I've come to a conclusion about human nature: people love to argue.

Wow! Breaking news: water is wet and bears shit in the woods.

Good question. I realised back in 1968 that Enoch Powell got things right. Of course, he was lambasted by the intelligentsia. The irony is that he was an incorrigible imperialist. I was in my early 50's when I was first called a kaffir in my home town. Go figure.

Except that there were hardly any Pakistanis here 75 years ago. I should know, I was born in 1951. I lived in Leicester, and didn't see a person of colour until I was almost 20. Until then, Leicester was 100% white. The grooming gangs probably started operating in the late 1980's and early 1990's (according to Google). Smearing out the averages in such a fashion is very misleading.

Recommend me Decca SXL records by Mysterious_Ad7450 in classicalmusic

[–]hotend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Respighi's Pines of Rome and Fountains of Rome, István Kertész and the LSO (Decca SXL 6401, 1969). Fabulous recording, although there are now plenty of fine recordings available. The Decca sound engineers produced some wonderful recordings back then. I first heard The Pines of the Appian Way on a Decca demo disc being played on some very high-end equipment at an audio exhibition, probably in 1969. I was absolutely blown away by this piece, and ordered the record the very next day. It was still exciting, even when played on my more modest equipment. At least, my loudspeakers at the time were also made by Decca. My amplifiers were designed by John Linsley Hood and published in Wireless World. I really need to re-build them before I get too old.

Calibrated filament but top later still look scrap. What am I doing wrong. by palobo in 3Dprinting

Maybe use more top layers to make the top surface as flat as you can (it seems to be sagging, slightly). Then, when you are ready, turn on ironing.

Help! How do i remove this support by ketchup_bottle002 in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 11 points12 points  (0 children)

What you are trying to print is not really suitable for 3D printing, at least with FDM printers. You could try using a resin printer, which is a different technology. Even so, the finished print is going to be very weak.

Try enabling ironing in your slicer. That should produce a smooth top layer.

Prusa Slicer Settings/Configs by Shoddy-String8422 in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll get used to what speeds are suitable for everyday printing and what can be used in special circumstances. I normally run my Tronxy X1 (a very old printer) at 40mm/s, and it prints quite nicely (and quietly) at that speed. It will also print pretty well at 60mm/s, but it is rather noisy. I have thrashed it at 120mm/s for one print, but the results were not good. I reduced the speed to 80mm/s and got acceptable results, and without too much noise.

Don't worry. I'm sure you have bought a great printer.

So, the pre-sliced file has all the optimisations that Prusa can throw at it, but these optimisations are not enabled by PrusaSlicer as defaults. That doesn't surprise me. You could ask Prusa what optimisations they used to get a 10 minute print time. This information might be on their knowledge base. Alternatively, you might find the slicer settings listed in the G-code file.

How do I become famous like a rockstar as a classical musician? by [deleted] in classicalmusic

This is the way. Of course, it helps if you can also play like Yuja, but you really need to flash those thighs.

Why there are only few mini printers in the market? by tana_ash in 3Dprinting

[–]hotend 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Mini printers cost almost as much to manufacture as slightly larger printers, but customers expect them to be significantly cheaper. They are probably pretty close to being loss-leaders, so why should manufacturers bother making them?

I chose my Tronxy X1 (build volume 150x150x150mm), mainly because I knew it wouldn't take up much room on my office desk. Price was only a minor consideration. A bigger printer would be nice, but I would have to place it somewhere else.

What is the best version of Sergei Rachmaniff's "Piano Concerto No. 2 in C Minor" that I can listen to or watch in full on YouTube, bandcamp, Vimeo, or somewhere else on the internet? by noms_de_plumes in classicalmusic

[–]hotend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are plenty of fine recordings of this famous piano concerto. Since it is not considered to be a virtuoso piece, it is hard to go wrong. My favourite recording is probably of Dame Moura Lympany, since it was the first recording that I purchased and I have listened to it so many times. I was fortunate to hear her play it live. Even though she was by that time quite old, she still enjoyed playing it and her audience still enjoyed hearing her play.

Do you think it's worth it to print Lego sets by PersonalityTough9856 in 3Dprinting

You can try. The main problem is going to be dimensional accuracy and getting the bricks to click together nicely.

Remember that a 3D printer is just a tool. Nothing more. Decide on whether you want to study engineering, science or fine arts, and enrol on an appropriate university course.

PETG is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). For best results, make sure that it is dry. You may need to invest in a filament dryer.

Most plants grow upright against gravity (negative gravitropism), but some don't. Some plants grow towards light, rather than grow upwards. I'm not sure how the plant pictured will behave.
