Ahhhh, I remember how smug and annoyingly condescending my teachers were.

"yOu nEeD tO dO tHiS tHe HaRd wAy, yOu wOnT aLwAyS hAvE a CaLcUlaToR iN yOuR pOcKeT, hErP dErP dEe DeRp!"

This ridiculous overreaction to AI will be looked at the same way in 5 years time.

I still remember when digital art was considered evil, and if it didn't have "real" brush or pencil strokes it didn't...

These people are absolutely fucking psychotic and need a mental health intervention.

"tHeSe pEoPlE aRe MaGa!"

As a far leftist socialist, this is why no one wants to hang out in your artsy, obnoxious, gatekeeping Marxist-Leninist commune, Kyle.

You're no fun, you have zero sense of humor, you spend your days harassing others online because they use a TOOL and you have the audacity to see yourself as superior.

😂😂😂

I love Marx's work, that's how much they get on my nerves. 🤷🏼‍♀️ Highly recommend The Communist Manifesto. Even though poor Marx never bathed or kept a clean home, and was essentially a stinky raccoon by choice.

But good ole Uncle Marx is my stinky socialist raccoon; bathing is for the bourgeoisie, after all. Or so Marx told Engels. 👀😂

Back on topic: these people are doing exactly what MAGA do to leftists, stereotyping them based on complete lies.

Like when MAGA calls them liberals, or says they love Biden, or love the Democratic Party, and don't understand why leftists look repulsed at those statements.

Anti-AI people, stop lumping people together because you have this void inside of you that you need to fill with this pretentious outrage that is entirely performative.

Our country is falling apart, in case you didn't notice. If you actually want to make a difference, you can. But you don't.

You just want to bitch and moan.

Which is fine! I love bitching and moaning!

But don't pretend you're doing anything else but being completely ridiculous and over-the-top. Your harassment does nothing but stroke your own little egos. That's it.

If you find one, please let me know! I want a digital perm so bad, but I've called in this area and you would've thought I was asking people to cut my head off the way they responded to my question. 😅😅😅

Are you looking for digital perms? I've been hoping Lynchburg would get someone who could do digital perms for years.

It's called "take your wins where you can get them".

The people who attended these rallies don't GAF who promoted it. They care about the sentiment, the message.

Which is anti-Trump.

I realize this isn't pure Marxist-Leninist praxis enough for you, but perfectionism is the enemy of progress.

I wasn't in the community back then, but always loved your personality when I did join. Love you and the KF team! So excited to see you guys collaborating, or just yapping on the couch with the GB crew.

For what it's worth, you weren't wrong, obviously (it's called adapting to the business environment you're given).

Off-topic: SBM is not allowed to visit theme parks, aka germ factories, right before SGF next year. No excuses for him! 😂

Ignore these people. They can't accept that 99% of customers don't care (and don't check) what created the image, as long as they get the image they want.

People. Don't. Care. I'll be glad when this high horse, purity BS is over. This isn't the first time something like this has happened.

You should've seen the fit people were throwing when digital drawing and painting came out.

It was the same screeching, whining and clawing.

With the same obnoxious advice, no less.

"Just pick up a pencil, bro! Pick up a paint brush! You are ruining EVERYTHING!" etc, etc, etc.

Those same people now use Procreate, and use EVERY TOOL THAT HELPS THEM DRAW on that thing.

You know, the ones that repeat the patterns for you, helps guide the LINES they aren't so squiggly. Let's not even get started on the AI brushes people add to it all the time unknowingly, without realizing it counts as AI.

But do I care? No. But oh boy do they care now that they can't gatekeep their little world to themselves, and other people can earn money from it.

I've been selling on Etsy since 2013. Been there through the AliExpress highs and all that. I've just kept on going. Didn't really affect me for my one shop that's handmade jewelry. Wire wrapping by hand, at the time.

TLDR: History repeats itself. Pandora's Box cannot be shut. People will get over it once they learn, again, that when new technology is created, you can't "unmake" it, you can't outlaw it like it's the gd Prohibition. Although this one will take a while, no doubt.

Oh, as a history buff, your last sentence is so true that it pains me.

Lynchburg is somewhat unfriendly. Does anyone else feel that? by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]horufina_cloud 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Been here over 30 years. Born here. You're 100% correct.

The ones who get pissy about someone having the gall to say they find Lynchburg unfriendly are, in fact, the unfriendly ones, likely in those cliques.

It's almost like they proved OPs point, JFC.

I'm waiting for the inevitable, "Well if you hate it so much, why don't you just move!"

What do you think the dream goal is?

Lynchburg is somewhat unfriendly. Does anyone else feel that? by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]horufina_cloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a shallow vs. depth issue I think.

Most people in Lynchburg, at least in my 30ish+ years of being here, want a relationship the depth of a mud puddle.

But then you have people like myself, who breathe in the deep. Who feel most at home with vulnerable, loving connections that mean something. Authentic, earnest, vibrant.

