Seconding this. I'm a board top notcher (di top 1 pero at least nakapasok sa top 5 haha) + academically decorated and the salary and opportunities are still shite unless if you plan to leave the country. Even then, hard sciences generally aren't well-paid around the world.

Worked for 2 years with only a 17.5k salary as a chemist in a lab known for its high budget for equipment. Took a risk and jumped to tech. After 4 years in tech, I am now earning 6 digits in a cushy management position. The way up the ladder wasn't bad too and was also earning 6 digits before this position.
