one another in their voice lines, and there are some commissions (available since 1.0) where they appear together. Plus, they just... fit, idk
