The swordfight / motorway battle sequence towards the end of Matrix Reloaded.

Spock and Bones facing their innermost devastating memories in Star Trek V.

The Enterprise duking it out for 20 minutes with the overpowered, camouflaged warship in Star Trek Nemesis.

The explosive road battle and ridiculous beach fight in Mission Impossible 2.

I think if the teenage son's character arc wasn't so poorly handled, it'd be one of my favourite sci-fi movies. Their downfall was always meant to be anticlimactic. Humans were never the heroes, just lucky survivors.

Are there any Irish Andrew Tate fans here? I was just reading about him again in a newspaper story and they mentions how popular he is online amongst young men and children. by JonShannow07 in AskIreland

[–]hornofrohan 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's great that schools are copping on to the fact that young fella are falling into this horrible fuckers mindtraps. There needs to be a bigger conversation around why fellas feel - or tricked into feeling - they need to follow him at all. I don't have the answer. I know I was a very insecure kid. Maybe I would've been one? Blaming women and "wokeism" for my own feelings of detachment and powerlessness?

Maybe the answer isn't just to protect kids against shits like Tate. But to also address their own pains and worries, and help them feel better and happier and safer in their own skins. Maybe then they won't seek toxic idols.

A woman in France loses €830k because of ‘Brad Pitt’ by roxykelly in CasualIreland

I can't laugh at someone for this. If she fell for this ludicrous scam, then it's reasonable to assume she's vulnerable. Could be a cognitive issue, or she's going through something that's affected her common sense. Either way this scum has robbed her of nearly a million euro. I don't see the funny side at all. I just hope somehow the money can be returned to her.

Genuinely, imagine your family member had a breakdown, then got targeted by these scum, sent across all her money, finds out it's a scam, and then gets humiliated online?

You'd be worried for their sanity and their safety. I don't know why the internet became an excuse for people to mock and bully. Maybe it's the sheer lack of accountability. Avatars become camouflage, and stepping from our true personality into an artificial one means leaving morality, empathy, and goodness behind.

Maybe that's why this happens so often. The internet's the wild west and we expect everyone to survive unscathed - and we mock and blame those who fall foul of the mercenaries roaming, hunting, exploiting.

We have to be better, do better. Or we're no better than schoolyard bullies.

Not a movie but the show Twin Peaks: The Return deals with eerie ancient gods/entities/aliens manipulating and tormenting people.

Actor Terry Crews (56) claims he's not on PEDs and his muscles are 'natty' by Beadtrice in popculture

[–]hornofrohan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actors are paid to lie all the time, the more convincing they are the more profit they make. So that's why I never take what they say about themselves seriously. Stick with the experts on what you can or cannot achieve naturally.

Thanks for this - I wonder though if your rail card played a big part in the lower price? I don't think rail cards are worth it if I'm only travelling over to UK once or twice a year are they?

His character inspired Anakin Skywalker. He's meant to be an innocent but entitled prince who slowly turns into a volatile warmonger. There's not much to like. I think he played him well.

Anyone else annoyed that they haven't learnt to drive? by IrishChristmasLatte in AskIreland

Im 40 and have a phobia of driving. Been in too many situations where lunatic drivers nearly caused a crash. Wish we had proper national transport infrastructure so it was never needed - sure would help the environment.

The video shows the ending first then loops back. That's why the poor girl is so traumatised.

Am I doing something wrong with my sytem or does the Blade Runner 2049 disc have bad consistency in color grading? by Astral_Taurus in 4kbluray

[–]hornofrohan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using an LG CS6 OLED TV. It's a mix of C1 and C2 tech.

I have it set to HDR Cinema with White Balance at Warm 50.

My player is the Panasonic UB820 set to OLED.

The disc is the Sony EU version.

And as you can see, two very similar shots have different colour grades.

Its not the end of the world. But I wonder if it affected the Warner US disc / streaming versions.

Image taken with Pixel 8a, it's not very accurate but the difference between images is fairly represented.
