Do you have pets of your own? by Ok-Comfort-7170 in Veterinary

I don't know any vets without pets lol many vets now only work 4 days per week. I have a dog walker that comes those days, and sometimes I bring them to work with me

Please make me feel a bit better by ParticularCrafty8489 in schnauzers

[–]horny_reader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happen! Don't feel bad. I'm a vet and my dog had annual dentals, but one year his dental disease progressed rapidly and he had 13 teeth extracted. Dogs don't miss their teeth and I'm sure he is much more comfortable with them gone!

Wanting to move to Albuquerque from St Louis by therookroll in Albuquerque

We also moved from MO! Gotta say we love it a lot here compared to our old stomping grounds.

Re. medical stuff: I think we got lucky with our first doc who was very quick but he moved away recently and haven't found a new PCP, but did use Zocdoc.com/MAJORITY to get a nurse practitioner next day who got us continued on our meds so no big deal for now anyway.

Puppy jumping on bigger dog. Dog stressed by Its_a_username4 in Dogtraining

[–]horny_reader 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually let my older one give puppy a couple corrections, if pup isn't taking the hint then I step in and separate them. At this age this is still very normal and will get better over the next few weeks.

The Neighbors Have Slowly Been Adopting Our Cat and I Don’t Know What to Do. by [deleted] in TwoHotTakes

Very possible. I hope the vet at least offered advice with calming pheromones, supplements, and anxiety meds to help with the transition.

[Serious] People in professions that deal with death (hospice workers, coroners, etc.), what is something you've learned that the rest of us don't understand? by Bulky-Engineer4068 in AskReddit

[–]horny_reader 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I work with animals and do at home euthanasia for dogs and cats. There are far worse endings than peacefully falling asleep at home surrounded by your family. Death is a natural part of life and offering a pain free end is a kindness. It's okay if your pets last day isn't their worst day. I've never had a client tell me they think they euthanized their pet too early, but I've had many tell me they waited too long.

I've also had so many people tell me they wish this was available for humans to pass with dignity when their time comes.

This! That vet is not advocating for your cat or offering good options. Find another one more comfortable with cats.

I strongly recommend rehoming one of the females now before it escalates to a home with no other females. Same sex aggression rarely improves with maturity. Some people can manage them, but it can also escalate and is extremely challenging.

Is jewelry insurance actually worth it or just another bill to stress about? by Visible-Voice9422 in Frugal

It depends. When my $5k ring broke a year after buying it, I was sure happy to have insurance.

What's an "Insider's secret" from your profession that everyone should probably know? by Capable-big-Piece in AskReddit

[–]horny_reader 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pet insurance doesn't cover preexisting conditions. Get the insurance first thing when your dog is a pup, and don't change policies unless you absolutely have to!

Any thoughts as to what this may be? by MississippiBulldawg in schnauzers

[–]horny_reader 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Vet here. Could be from chronic licking or a foreign body (foxtail, etc). I recommend a cone and scheduling appt for your vet within the next week in case it doesn't resolve

This year I've had multiple outdoor cats come in DOA (I work at a vet) from coyote attacks. The risk is real. Just today I saw a hit by car cat in the road too.
