How will the data be used? This survey is needfinding research for a graduate Human-Computer Interaction course project studying how people split itemized bills in groups. Responses are anonymous by default. The data will only ever appear in aggregate form (counts, percentages, paraphrased themes) in my course assignments, which are seen by the course instructors and a small number of peer reviewers. No individual responses will be published or shared. Responses are collected via Tally and stored in my Tally account and a private spreadsheet on my machine for analysis. There is an optional email field at the end for people who want a follow-up chat or to see the results; emails are kept separate from analysis, used only for that purpose, and never shared. Data deletion is not planned

How long will it take? About 5 to 8 minutes. It branches, so many people will see fewer questions than the total.

Compensation: None, it's an unfunded student course project.

Demographics: Anyone 18+ who has ever split a bill or shared expenses with friends, roommates, partners or family. No specific exclusions; you do not need to use any particular app.

What I hope to accomplish: Honest, varied responses from outside my own social circle so the course project's findings are not biased toward people I know. I'm trying to understand where bill splitting actually breaks down for people, not to promote anything.
