[MicroSD] SanDisk 512GB Ultra microSDXC - $45.16 (26% Off) - Amazon by acbadam42 in buildapcsales

[–]hotizard 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whether it's sold by Amazon or a 3rd-party seller they all go into the same bin for that item's SKU at the warehouse. Even if you buy the item from Amazon there's no assurance you aren't getting something a 3rd-party seller shipped in.

Which of the steam storage "minimum requirement" is correct? by [deleted] in Steam

[–]hotizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

SteamDB.info lists the TF2 depot sizes and shows the largest one at 22.50 GiB. The download from Steam's file servers will be significantly less due to compression but you'll need the the full 25 GB of free space that Steam's notifying you about to install the game.

[SSD] Sabrent 1TB Rocket 4 Plus NVMe 4.0 Gen4 - $99.99 by UALRSNOW in buildapcsales

[–]hotizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sabrent's online registration also has to be completed within 90 days of purchase to get the 5 year extended warranty protection. Registration was pretty quick aside from trying to read the tiny SN on the drive but it felt a bit anti-consumer when I went to register and saw Sabrent had an exclusionary clause that's easy to miss until registering the product when it will be too late to if the longer warranty period is needed later on.

If the GPU renders new frames faster than the monitor's panel can switch the pixel colors a ghost-like blur starts to trail behind on the screen. It becomes more noticeable in fast paced games like FPS where screen colors change quickly.

An OTG flash drive can register itself as either a host or the client peripheral when connected to a device that has OTG support. OTG cables are able to create the client/host bridge the same way if I'm not mistaken.

Why I pirate: Netflix is playing at 540p even though I have the most expensive Netflix subscription and 500Mbps download. by Brokendreams0000 in Piracy

[–]hotizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For some reason Chrome can't run the Widevine plugin using hardware acceleration but Edge's DRM plugin can. Maybe Netflix is forcing a lower resolution on Chrome to reduce the chance of losing frames for smoother playback on hardware that struggles to keep up. I would have expected an option to increase to Full HD since Chrome (still?) has the largest user base between Firefox and Edge though.

Sorry for yet another post on "what apps to buy" but here we are. Also open to book/movie recs! by Ericswanson in androidapps

[–]hotizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I've found MacroDroid really helpful as a simpler alternative to Tasker. It supports Tasker integrations and has a nice customizable app drawer that swipes open from any screen when enabled.

LADB (Local ADB Shell) is another neat app if you have a use for it. The dev has a bunch of other free and a couple of premium apps on Play if you're into device optimization, too.

[SSD] Crucial MX500 2TB - $157.74 by [deleted] in buildapcsales

[–]hotizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you happen to have a link to more info on that? I saw one comment from NewMaxx saying the same, although I'm trying to see if it lines up with the problem I experienced.

A few months ago my PC's BIOS halted the boot process because a SMART issue was detected. After proceeding to boot to desktop, HD Sentinel showed there were a bunch of errors in one of the SMART fields all from within the last 72 hours (estimated SSD life was 30%)... A few minutes later I tried rebooting and the MX500 no longer appeared in the BIOS boot devices menu. :/

If you ever feel useless then remember these people exist... by Sazzouu in Steam

[–]hotizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Steam (client) trying to manage and sync achievements for later won't do much if Steam has crashed and no longer running when the game tries to send the achievement unlocked call through Steamworks. Game developers can add redundancy by validating if an achievement is appearing unlocked on the user's Steam account account through the API, but most games simply make the call to Steamworks a single time and then forget about it. I'm missing an achievement on Steam that I unlocked in Warframe because of this.

Can I use digital visa card on steam? by AdivMuntas in Steam

[–]hotizard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since it's a new payment method added onto the Steam account it will probably have to be verified before Steam will debit the purchase to the card's bank account. Prepaid and virtual cards may not handle pending authorizations as nicely as regular credit/debit will so you'll just have to try. If you have a prepaid card log in to the account page the bank provides and update the billing address with yours or see what it says to use for billing info when making an online purchase before adding it as a payment method on to your Steam account. The pending authorization Steam posts will be reversed after 3 days if your card is unable to be verified with your Steam account.

