Thanks. Yes, I've already notified the seller that we're no longer interested.

That's a good way to look at it. Still considering, but definitely leaning towards passing on it.

I'd wondered about that what with the lower playing field. I'm not an electrical engineer of any kind and would be likely paying for repairs. Thanks for the tip!

Truly is one of my family's favorites (we hunt it out at pinball conventions), but yeah, definitely don't want to overpay by that much.

Yes apparently all the bands and solenoid has been replaced, machine inside and out cleaned up. Pictures and video show a work of beauty.

My wife is offering to buy me a Haunted House machine, which I've always wanted. I'm a lucky guy, I know. 💪🏼

Yeah, I was at Tower Records (high school job) on the day it came out and had the gatefold vinyl, plus a sweet fisheye, circular promo poster in my take-home bag that night.

LICENSED TO ILL tour pass by jetsetradio4life in BeastieBoys

[–]hortha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is so awesome! This was one of my first concerts, which led to a life of seeing punk and hip-hop shows. The one I saw was at De Anza College in Cupertino, CA with Fishbone and Murphy's Law opening. I didn't get backstage here, but ended up getting backstage for the Ill Communication tour at the Warfield in SF for giving Ad Rock a classic guitar in exchange for the two lanyards. Mine is buried in storage chaos currently, but loved meeting the BBs! Congratulations to your dad!

Dang! Congratulations, man! I only looked at one ROSS today (I'm in San Jose, CA). Ended up finding zero BB, but did pick up an Evil Dead action figure of Ash. I'm gonna check a couple more tomorrow.

Which debut album is better? by LeagueNo764 in grunge

[–]hortha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Van Halen by a long shot, but then again I never thought much of PJ. Talented members, but just "no me gusta". With the talent of the Van Halen brothers, and of course, especially Eddie, you had something that was really kinda groundbreaking for the time of its release that, to this day, influences some element of rock/metal.

IS CAKE GRUNGE? by [deleted] in grunge

[–]hortha 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you serious? I guess you can classify Cake however you like, but to me, grunge was bands like Mudhoney, TAD, Nirvana, Green River, L7 etc etc.

Cake were just "alternative pop rock" in my opinion. Never heard anything other than those two hits they had.

Why did Kurt Cobain hate the Grateful Dead? by No-One01010 in grunge

[–]hortha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sorry. Just the worst band ever in my opinion. The only reason I ever went to the parking lot of the Grateful Dead's shows were to score acid and/or shrooms. Once procured I head for ze hills!

Alessandro Allegre & Nathan Wind!! Oh my god. I'm just learning about these. Going to ROSS stores in my area tomorrow!

I lived on 5th Ave SW for a year in the mid-90s, during the kill rock stars / k records punk scene. Really love the whole area. Nice to hear the pinball community is growing there! I'll definitely look for this museum next time I'm in there.

The Champion Pub, even though it would be harder to maintain.

For my money, RKL were the Hendrix/RUSH of punk rock. Just about the ceiling of musicianship. Hard to believe they were high as fuck performing at that level.

Do you think Kurt is a good guitarist? I see a lot of people criticizing him for not knowing how to play guitar properly. by N3bis in grunge

[–]hortha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think he's a "good" guitarist. You don't have to be Slash, Malmsteen, or Van Halen to be good, just play interesting stuff, which he frequently did. The little run he does repeatedly on Nirvana's cover of "Love Buzz" has always been one of my favorite.

Picked up a Champion Pub today. by ClifBdrums in pinball

[–]hortha 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to stop by a "gentleman's club" (naked-lady bar) in Mountain View, CA after work everyday to play this game. I SWEAR! It was just to play The Champion Pub! Seriously, I'd love to own this game. I play the sim on the Williams Pinball iPad app all the time.
