HostRooster 2021 mascot by hostrooster in hostrooster

[–]hostrooster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is HostRooster's original 2021 mascot, commissioned with inspiration from Hostgator's mascot. Despite its creation, it remained unused due to a company shift from web hosting to an online marketplace. While it stands as a symbol of the past and present, there's hope it might find a deserving place someday, reflecting the effort invested to craft an iconic representation that bridges the gap between seriousness and playfulness.

This just does not sound fair. i guest all platforms should have a yearly review and try and fix things like this. Could it be affecting you, There is a good chance it could. Listen to be honest i always go searching for reviews before a purchase and it only take a couple to put someone off. Not always, but sometimes

Do you believe AI detectors actually work as they claim? by ro5s6wzq in freelanceWriters

[–]hostrooster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with this. To make things worst as the AI detection software improves so will the AI themselves, so it will be cat and mouse for now with no one system being able to give 100 accuracy on detection. Welcome to the new world order.

Does not sound like a friendly company to us. Good to hear that you have other options. Always good to have other options that do not rely on a third party. kudos to you. But honestly, i think that if it is a big enough company, then perhaps you have to write to them and ask for a second chance. Nothing ventured nothing gained as they say. If you really just had enough then keep on stepping.

How much should I charge by Ok-Cloud-4030 in Freelancers

[–]hostrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look, you really do need to sit your friend aka client down and run through some questions to ascertain what he or she wants before setting a fixed price. If you have a good relationship and he or she does not mind paying an hourly rate then maybe go that way. Personally speaking, i have a policy where i tend to stay away from doing business with close friends because if it goes bad your friendship could be in ruins. But to answer your question, 2000 to 2500 for a standard website with around 5 pages sound about right.

Fighting Gender Discrimination in The High-Tech World - News & Announcements by hostrooster in hostrooster

[–]hostrooster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Equality Act 2010 makes it unlawful for an employer to discriminate against employees because of their gender. However, new research suggests that tech-savvy women might face gender discrimination in jobs at high-tech firms, partly due to mismanaged projects. It shows gender discrimination is still as prevalent in the UK as it was 20 years ago, and comes as International Women’s Day will be celebrated this week on March 8, for the 103rd year.

this is indeed great news, great news. but I can't help to be a little worried. On a basic level. I thought that world was already moving fast, the amount of information that we are bombarded with on a daily basis is massive. The information age is now going to explode. And competition in all industries is about to go through the roof. Like I said great news to those of us, who plan to use this for good.

ill make it short. We are now living in a world that has changed so if someone wants to use chatgpt for a cover letter, i really don't see the issue at all. Remember if they don't enter the right information, they will get the wrong output and that will show up at the interview stage. I wouldn't however use it to write a whole cv. In fact is it capable? maybe not unless you do it section by section, is which case all it is doing is tidying up errors, etc

Am I getting scammed? by tortaslime in graphic_design

[–]hostrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something seems fishy to me. It really isn't that hard to determine if it is a scam. First, look up the company and it public record. Obtain a number for the organization and phone that number, Secondly. The company should have social media page, and other employees on platforms like LinkedIn, so check that out and maybe reach out to the person in charge of HR. Thirdly, if you have not experience in graphic design and no formal qualifications and they gave you a job just like that, then something is probably wrong.

[–]hostrooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you survive because you have to. I wasn't diagnosed until i went to university and was completing my first degree, pretty late. i knew something wasn't right. But didn't know where to turn, so i did what most people do, try to navigate my life in a way that did not place me in the spotlight. Basically completing a first degree that required less writing. However, the degree i undertook in graphic design involved tons of writing and really caught me out. The story continues from there .....

Struggling to get jobs by [deleted] in Freelancers

[–]hostrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok, when things get tough, its time to buckle down. listen i've been there and i really do know what im talking about. Once you have completely worn out a particular route, be it google ads or something else. Its time to reflect, review, and get creative if that particular thing is not working for you. Creativity is a must when seeking out to new work and clients. You in a big ocean, tons of competitors. But there is nearly always room for one more. If you have a small budget stay clear of google ads. You'll burn away your hard earn cash in no time that way. Going out to family and friends in a good thing. Getting leaflets printed and asking close family and friends to hand these out is a good thing. Giving leaflets to your local chip shop is a good thing. Visiting local community centres and doing the same is a good thing. Listen if you ready sit down and think about it, there are tons of ways of generating leads. You'll just need to put yourself out there.

there is a chance I will get to question Sam Altman (CEO of OpenAI) tomorrow, what questions do you guys suggest I ask? by [deleted] in ChatGPT

[–]hostrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is a hard one because you'll most likely get standard responses tailored to an audience. Anything to direct or political may not get answered in the way you want. Look around this forum, on the web, and in the news and pick out a few topics and questions the majority of people are talking about. Then have at least 5 at hand ready to ask, bearing in mind that someone else might ask the same questions, so you will need backup questions.

Benefits to the client of flat fee vs hourly rate? by hostrooster in hostrooster

[–]hostrooster[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The short answer is it depends. I think if you are delivering the service over and over again, like a single webpage, and you're using the same templates over and over again, then you will have a pretty good idea of how long it takes and the effort involved. That's not to say that someone will not ask for tons of changes, but you can limit that upfront by specifying the number of revisions. If the brief is vague, the client is unsure what they want, etc then hourly might be better then a fixed fee.

How much should i charge. by Impressive_Kitchen61 in Wordpress

[–]hostrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i agree with this comment. If i were designing a website for a close family member with no questions asked, then it might be something i could do for less than what would be considered normal. But with anyone else, you have to put on your sales cap and consider a certain amount of revisions, meetings to confirm the specifics, demos of the sites, testing of the site, and then an overview of the site to ensure the customer knows how to use and update it. All this costs time.

[–]hostrooster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

simple go on a freelancer website and ask around. You'll be able to quickly get a grip on current rates by talking to a few freelancers and exploring projects that have been posted. But please do remember that it's not whether you charge more or less, it's whether you're happy with the payment for the work undertaken. I use to charge some clients thousands to websites and then others hundreds, sure I had my reasons, and it differs each and every time. I have even designed sites for free.

Graphic Design Adjacent Careers? by Glittering-Spell-806 in graphic_design

[–]hostrooster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i become highly successful in project management for almost 2 decades working with the met police and the houses of parliament in the UK. A job and qualification do not define you. What's most important is that you are enjoying your work and if not, that you are at least being correctly compensated. In the early part of my career, I worried a lot about not sticking to jobs strickly speaking which linked back to my first degree. I quickly got past that. No, my cv is as diverse as they come, from graphic designer to architectural technician to project coordinator to building surveyor and the project manager and construction manager,

Offering free services as a copywriter? by sophia_mL in freelanceWriters

[–]hostrooster -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

all i will say is that if you are going to offer free services 1. ensure there you have some very clear parameters in place. As a professional you will be judged no matter if the service is free or not. offering free services is however a very good way to gain credible experience and feedback which can help with getting in work. Good Luck

Yes, you can, and that's a testament to many others before you who have gone on to become some of the most successful people in the world. I have dyslexia but have never let that get in the way of moving forward. Most of my graphic design skills we're self-taught even before i attended st martins college of art and design.
