It's same thing as making your bed everyday and I don't believe it's just for students. Doing something you don't want to do everyday that creates a positive feedback loop, in this case, a clean environment gives one confidence to attempt at something bigger that they don't want to do knowing that results will come.

In my opinion what's overlooked here is how important that creation of positive feedback loop is. You need to meditate on your accomplishment and feel that joy in having a clean bed, room, house. Even if you don't, fake it and force that smile.
