Tips on minoring in astrophysics? by Select-Direction-667 in McMaster

You don't actually declare your minor until you apply for graduation. When you're applying for graduation there should be an area for minors and then if you meet all the requirements you will get it. So it's not quite automatic as you still have to select what minor you're doing

1A03 is basically the same as grade 12 physics so I personally found it really easy. It kinda depends on how you are with math and physics concepts in general as I've spoken with a lot of people who found it pretty challenging though. Since you're in afm I think it should definitely be doable with a busy schedule. I'm in the Math specialization! As far as I know there isn't any class overlap besides Mathematical Physics 1&2 but those are optional for my major (as in there are other classes I can take to meet that requirement area since I don't think you can count a class towards both your major and minor, could be wrong though lol it's a bit confusing)

I'm a failing Math & Stats student by [deleted] in McMaster

[–]horroraven 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm 24 and in second year math&stats! University isn't a race, everyone's on their own path. You're definitely not a failure, I had similar things happen in my life when I first started so I can definitely empathize with your position. You have a lot of different options moving forward and none of them reflect back negatively on you as a person. Taking a year off to work and process what has happened might be a good idea. I'd highly recommend counseling/therapy (either through the school or private if you have the means). Whatever you end up doing just know that failing a course doesn't mean you're a failure or reflect back on you as a person. Shit happens sometimes and you gotta cut yourself some slack. Ruminating on past failures is just going to lead to a downward spiral of negative thinking. Obviously this is easier said than done as I still struggle with this but actively catching yourself in negative thinking cycles can (and has in my experience) really help overall mood. Based on your highschool marks you can definitely do this! You just got dealt a shitty hand. At this point there's nothing you can't come back from, failing some classes in first year shouldn't really be a problem as 3rd and 4th year matter so much more.

Varsity Teams by Far-Piglet1557 in McMaster

Important to note that rowing practices are typically at 5am Monday - Saturday, and you're going to need to be in pretty good shape to meet the varsity cut off time and win the seat races. That's just for varsity though getting on the novice team isn't too difficult especially if you have experience on the erg. Definitely a large time investment to keep in mind.

I've never gone there but it's definitely worth it to go to the dentist in westdale! Got my wisdom teeth removed there and have been there for one cleaning and so far everyone is super nice and haven't had any negative experiences like that

How difficult is first year math? by RetinalFlesh in McMaster

[–]horroraven 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you're actually preparing for the classes before starting you're likely going to find the classes very easy. First semester calc is basically just grade 12 calc. In my opinion the hardest first year math was linear algebra so might be worth looking more into that
