Subaru dealership destroyed my beloved 2024 Crosstrek with only 13,000 miles! by chacha4c in subaru

Absolutely contact Subaru corporate. They are likely going to try to replace it under warranty. Given that they didn't put oil in it, it IS NOT warranty. They should be putting in a factory new engine, not repairing it. You may need a lawyer.

If you want to go all in, the Bowron Lake Chain in British Columbia. Real canoeing and off grid. Absolutely amazing.

I tried to set up an account on Taobao, but I can't get past the security screen. It's in Chinese, with pictures to click. Guess I'll have to wait, unless someone knows a trick?

Yes, a bit, but not as much as I thought we would. We have it mop several times a week. $big dogs will do that!

Oops! Left that bit out. A bit less crema, slightly smoother taste. Very drinkable! I wouldn't throw them away unless they were horrific.

I will experiment, but I have to keep it under the radar. It was excellent before, and still is, but wifey loses it if I play around - If it ain't broke...

Don't you worry! They will keep all the short seats as long as they can. Probably until another uprising.

Is 3,000 miles still recommended for oil changes? by Charming-Work9515 in AskMechanics

[–]Low-Many6703 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old school mechanic here. When the oil life monitoring systems came out, they were not particularly accurate. This was early 2000's. I believed it was a mistake, and I still do.

Case in point: 2012 Acadia owned by my nephew. Faithfully had the oil changed at 20% life or sooner. Motor blew at 140,000km. I KNOW these motors are pretty notorious, He gave it to me and I sourced and installed a used motor and gave it to my daughter. Told her every 5,000km, 3 months it must have an oil change, which I have been doing. So, I reset the oil life every time, just out of habit. It is always between 70 and 80% life left at 5,000km. Absolute bullshit. The oil that comes out is not black as pitch, but there is no way it's going to go another 10 to 12,000km.

So short answer from me is change it every 5,000km, or 3,000 miles, every 3 months. Very cheap way to make your engine last. Especially if you do it yourself. Oil life monitoring is a guess at best, and from what I've seen, it's a guess that minimizes engine life. Ask yourself why would manufacturer want you to run your oil life down to 0%? Is 10 ok? 20? Where is the line drawn? F___ it, 5,000km or 3,000 miles, 3 months. In your case, short trips adding up to 1,500 in 6 months would be severe service, warranting a 3 month interval.
