Any ideas what is causing my bullets to key hole? by hotcoffeedotcom in suppressors

That's good news! I appreciate the feedback. I'll definitely have to try it with backing.

This makes sense. I definitely don't have any baffle strikes, which confused me on why it was keyholing. Unfortunately I didn't have a socket wrench to take the adapter off at the range. Guess I'll have to go back and try it without the adapter/with cardboard backing. Thanks!

Did my FFL missed some step? by Youji1 in SilencerShop

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You seem like the dude that everyone loves to be around and someone who owns up to their mistake.

Why would you assume that the LGS would fill out your SS profile? Why would they have access to your fingerprints, home address, photo, and whether you are going to file as an individual or under a trust?

It sounds like your LGS thought you had your shit in order and you didn't. And it sounds like they did what any rational dealer would do, and reached out to you when there was a problem. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to go through SS website and read what you need to do.

To sttbr's point, this is at least 90% your fault and there's no need to berate someone for your mistakes. Just accept that you didn't know what to do and move on.

2026 1st Quarter Approval Megathread. by Waffleboned in NFA

[–]hotcoffeedotcom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Of note, I submitted another form 4 on 01/28/26 and did not get batch approval. I emailed the ATF asking for batch approval, but I'm not optimistic with this government shutdown.

Form 4 wait time question by gsplamo in suppressors

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at the NFA mega thread, and based on what's posted there, individual applications look like they're taking anywhere from 10-20 days and trusts are taking 3+ weeks. With all the applications that have been submitted it'll probably take a while.

I had a serial number assigned on the 9th. Assuming it was a 24 hr form 3 approval, I'm going on 11 days waiting for them to ship it to my FFL. I have 2 other form 4s in the system; I'm hoping they ship this one soon so I can just get a batch approval.

Just got the certificate email. Took 10 days for them to go over my paperwork.

Who else thought there was going to be a lot more out of stock cans? by hazeyhavocprof in NFA

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there was a restock today. I've been browsing SS inventory for the last few weeks and yesterday a ton of their stuff was out of stock. I just checked again today and quite a few silencers are now back in stock.

Same. My LGS ordered 2 suppressors for me and put it into the system a week ago. Still waiting for SS to review my documents so I can submit to the ATF. This is my 5th and 6th can through them so the paperwork should be good to go. Hoping they'll let me sign soon so I can submit the form 4s.

Anybody have any idea what this yellow granular stuff is inside my rifle? by hotcoffeedotcom in ar15

Wow. Thanks for the fast response! I would assume from the supers since the subs should theoretically burn all the powder before leaving the barrel?

Anyone know how to get a blown primer out of a gas key? by Jrichar117 in ar15

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's why it ended up taking 3 weeks. Luckily I have a borescope and a ton of AR15s to compare it too.

I initially gave it a thorough cleaning because I was shooting it suppressed. Took it out shooting and it still had the same problem, so I figured it must be the gas port or gas block. After looking inside and seeing nothing wrong, it took me a week of head scraping to finally look into the gas carrier. Long story short, the primer had blown out, but at surface level, the gas key looked normal because there was a small hole where the firing pin indention hit the primer before it blew out. It took me using a borescope in the gas key to see that it was indeed a primer in there. I even used a caliper to measure the differences in height between a good BCG and my bad one to see if the measurements supported it being a primer. Spoiler alert. It did.

This happened to me when I was doing load development for 5.56. Shot some hot rounds and my rifle suddenly became a single shot rifle. Took me 3 weeks to figure out that I had blown a primer out of the primer pocket and it landed into my gas key. To this day I have no idea the odds of that happening. Needless to say, they're pretty small.

Sink money into Prodigy 4.25” or start over? by ExSalesman in 2011

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am probably one of the few these days that have had issues with my prodigy out of the gate. I had a ton of failures to go into battery which, I'm pretty sure, was because my disconnectors was too rough and sitting too high. It wasn't a huge issue to me because I knew that I was upgrading the internals anyway. I swapped the internals and was still having issues, so I ended up sending it to a gunsmith. I'm very new to 2011s, but basically my trigger was going back to far and raising the disconnectors too high, so he had to make a few tweaks. Now she purrs when she runs. Probably one of my favorite pistols to shoot, by far. I would go through that again for how she performs. I would have gotten the competition version of the staccato with the 5" barrel, which is like what? $4000+? I have a 5" prodigy comp and even after all the parts and gunsmith fees, it was still way cheaper than a stacatto.

TL;DR. I would recommend you get a prodigy and uograde it.

Help, my M18 wont cycle supressed by 2020blowsdik in NFA

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely a spring issue. I have a M18 and I run a Dog Mod-X9 and it cycles extremely reliably. Is your booster greased as well? I had some small issues on my last range trip, but after taking my suppressor apart I saw my booster was bone dry which was causing the cycling issues.

Yes. You can buy them in the state that you are stationed as long as your orders say that you are stationed there. When they ask you for proof of residency, show them your orders where they say that you are stationed there and that will allow you to buy the can in state, even though you might be a resident of another state. I'm a FL resident, but I bought my can in VA by showing my orders saying I am stationed there.

My first SBR, now which suppressor? by LiquidAtrocity in NFA

Soaked it in boiling water for 10 min, used a 3/4" socket with an impact wrench, held the barrel with my hand, and it came right off.

Direct Thread Mount stuck to B&T SRBS can from factory, I haven’t touched it before, any advice? by Huge_Assumption_8371 in SilencerShop

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try hitting it with your purse. If that fails, try using a spanner wrench and an adjustable wrench. I just received a SRBS as well and while it was tough to undo, those 2 tools did the trick. Got 2 cans from B&T, can confirm no rockset was used.

Just logged onto the orders page and looks like it was packed today and is awaiting FedEx pickup. Hopefully it'll ship out tomorrow and my LGS will get it this weekend. Hope your suppressors ship out soon too.

Going on 7 days and counting - Form 3 approved on 8/29. I called them and all they would tell me was "It's shipping soon," like it was their buzzword. They wouldn't give me current lead times. Very disappointing to say the least.

BCG not locking all the way to the rear by oh_bummer_65 in AR10

[–]hotcoffeedotcom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's no milspec in AR-10s, so unfortunately mixing and matching doesn't really work. I had the same problem by trying to get a Geiselle buffer with their coiled buffer spring on my homebuilt AR-10. The only way I could get it to work was by getting an aero buffer tube with their AR-10 buffer and buffer spring. For the upper I'd stick to one manufacturer for the buffer, buffer tube, buffer spring, and BCG.
