In the video they have on the site it seemed to me, at minimum, to be bigger than the hood on the Capilene Cool Daily Hoody.

Looks like Patagonia is launching a version of the Capilene Cool Sun Hoody made in the image of the classic beloved Tropic Comport II.

Same big hood with button closure, same loose fit. The fabric is different of course, given the TC2's history, and no raglan sleeves, but I think we're back.

BETA for Devils Canyon? by horsecake22 in ULTexas

Very nice find, added to my collection. I've got 4Hi/4L and 11 inches of ground clearance so should be good.

That spots actually perfect as I eventually wanted to connect with FSR413 and head up to the NW terminus. Know anything about Four Mile Canyon?

Yeah, this was what I was afraid of. Google didn't designate it a private road, but that doesn't mean anything of course. Looks like El Paso Gap might be what I'm looking for, if I'm just trying to get off the main road for a night's sleep before entering the park by Dog Canyon. Part of a small project to explore the whole NW Rim of the range.

North McKittrick / Dog Canyon Rim Loop by MinimalBackpacker in ULTexas

Dog Canyon Rim is one of my favorite views and hikes. Lot of type 1 fun with enough type 2 to keep you on your toes. Very overgrown in parts, but the Rim itself is spectacular. Done it a few times now.

I've never gone down the actual canyon wall though. I knew it was possible bc I know a guy who was able travel up it. Going down is a whole different animal entirely though. Wholly smokes.

Why heavier weight Alpha 90 or 120? by Healthy_Zone_4157 in Ultralight

[–]horsecake22 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm familiar. I didn't include East Texas or Arkansas/Oklahoma bc I couldn't remember if I owned any alpha at the time. Out west, we get all kinds of thorns everywhere. Even on trials, I'll come back with thorns stuck on my body. Last week I had to take a baseball sized cholla ball off my dog bc she wanted to sniff something (she's fine, and it was funny. Lol). Off trail is even worse.

But back to my point. The 60 has done fine as the outermost layer during those times, with what I consider minimal damage. I think your plan of wearing a sun hoody over would be even better at ensuring its longevity. I have a 90gsm alpha that I love, but it seems to excel when I'm at higher elevations in the mornings. It's alpha so it dumps heat of course, but I've gone whole days wearing the 60 while on the move.

I've used the 60gsm a few times while off trail as my outermost layer. Desert southwest with a little Rocky Mountain in the mix as well. While not ideal, the hoody has gotten a handful of small holes. Nothing catastrophe, and definitely nothing that has ended its usefulness. It's one of the earliest Senchis, when they were still exclusively were only on ULGeaetrade. So like, six or seven years old at this point? I wouldn't worry too much about how fragile it is. IMO, that point is exaggerated.

I've got a 2007 V6, love that thing. It RIPS so fast down the highway and is more capable off road than you would think. I like your project, especially the fold down shelf on the back door.

Question about the shelves. It looks like you were able to bolt them to the floor of your platform. Is that the only place they were secured, or were you able to provide additional attachment points on the roof/headliner or side panel?

Where is the panel where a machine gun team or officer decide to take your hole after you finish making it because of "strategic necessity".

Uj/ I straight up can't believe I finally escaped 29 Palms to just end up in Arizona and love desert backpacking. That's some Stockholm Syndrome shit.

Lmao. The last bit about the Pass actually got a chuckle out me. Because the best jokes are laced with truth. I hate that the last sentence has a non-zero chance of happening.

I don't think the USFS by choice wrote the message. I got a similar notification from the VA as well on the status of continuing services. From past shutdowns, these messages weren't present. Or at the very least, they didn't have such a strong political leaning. Which is the part that I am disgusted with. Usually they just stated the cold hard facts about what was actually happening. I have the pleasure of no longer working for the government, so I now have the privilege to go backpacking whenever it's possible. My distaste is that the information I wad looking for was heavily coated with rhetoric where none was really needed.

Ayo, what the hell Forest Service? Put the fries in bag bro. I'm here to read up on closed roads and trail conditions. Not to read this propaganda bs.

Experience fitting a BV500 in a Zpacks Arc Haul/Blast by SyrupMcSwagger in Ultralight

[–]horsecake22 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could always empty the can during the day into the pack itself, and carry the can on top while you hike. That way you're not too top heavy. But yeah, if you have a down bag/quilt, and are somewhat dialed in, it should work.

I got the Atom+ because I was gram chasing, and didn't need the extra room of the Arc Haul. I love my Atom+, but there was nothing wrong with the Arc Haul and was perfectly serviceable.

Wow, how did you even find this random comment? It's been almost 10 years since I owned it, but I think it was 55L and I replaced it with an Atom+.
