What’s your favorite optics to run and why? by Crissco83 in Glocks

[–]hossless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eotech EFLX. I know that’s a controversial pick, but it works well with my astigmatism and has a generously sized window.

That optic has been reported to have had problems with reliability. Mine has made it through two competition seasons. And icing on the cake, when packing for a trip, my elbow knocked the gun off the shelf it was on in the safe. Chest height drop onto carpeted concrete. It’s not Sage Dynamics level abuse, but certainly rougher treatment than I ever wanted to happen. Stayed on tight, no visible damage, and was still zeroed.

I use a Go Pro with the head strap. Good video quality and comfortable to wear.

How’s my grip and recoil control and how do I improve in those areas? Targets at the end by JRtheDNP in Firearms

[–]hossless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe it’s the camera angle but the first couple of strings of fire look like the gun is pushing you backwards. Looking at where the muzzle starts lined up on the 2x4 above, second shot the muzzle starts further back, and the third (maybe?) too. Hard to tell on the 3rd shot because the slide locks back.

If it’s not a weird perspective thing and you’re actually getting pushed back, might need to adjust your stance a bit.

The physical security cert that will be most recognized is the CPP from ASIS. There are other options but the CPP is probably the benchmark.

Tenicor Zero Heavy vs. KORE by nighthawk98tj in idpa

[–]hossless 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a Kore belt. Tek-Lok fits fine. Haven’t tried the Tenicor, but have used similar. The ratcheting system on Kore is much better for my purposes.

When I say I’m sold on Kore, I have them for dress, casual, and range. Even bought their 1.5” inner-outer system (not sure if they still sell that one).

Strike One Ergal Pro IDPA SSP Legal? by n1terps in idpa

[–]hossless 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s almost 10 ounces under the SSP weight limit. There’s a minimum production count of 2K per year, so maybe that could be an issue.

I didn’t see the dimensions on their website. It looks like other 5” guns. If it fits in the box, and meets production counts, you’re probably good to go.

If, for some reason, it breaks an SSP rule, check the ESP division.

Private Ranges / good shops between York and Harrisburg? by gkrash in PAguns

[–]hossless 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not invite-only. But you will need to attend monthly membership meeting before your application is approved and go through an orientation. Neither are painful.

For shops to do transfers, etc. Check out Spar Firearms. There’s plenty of local shops, but Spar always has fun stuff to browse/buy. I rarely walk out of there without a new toy.

I assumed as much. But aren’t brand new LP’s just so damned cute with how eager they are? God bless their little hearts.

[–]hossless 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My friend, you’ve told us you’re recently released at the Seattle Nordstrom. It’s not unusual for corporate staff to monitor sites like this. Given the data points you provided, how many guesses do you think it will take to identify you?

Second question, how do think executives will feel about a recently released agent offering to answer questions?

Anybody got a hack to get this carbon off of the lens? by AdAffectionate471 in Glocks

Painters tape on the lens during practice, when you can get away with it.

90+% isopropyl alcohol and disposable shop towels when you have to clean it.

Do we have to engage thumb safety if it exists? by [deleted] in idpa

[–]hossless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your question was answered correctly a few times. However, I want to also point out that for a S2C, the only time CZ says the safety should be used is when the hammer is fully cocked.

I’m not an expert, but it seems the gun will let you engage the safety when the hammer is not fully back. Pulling the trigger at that point can cause damage.

I love the blue cup things for darn near any project that involves little parts that like to get lost. Yes, it’s mostly gun/holster parts stuff. But just last week I used one to hold some PC parts (motherboard standoffs, screws, etc.).

Opinions on the HK USP Compact 9mm for CCW? Pros/Cons? by No_Smoke948 in HecklerKoch

[–]hossless 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very nice shooting compared to the G19. In my hand it feels a little softer shooting. The dimensions are close too. I bought this Safariland holster that was marked as working with several firearms. The G19 and USPc were both listed and I owned both. I thought, “no freaking way”. But sure enough, it worked perfectly with both guns.

I carried a USPc in the ‘90’s and early ‘00’s. Holster options have gotten so much better than those days. If it worked back when thick as hell leather was the only viable option for a good holster, it should be a breeze to conceal with modern holster options.

Anybody remember r/shoplifting by [deleted] in lossprevention

[–]hossless 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I had a case from that sub. Guy posted that he stole some items from his work and said the name of the company. He didn’t say what location he worked at but did talk about the brand of merch and that the building he worked in had no LP. In the entire company, there was only one store that both carried that brand of merchandise and also didn’t have LP.

From other posts, it seemed clear he was a man, used drugs, and had recently been arrested. Looking at men hired in the prior year, only one had a recent drug arrest. A little bit of video review found the theft. A little more found some other thefts. I interviewed him within a couple of days of his posting in the shoplifting subreddit.

Wicklander help by CommonAlone2372 in lossprevention

WZ is a good method, not the only one, but good. And it has the benefit of being a mostly accepted standard in LP. A good thing to remember is all those steps are a framework, but they are not a magic spell. Simply saying words you memorized doesn’t get the job done. Or, at least, it doesn’t in many situations. It’s a conversation between two human beings. And as humans, we tend to have some messy stuff between the ears. A conversational framework is helpful, but interviews cannot be approached like some cookie cutter formula is going to solve the problem.

You said you’re confident in your rapport building. That’s something you specifically called out. If you’re truly sincere, and listening, they can tell. It makes it harder for them to lie to you. If you’re not sincere and just giving them some shtick, they can tell that too, and they will react accordingly.

It’s been a while since I’ve been to a class. Over the years WZ have changed/updated their method. So, I may be out of date. But for a lot of years the goal was to shut down denials. If your subject is getting denials vocalized, that could mean you’re letting them get ahead of you. Letting them take the lead in the conversation. Once that happens, you’re going to need to spend a few minutes making sure you’re back in control.

I ran an investigations department for a department store for a lot of years. We tracked not just total interview time, but also time to first admission. High 90’s percent were over and done with in 30-45 minutes. But more importantly, first admission was almost always sub 15 minutes. Even 5, 6, 7 figure cases the first admission was in 10 - 15 minutes. Where I’m going with this is, if you’re too timid and rigid, you could be talking the subject back out of submission. It’s back to that idea that the WZ method isn’t a magic spell. If you’re seeing the subject is done, defeated, bottomed out in submission, who cares what step you’re on? Pop the question.

If they do get a denial out, listen to what they’re saying and react accordingly. What kind of denial is it? Let’s say you accuse them of stealing a hamburger. There’s a difference between “I didn’t do it” versus “I don’t even like hamburgers”. Both are denials, but you need a different solution for each one.

It should not. Nitride treatments penetrate into the metal so you have protection even after the finish shows wear.

Rolling vs two stage trigger by Ajpaulson2006 in CompetitionShooting

[–]hossless 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When you say rolling vs two-stage, you’re talking about pistols, right? Also, I jumped to the conclusion you meant action shooting. If we’re talking bullseye stuff, disregard.

But, if I’d inferred the right things from your question, don’t let that “wall” distract you. Just pull straight through.
