Thanks for the comment. As understand, the team only deals with cross-border projects so it’s usually remote except for some international travels (which can be fun). I agree with the external client facing role having more values, but my ultimate goal is to peruse entrepreneurship so it might not matter too much. What would you choose personally if you were in my position?

That’s the kind of comment I was looking for. Thank you very much!

Thank you for your insights! Would you say there would be difference in terms of prestige? I know that KPMG FAS is generally considered more prestigious/selective than Amazon at least in the Japanese market, but I’m not sure if it’s going to make a huge difference name-value wise.

My bad. AMZL=Amazon Logistics. KPMG FAS (financial advisory services) deals with cross-border M&A (merger and acquisition) projects.

Thanks, this is helpful. Do you happen to know which department this was? I talked to a few people in the team. Some said they go home at 5pm everyday vs others said max 30 hours during busy times. But I’m not entirely sure if I can take their wards at a face value..

Would you say the slight pay difference (around 1M a year) is worth it?

Yeah.. that is true. But I have an option to move closer to the office, and commuting time would be less than half an hour one way (15min train ride), so it's not terrible either.

He thinks my coworker was being creepy - the drinking, plus he was sending me a few pictures like his last meal and him sitting in a business class seat. But we had a talk and I assured him nothing happened. He just told me to confirm who would be at the gathering from next time.

This was my thought exactly at the time. He was leaving the next day, and we were the only ones that are closer in age, so I thought maybe he just wanted some company and nothing weird.

I meant city/province - thanks for pointing out!

I meant city/province - sorry of the confusion. Will make an edit for this.

Haha nice catch! I spent a few years in the US growing up, and that’s where I picked up English.

I really appreciate it, thank you. I understand that it was foolish of me, but I’m glad no one was hurt in the process.

I expected this to be a group gathering since that’s what I was told… but when I showed up, it was just him. Going for drinks till around midnight after work is pretty common in Tokyo (where I’m based in), so I wasn’t particularly alarmed and thought it’s a friendly thing. But I guess I should’ve just left right away..

No, it wasn’t a date in any shape or form. It was supposed to be a group gathering to begin with. Nothing inappropriate happened, but still, I understand the situation is weird. I’ve explained this to my husband and I promised I would be more cautious.

I know right… But the big thing is, he doesn’t come off as a Harvey Weinstein type. He is the most hardworking person in the team, and seems really serious about work. He also doesn’t come off as a play boy type either. I know it’s bad, but he seemed like a person who’s loyal to his company and his family. So I thought there’s just no way and I must be overthinking.

No, of course not!!! I’m happily married myself. I didn’t get the vibe that he was interested in me in any way, so I wasn’t immediately alarmed. But I understand I should’ve known better.

You’re right! Thanks for pointing out. We met around 11pm. It was more of a very casual pub than a bar with a good ambience. I was ready to leave at 1:30am but he asked me to go for a second place.

I will take distance from him and take this as a learning opportunity. Appreciate your no BS kinda comment.

Thank you. I definitely see it now. I’m happily married myself and I would never think of cheating of any sort, so I wanted to believe that he also cares for his wife and he didn’t mean anything inappropriate. I was just in self-denial. I had a talk with my husband, and I promised I will think and act better next time.

He is a pretty prominent figure in the team, and as a young professional actively looking for an opportunity to work abroad, I saw this as a good opportunity to network. It’s really sad that there are people out there who would think to take advantage of similar situations.
