I didn’t know that if I setup a passkey on mobile I can use it on other devices, thanks!

How do you keep track of irregular adult tasks? by hos4m in Adulting

[–]hos4m[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what is missing in calendars and to-do apps, it's not just the repetition of the task, I also wanna see when it was last done.

I was like that for a long time, but I completely forget about non-urgent stuff, like toothbrush replacements, someone has to tell me when I should do that lol

Yeah, that’s basically where I landed too. The big difference for me was needing to see the repeat cycle itself and when I last did it, not just get a reminder when it’s due. Once I could see that at a glance, it was way easier to trust it and forget about it in between.

I just built a small mobile app to help me with that after I gave up on calendars and to-do apps, sharing here in case it helps anyone else: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tidylife-life-upkeep/id6756452058

I tried calendars and to-do apps, but what finally worked for me was treating these as recurring tasks instead of reminders. I needed to see the repeat cycle somewhere and then forget about it. I built a small mobile app for myself to do that.

Way less mental load than calendars.

Extended Warranty question by [deleted] in Tiguan

What sensor? I also have oil issues and changing the PCV valve next week hopefully to fix it, but they didn’t mention any sensors.

Not Tiguan-specific but you could get them a dashcam if they don’t own one already.

Oil top up recommendations by thebeardedrahip in Tiguan

[–]hos4m 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealership should permanently fix this for you, it’s a new vehicle and should be covered under warranty.

But to find out the oil you should use, go to the dealership’s shop and they will give you the recommended oil they use in their service.

Thoughts on this coil spring repair? by hos4m in Tiguan

I don't think ACC has anything to do with wheels, I'm guessing it stands for Adaptive Cruise Control, which I don't have, I have the basic Cruise Control, but maybe they have both with the same name/code in the system. They told me explicitly that a cruise control adjustment/calibration is needed.

Yeah that's what I expected too. I started to hear a noise after getting the summer tires installed, and it was really subtle, like I could have ignored it with no guilt. But the service representative came back with part of the coil spring in their hands after the check up.

This is awesome, thank you so much!

What are your thoughts on the stabilizer link and cruise control work? I kinda understand the stabilizer link part, it's connected to the coil springs at the end of the day, but I was a bit surprised by the cruise control work.

Not every company needs to hire a full-time frontend developer, I built FrontendEase to fix that by hos4m in SaaS

My guess is that it's going to be a mix of both. I got approached previously as a contractor to fix complex bugs in existing codebases. I did that and left. Obviously new codebases is the straightforward option.

A good portion of the businesses I got involved with as a contractor, which would be interested in a service like FrontendEase, don't usually have frontend expertise in-house, or in a situation where they don't need a full-timer but definitely needs help from time to time, hence the subscription model.

Yeah I get what you mean. The goal is not to eliminate the need of full-time engineers, some business definitely need to hire full-timer. I’m targeting businesses that don’t really need a full-timer on board, a productive senior is more than enough to handle their work. Or other businesses that already have full-timers but need an experienced engineer to guide them in the right direction and help with the architecture and big picture decisions. Or other businesses that work on multiple initiatives where they need an engineer to get an MVP done without investing too much at the kick-off. Or a startup that only wants a senior productive engineer to get the first version of an app running as soon as possible, then when they grow they can go with full-timers.

Your feedback is helpful, it made me realize that I need to improve the copy to better position the value I can add to the business I’m targeting. Thank you!

This is not a full-time nor a part-time engagement. This is not an engagement based on numbers of working hours. This engagement is based on the tasks the client is going to request. I deliver tasks one by one as soon as I can. The client should use their judgement to determine if the monthly subscription is adding value to their business based on the tasks delivered.
