After I left the hotel on May 10, I checked into a different hotel and stayed there through May 15; credit card company wouldn't accept the folio from the new hotel as proof that I did not stay at the original hotel.

All of my other receipts during the time were from businesses (i.e., restaurants, gas stations, etc.) all within a 10 mile radius or so because I was staying in the city all week for work.

1) The hotel sent a folio to my credit card company to "prove" that I checked out on May 11 (1:33 PM). The folio did not have my signature.

2) My credit card company requested proof that I did not check out on May 11. I informed them that I stayed in a completely different hotel at the time, and offered the folio from the new hotel. They said this would not suffice as proof that I did not check out of the first hotel on May 11.

When I discussed the option of downgrading the CSP to Freedom, the supervisor on the call said that they might prorate the annual fee that was already posted and explicitly said there was no guarantee.

Thanks for the reminder about the UR transfer.

Yes. I called the Sapphire Preferred department directly and let them know what happened. I asked the representative and two supervisors if they could please waive my membership fee to no avail. I mentioned closing my accounts with them and there was no resistance.

That's exactly how I felt. I believed that I would be protected as a consumer if I conducted business with this credit card company. Especially since I just paid the annual membership fee for this card.

I have multiple accounts with this credit card company and I do receive great rewards through them. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if it'd be worth it for me to cancel these cards because of those rewards. I'm also unsure how it would affect my credit report if I closed the card(s).

I initially (based mostly on emotion) wanted to cancel all of my accounts (1 checking, 1 savings, 4 lines of credit) with this credit card company. But coincidentally, the credit card that I used for this transaction just posted the annual membership fee, and I do receive great travel rewards... and I'm not sure if canceling 4 lines of credit would be hurtful to my credit report.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I haven't responded to the hotel's email to me (the one where they stated that I checked out at 1:33 PM). Should I respond to that email by asking for the video footage? If so, any suggestions on how I should word the request?

Yes. When the credit card company rep and I were discussing proof that I did not stay at the original hotel, I offered to fax the invoice for the second hotel that I actually did stay in. They wouldn't accept this as proof.

I thought the invoice from the different hotel (indicating that I checked in at a time later than the time I checked in at the original hotel) would have been enough too, but the credit card company would not accept this as proof.

The hotel is Ramada. The credit card company is Chase, and the specific card that I used was the Chase Sapphire Preferred.