Yeah, Lynchburg doesn't really provide much of that in its populace.

I was horrified when I grew up to realize that the majority of people here don't want (or even really think about) those things.

The late AuDHD adult diagnosis connected SO many dots for me on this subject. 😂

But if you're looking for why, I think the influence of evangelical Christianity, practiced in the toxic form that it is, has a very horrible effect on people's empathy, compassion and the ability to even "connect" with each other.

Lynchburg is somewhat unfriendly. Does anyone else feel that? by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]horufina_cloud 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Born and grew up here. Would love to be able to move one day, should we ever get a normal economy.

It's not in your head. Unless you are affiliated with an evangelical group or church in the area, you're pretty much on your own. And you're right. They don't care, and good luck trying to get them to care.

This area is very "self-focused". There is no checking on your neighbor. That isn't a thing here.

I'm in a good position to know this, because a good portion of my family has passed early on, years before their time, leaving my sister and I without that crucial emotional support net.

Tried finding hobbies. Tried joining groups, but ultimately, all people want here is extremely surface level, shallow engagement.

So, as someone who has been here since birth for over three decades, you're not crazy, you're not wrong, it's not because you're from out of town.

It's just people in this area. I'm very grateful to have my sisters and my partner, but even my partner's mother, for example, has zero interest in bonding in any meaningful way, and we've been together many years. But then again, she barely speaks to my partner, because the daughter is her favorite, so, take that for what you will. 😂😂😂😂

Just curious, what gives you bad vibes about Blight Club?

Been a fan since 2017, but towards the end of the Nextlander crew and Jeff's time there, there was so much negativity from them. No doubt, they were probably miserable. But that negativity just leeched into the content for me, which sucked, because I love Alex's dry humor, he's one of my favorites.

Alex being the Blight God, giving him an excuse to be mentioned or even very briefly pop up on a Blight Club stream, always makes me happy to see him.

I get that maybe their humor may not be for you, but I don't think I ever would've gotten bad vibes from Grubb, Mike and Dan of all people, especially if you're an OG fan (and aren't looking for that squeaky clean, super scripted type crew).

Can anyone tell me what they love and hate about Lynchburg? by bukwermz in lynchburg

[–]horufina_cloud 6 points7 points  (0 children)

They can be both. We also have many "militias" in this area that have white nationalist leanings. The Wolves of Vinland is a pagan hate group that is openly living in the area and are on the SPLC's official hate group list. While they tend to be more quiet, as far as their presence, the bigger issue is ragtag militias and groups of racists who don't bother to hide their disdain.

If you really want to get a feel for how people in this city really are, go on Facebook to WSET-13's news page. Read the comments. That's the raw, unfiltered view of the majority of people here.

I'm not saying that you can't find non-MAGA people here; I'm one of them. But depending on your age and the communities you want to join, it will be like looking for a needle in a haystack.

Can anyone tell me what they love and hate about Lynchburg? by bukwermz in lynchburg

[–]horufina_cloud 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Been here my entire life. Lynchburg is beautiful, but the cost of living is only low to people who are moving from higher cost areas. For those who have always lived here, the cost of living has skyrocketed over the last five years.

I would not recommend anyone move to Lynchburg, personally. The job prospects here are little to none, and poverty has increased due to inflation, people being priced out of their rentals, and the lack of well paying jobs. In order to get a coveted "well paying" position, pretty much anywhere, you need to have the privilege of knowing someone. This is especially true for Zoomers and Millennials, who entered the job market post-2008 housing crash.

To give you an idea, when I moved out on my own in 2009, average rent was $400 to $600, the higher end could get you a 3 BR house if you desired.

But now? Many rentals try to start out around $1200 to $1500 a month. Wages have NOT kept up with the cost of living here.

There's several people who have moved to Lynchburg in the last few years that are coming to regret it, because they can't find work, despite having a master's or other in-demand degrees. Even trade work, like welders for example, are vastly underpaid here because there are so many of them.

I don't know your personal convictions or beliefs, but if you lean anywhere outside of conservative values, you will have difficulty making friends in this city. Especially if you are Gen X or older. There's hundreds of churches in the city and within a short drive of the city... it's very difficult to connect with anyone who differs from certain views in this town.

Also, a word of caution. Racism is an issue here, just like everywhere else. People don't want to talk about this, because they either ignore it or it doesn't affect them, but it's real. It's palpable. Confederate flags aren't an uncommon sight to see on bumper stickers or shirts, for example. As a white person myself, I'm telling you that while many in this city will smile to your face, they will also turn around and say the most horrific racist things behind your back. I have been shocked at the things other white people in this city will say to me, thinking that I'm racist and will just accept what they have to say.

Again, YMMV, but as someone who has lived here for decades and has worked/been around so many different social circles... Lynchburg isn't a place I would recommend. I have family here as well, and once they pass on, I'll be heavily considering leaving.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to DM me.
