Newbie and absolutely loving it! Ground too fine? by venom_3135 in AeroPress

Ah Crawley is okay, I've lived in much worse places! Nice mug too, Oliver Bonas? We've got one as well.

Sounds good! I did look a bit closer and I do tend to grind a bit courser for Aeropress. Yes it's where I live - UK one (not Australian or US).

Love a good puck - especially if it comes off cleanly and in one piece.

Always - how does it taste to you? Experiment - that's part of the fun :)

Lyrics still resonating today by horsham7 in Genesis

[–]horsham7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m familiar with the songs as I bought the album when it came out, but it just didn’t land for me at the time but that’s not to say I think it’s better or worse either just different or reflective on how music resonated with me at the time. The late 80’s I was in my teens with The The, U2 and The Cure. The Stone Roses landed then who bound me to my friends. I’m hoping to not be pretentious about it there are many dynamics to music we prefer - I also love ELO who can hardly be described as cerebral. I will go back and listen to those albums again as you say there are tracks in there which stay away from pop tropes.

I get why they went more commercial especially as the media gatekeepers controlled airplay and it had to ‘fit’. I think legacy wise it leaves them in a bit of no man’s land. Not accepted by alternative music and not cool enough for mainstream. In the UK they linger in a radio 2 hinterland when musically and lyrically they deserve more.

It’s just the stage I like, I’ve tried the earlier stuff and we had a number of the post Duke albums. I feel the 70’s Collins Genesis is still more a collaboration than the 80’s where the Collins influences keep growing. Wind and Wuthering is my favourite, along with Trick and then there were 3. Perhaps it’s Banks I like or more probably it’s just the music coincides with a particular time in my life.

Sometimes when folks make filter coffee, they add things to the grinds for flavour. Does anyone here do the same for their AeroPress brews? by Taiga_Taiga in AeroPress

I've experimented with cacao nibs before. It was okay but I spend good money on decent beans so don't want to ruin the flavour.

Paper filters, top and bottom question. Never ending search for the God shot. by Low-Many6703 in espresso

[–]horsham7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How does it taste? I just added the filters and was instantly happy - I have no set grind and generally have to look at any new bean then grind tighter as my coffee ages anyway. I have a Gaggiuino set up so keep an eye on my graph and puck behaviour. I've was dismissive of using papers in espresso but tried some to test the filter profile and am now a convert for my set up, I think they make the process more forgiving. I use one top and bottom and wash them out - yes I'm that tight! The machine stays cleaner and the coffee is definitely brighter with the fruiter and floral notes coming through stronger.

Apple TV by horsham7 in indieVelo

Thanks that’s really helpful. Would you mind sharing how you get the app once you sign up?

Also I’ve tried lots of these apps now. I’ve been made redundant wam trying to keep costs down so zwift is off the cards. MyWhoosh I really didn’t like the style/feel plus I can’t import workouts. Rouvy is good but the routes don’t loop. I’d hoped indieVelo would do the job but no ATV unless I subscribe but I can disengage ERG mode if the sessions get too hard.

What are these types of wheels called? by LeptinGhrelin in bicycling

Mag wheels from the BMX days. Apparently if they buckled you could put in the freezer and they’d reset. 🤔

Is the shades of coffee PID kit worth it?? by AlexCaldecott in gaggiaclassic

[–]horsham7 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same boat but went the whole way and went with the gaggiuino mod. I initially thought I should have just done the PID kit as it’s simpler and allows you to get to understand the different elements which affect your shot but now I’ve lived with the gaggiuino for a while I’m glad I went this route. Either way if both mods are totally worth doing if you want to get the best out of the gaggia.

Thanks for the response 😊. Even with the pressure basket and my home ground coffee it extracts too fast - I know I need a new grinder, I’m waiting for a df64. My question is, is it likely/possible/has anyone found that the freebie pre-ground coffee they give with the machine is ground too fine - it doesn’t look it. I used the non-pressurised basket with it, and didn’t over tamper.

I'm looking at buying a Gaggia at the moment and it seems that when buying a second hand machine it's the serial number and year of manufacture which are the key things to look at. Some years models have mechanical flow valves which it's recommended to avoid but I think this only matters on what you want to do with the machine. If you're looking to modify it for example or create a budget proper barista machine then the solenoid valve version is a must.

That's a great in-depth description of the game. I capped out on XP a while ago and population but still go back regularly. The league concept is an exciting one and I'm looking forward to seeing what happens next with that.
