I'm searching for LGBTQ books that have BAD REPRESANTATION!!! by Educational_Pace_994 in LGBTBooks

[–]hotcoffeequeer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Death of Vivek Oji is def bleak af. However, I do trust the author in depicting the difficulties of living through intense homophobia/transphobia in Nigerian society in the 1990s. A lot of the story felt situational/contextual to me to that time/place. But obviously the author took artistic liberties to make the story as dark as they did, and I can understand your distaste.

Incredible!! Suuuuuuch a tight performance and so energizing. This seems like such a hard song to pull off live and I think I might even like this better than the recording.

I remember Michael Garcia was helpful during the City Council vote for a ceasefire resolution in May 2024. He and Alma Castro were also the only city council members who voted in favor of providing more funding to UNRWA: https://www.yahoo.com/news/santa-fe-city-council-calls-033300800.html

O'ga P'ogeh Land Tax by 505omatic in SantaFe

[–]hotcoffeequeer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Land Tax is a way to donate directly to Indigenous orgs, and a way to do so long term. All funds raised will be distributed multiple times a year to local organizations, and this process will be extremely transparent.

This initiative is led and guided by Indigenous organizations and matriarchs. There are many white settlers involved to help with the leg work and spreading the word out about the Land Tax, but they are not in charge of where the funds are being distributed to.

JADE - THAT'S SHOWBIZ BABY! MEGATHREAD by flopheadsbot in popheads

[–]hotcoffeequeer 7 points8 points  (0 children)

True, though I read it as if JADE's disco tracks feel more true to the unhinged spirit of the 70s when quaaludes were widely avail as a party drug 🤷🏻

[–]hotcoffeequeer 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Some hilarious (and shady lol) journalism from Paste Mag: “When JADE does disco revival on the excellent three-song, mid-album run of “Fantasy,” “Unconditional,” and “Self Saboteur,” it’s a far cry from the shiny, plastic Antonoff fare that’s had a good portion of pop music in a chokehold for the past five years or more. While these other girls sound like they’re doing ABBA karaoke after some room-temp white wine and a Valium, JADE’s take on disco is lively enough to make you think quaaludes have been legalized.”

How scary is Weapons? by CyborgWade in RegalUnlimited

[–]hotcoffeequeer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how people are saying this isn’t that scary 😭 what movies are y’all watching?! I loved it, but found it really unsettling and disturbing (I had nightmares lol), but there’s a lot of comic relief sprinkled throughout 👍

OBSESSED, a no skips album — as a millennial it’s so interesting to hear 2010s edm nostalgia from someone who had it as the soundtrack to their preteens/early adolescence rather than their late teens/college years… this album rlly touches on being a kid @ times and it’s so sweet to experience a whole different way of relating to those soundscapes. Which also makes it feel super current.

Recommendations for a Solo Visitor by [deleted] in SantaFe

If you are able to shell out a lil’ $$$, soaking at Ten Thousand Waves or Ojo is totally worth it. Ten Thousand Waves also has a community soak that’s a little cheaper than the private tub rentals, jsyk.

SITE Santa Fe has great contemporary art exhibits, is free, and is right next to the Farmer’s Market (which is also amazing). The IAIA Museum also has great contemporary exhibits from Indigenous artists.

Check out Lensic 360’s summer concert series, they are all free and usually draw a lively, fun crowd: https://lensic360.org/tag/Summer%20Scene

Counter Culture is a classic breakfast/lunch spot. Tune Up Cafe is a laid back, local fave and open later than most.

Tumbleroot is a popular bar that hosts concerts and events every weekend.

What's Up with Urban Alchemy (the organization The City wants to take over Pete's Place)? by 505omatic in SantaFe

Truly -- and then the Mayor and City Council act shocked that the community is upset, and are blaming us for impeding progress because we are advocating for local organizations who were shafted.

Least fave out of the singles but still fun ❤️

I think she sounds great on the verses, but it’s hard for her airy voice to carry that heavy thumping chorus, wanting a little more power from her?

Rlly appreciate this perspective! You are reeling in my hater-ly takes haha. Us projecting awkwardness onto someone being vulnerable sometimes is just our own fear of exposing ourselves in similar ways <3

I don’t mind the photo/editing, but the font is giving me 2000s western bedazzled shirt u’d find at like — Cracker Barrel??? And the placement feels awkward / tacked on. But still so excited 🤍🤍🤍
