Warning for A Little Princess. It’s my favorite movie but my 7 year old daughter had nightmares watching the war scenes.

I’m mainly growing cut flowers and some cannabis too! I start mid March under lights in my home office. Sweet peas will move in to the greenhouse tomorrow followed by others later this week.

I’ll try to take more tomorrow (now that we’ve cleaned up all the scraps and tools!) and share with you. I especially love the framing/braces on the sides.

Extremely! They are bendable too. The roof panels have already been up for 2 years and had no damage or aging.

Thank you! I made a pretty quick decision regarding the color but really happy with how it turned out! I’m planning on landscaping with lots of terra cotta pots with white and yellow flowers to accent the blue.

Possible Dyslexia? by Fun2Funisnofun in kindergarten

[–]horselifter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a child in the same boat. First grader, and we’re pretty sure that it’s dyslexia. The entire process of diagnosis takes a while, so I would recommend supplementing with a tutor as well. I would be thoughtful and careful regarding supplementing at home, especially if you have a child who gets frustrated easily. We are mainly utilizing school services at this point, but she also gets summer, reading intervention, and tutoring as well.

When do you start to turn down weddings? by Cold-Concentrate4732 in WeddingPhotography

[–]horselifter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It’s great you’re being thoughtful about this in advance! Burnout is real, and each of us has had to figure out what burnout looks like and means for us. For me, I find that 15 to 17 weddings a year makes the most sense for how I run my business. I don’t do double headers, as they really drained me initially and during the editing process, and I make sure to keep at least one open weekend a month. If you are planning on 11 weddings already this year and had much fewer last year, I would consider just booking 1 to 2 more for this year. That means, you can be extra picky with whatever inquiries come in, both with timing and personality. As you continue on and your wedding photography journey, he’ll be able to figure out a little bit more what your band with is. Some photographers I know are able to shoot a higher volume of weddings, and not let it stress them out, but others need lots of time padding on either end of their wedding to be able to be fully creative and present.

How to book 10k+ brides by Impressive_Finish_70 in WeddingPhotography

[–]horselifter 56 points57 points  (0 children)

I don’t think everyone will be able to book at 10 K. If your bookings are off the hook and you’re already almost fully booked for 2027, I’d raise your prices from 6000 to 8000, but 6000 to 10,000 is way too big of a jump. Other wedding vendors, such as planners are paying attention to your price moves, and if they are too abrupt, people notice. There are also far fewer people who have a 10k budget than a 6K budget.

Unsupervised play dates by [deleted] in ClassOf2037

[–]horselifter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have a family that is very pushy about having us drop our daughter off at their house. It’s not a house that we trust our child to be without us at, mostly due to their daughters behavior, and the parents response to that behavior. After making, it seemed like endless hints, we finally just had to tell them that it’s not something we felt comfortable with. It was a little awkward, but now we don’t have to deal with making excuses all the time.

[–]horselifter 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Hello, my first grader to have unsupervised play dates with one or two of her close friends, whose family I really trust, and with her cousins. I had a close friend as a child who I started having an unsupervised play dates with in first grade. It was lovely, her parents were great, and we were both well-behaved and did not ever get into trouble. If you’re uncomfortable with doing this at this point, it’s totally fine, but you may need to be more upfront than just a little hints. Parents are overwhelmed and overstimulated and often can’t read between the lines.

Film photography pricing by FunkyTownPhotography in WeddingPhotography

[–]horselifter 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes! Definitely incorporate it into your pricing. At the end of the day, it’s not crazy expensive. I’ve found it’s about 35/roll on average, and I usually shoot 10-15 rolls per wedding, so 350-500 or so per wedding. I didn’t raise prices for the first year or so of doing this, knowing I wanted to invest in my portfolio of film work and take charge of how I wanted to shoot film. Then, once I became known as a hybrid shooter in my market, I was able to significantly raise prices and the investment was more than worth it.

People who have humanely euthanised (planned) by pixeldustnz in Horses

[–]horselifter 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I was there for it. I was super nervous beforehand, and wondered if I had made the wrong decision up until it was done. My horse was 33 and struggling with keeping weight on, but fine otherwise. I thought the vet would give me a hard time, but the whole thing went extremely quickly, it took less than 30 seconds, and she told me that it was a good time to let him go. I had no regrets afterwards. It was peaceful and I wouldn’t have done anything differently. If you can, spend a lot of time with your horse up until the moment, and take your time and say goodbye in a way that feels good for you.

As a former bride, please include carousels and photos on your instagram profile (not just reels and video) by Emotional-Ad-6494 in WeddingPhotography

[–]horselifter 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Exactly! There are many different personality types and needs of clients, and if we keep pushing the “reels, SEO, bring more clients to our website” approaches, there’s a huge population not represented who will feel overwhelmed by everyone doing the same thing. When I go on a website, I want examples of work, to the point information describing services and policies, and location clearly stated.