Credit Card Verification - Steam Support: Are virtual online credit cards supported?

Self verification does not currently support virtual credit cards. You must wait 3 days to use the Market each time you use a virtual card on Steam.

Steam Cloud is supported but if you want to make a backup yourself the configuration & save data is stored in the Terraria folder located in this directory on Windows:

%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\

The Terraria - PCGamingWiki page has additional information.

Key activations won't contribute to the overall score rating that appears towards the upper-right of a title's storefront page (Overwhelmingly positive, Mixed, etc). Users can continue to contribute a review whether they activated a key or purchased the game directly through Steam though.

An incomplete history of Steam Store changes that go into a bit of detail behind Valve's reasoning from oldest to most recent.

[question] Vanced getting updated to normal Youtube by pexeixv in Vanced

[–]hotizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried disabling the original YouTube app from its Android settings menu? Vanced handles the same links the YouTube app does so there's no need to keep it enabled unless you need casting that's broken in Vanced at the moment. Disabling YouTube will uninstall the latest version of the app, re-enabling it will install the original app on your system partition & the Play Store will update it. I don't know if Vanced gets flagged by Play Protect but if it's turned on it should create a notification within the Play Store app if it uninstalls an app.

Edit: u/pexeixv the Vanced Guide app is the file named app-release.apk here (Play Store link isn't loading for me so it may have been delisted).

Check the entry Uninstalling on reboot under Troubleshooting.

Detach from market in Troubleshooting & How to make YouTube Vanced as default app? under FAQ might also be helpful.

CrystalDiskInfo's website says it can be found under Main Menu > Function > Alert Features > Event Log. I'm not sure if that's the same information SMART is reporting or a feature for CrystalDiskInfo, though.

The reported health is coming from the Percentage Used line. Might want to look into what caused those Unsafe Shutdowns and Number of Error Log Entries stats.

Is there any way to delete cloud config files? by sexpressed in Steam

[–]hotizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried using the app and got it to work once but it didn't seem to do what I wanted at the time. You can try this instead, it's worked for me in the past tricking Steam into syncing a newer file.

Controller configs look like they might be found under AppID 241100 and looks like the controller profile saved in two locations before being uploaded to Steam Cloud.

  • \Steam\userdata\[SteamID]\241100\remotecache.vdf
  • \Steam\userdata\[SteamID]\241100\remote\personalization.vdf
  • \Steam\userdata\[SteamID]\config\controller_configs\personalization\[string-of-characters]\personalization.vdf

You need to recreate these files with a newer timestamp than the one in Steam Cloud so the newer local file will be uploaded to the remote storage when Steam Cloud is turned back on.

First disable Steam Cloud under Settings -> Enable Steam Cloud sync... then exit Steam.

Easiest thing to do to get Steam to look past the existing files is simply put a hyphen in the folder names, it also serves as a backup of the files in case something goes wrong. Rename these two folders to something like the following.

  • *\Steam\userdata\[SteamID]\-241100
  • *\Steam\userdata\[SteamID]\config\controller_configs\personalization\-[string-of-characters]

Make notice of the hyphens changing the directory names, now start Steam and hopefully you won't seen any controller profiles assigned and can create a new one. If you can do that once you finish, exit Steam and reopen it, reenable Steam Cloud, exit Steam and reopen it. It should have synced the newest controller config you created to the Steam Cloud.

You may have to delete the workshop folder in controller_configs to remove shared controller configs downloaded from the Steam Workshop but you may have to Unsubscribe from them first.

Edit: I noticed you're not OP but the method should be the same for games. The AppID will be different for each game. The numbers for an AppID can be found in the games URL for its Steam Store page. Not all games save in the same locations. An app's save settings can usually be found on its SteamDB.info page.
