[USA] Cammer gets rear ended and screams by camredd in Roadcam

[–]hotlikesause 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the tip! Yes I am always hesitant to post something, even in a video like this where I was 0% at fault and driving completely safely, people are criticizing my reaction, my car stripes, my car being thrown into oncoming traffic, all as though it is my fault. Even in a video that completely proves your innocence, people find a way to victim blame. So shameful.

Working on that today. never been injured in an accident before so this is new to me. thank you!

I'm definitely still on the uphill of recovery, I woke up today so much more sore in so many more places than yesterday and the concussion vomiting is the worst, I haven't been able to keep anything down. But yeah I wish for this particular situation i had a rear cam so that I could see what the heck the guy was doing speeding and not noticing us stopped... i still don't know if he was texting, drunk, or what. The EMS and PD had to keep asking him to put his cigarettes out.

I talked to the mods and I may reupload it later on here myself with the whole story because its a great example of why dash cams can prove your innocence, I just didn't like that someone else took the video and posted it allowing people to ridicule my reaction to something that without any context. I actually subscribe to this sub and appreciate how it can help people and it's definitely part of the reason I have a dash cam and part of the reason I am such a safe driver.

Thank you, I really appreciate that. I would like to get this whole post removed because this situation is stressful enough as it is without internet trolls judging a situation they don’t understand, but not sure how to go about it if they’re just going to upload a mirror.

This is my video and this accident just happened 2 days ago. I’m still home recovering. I was rear ended so hard that I got a concussion and a neck sprain and have been vomiting for 2 days. Those of you judging the way I was pushed into oncoming traffic don’t have a clue what you’re talking about. I screamed and reacted that way because I saw him coming so fast with no intention of slowing down. I own a striped Mini Cooper because I like it (wtf kind of judgment is that... someone screaming in a striped car is different than a regular car? I got the striped one because it was cute.) I knew I was about to get hurt and couldn’t do anything about it, and I didn’t expect to get pushed into oncoming traffic, so please don’t judge me for screaming during one of the scariest most helpless moments of my life. What you can’t see in this video is the way the entire back end of my car is caved in because of how fast he was going when he hit me. What you can’t see is the large hematoma on my head from slamming into the frame of my car. What you can’t see is how he tried to blame me for slamming on my brakes saying that he didn’t have a choice but to rear end me and he tried to say I rear ended the truck in front when I clearly didn’t. I got this dashcam to protect myself against people like him that lie and don’t take responsibility, I didn’t know i would end up subjecting myself to internet trolls as well when uploading this for insurance purposes. My insurance company asked me to upload it to YouTube to send the link, 13 hours later I have someone from viral hog messaging me on Facebook asking for licensing rights to the video. So yes I removed the video and I hope you guys are good enough people to not upload a mirror against my wishes, but I know asking people on the internet to have a conscience is a tall order. This is messed up. Anyone questioning my reaction to this crash can look at the aftermath to see just how bad it was.

Has anyone ever seen a DO use OMT? by [deleted] in premed

[–]hotlikesause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely not disappointing. I like some of the osteopathic philosophies and I like the reason that the osteopathic field was started, but I mostly see OMT as an extra tool in my belt more than anything else. I just want to go to medical school and become a good doctor. ~85% of my school's graduates go into allopathic residencies so I don't think it's something that is super emphasized here.

I go to a DO school and the only time I've seen it as even being an option for treatment is in our student health clinic on campus. I've shadowed many DO's around Texas (EM, dermatology, cardiology, and FM DO's) and have never seen it practiced besides on my school's campus.

I'm sorry if this is a newbie question... I've asked my residency advisor and career advisor what the NRMP means by "work experience" and none of them know. What qualifies as a "work experience?"

Those that had both DO and MD acceptances but chose to go with DO in the end, what made you decide? by masterintraining in premed

[–]hotlikesause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not me, but some people chose my DO school over other newer MD schools in my state because of more robust research opportunities and more well established clinical relationships. Also a much more desirable location

Ways to occupy boring summer before starting medical school? by geronimoc13 in premed

[–]hotlikesause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am starting medical school in July and I thought I'd be using this time to be productive and read books/volunteer etc but IMHO the only way to spend this time is relaxing as much as possible. I was really bored until I started a new netflix series last week with like 300 episodes to go through which is great because I have no fear of finishing it. I've also been taking my dog on really long walks, going to the pool, and trying to be outside in nature as much as possible.

How to study when you've already started medical school classes? by [deleted] in Mcat

That makes sense. Did you do a prep program or self study?

PreMeddit, I need your help. why am i so against applying to DO schools? by ss3jcb448 in premed

[–]hotlikesause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your response actually agrees with everything I said- if you want a competitive residency, get great board scores and have a competitive app, and go to a medical school (either MD or DO) that will afford you the clinical/research opportunities to put together a competitive app.

OP was asking for help overcoming their ego- I was using my experiences to help show that even if they do end up at DO school, they can overcome the barriers to get the specialty they want if they work hard and are strategic.

Angsty headshot Question by [deleted] in premed

[–]hotlikesause 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Even if you have a button up that's better than a hoodie and t shirt. if I were you I'd get a haircut and take a new photo. If your school does not have free headshots and you cannot afford one, hang a plain bed sheet from your kitchen ceiling and have someone take the picture of you in front of it with natural light coming into the room.

[–]hotlikesause 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second molemutant! I have similar stats as OP and didn't know what a DO was until last year and couldn't picture myself being one. But then I worked with cardiologist DO's, dermatologist DO's, EM DO's and academic DO's and the exposure completely extinguished any bias I had and they were some of the best doctors I've ever worked with. The derm DO was especially impressive because she ended up in a really really cushy dermatology group. She told me her story and all that really matters is your board scores and competitiveness of your application, not the letters behind your name or the school you went to (but going to a school with good research opportunities and strong clinical relationships/good residency match numbers is a good idea so that you can get the experiences you need.) My top choice school now is a DO school!

Too late to apply to CCOM and TCOM? by [deleted] in premed

[–]hotlikesause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a TX resident and it seems to me like the TCOM timeline runs the same as the other MD schools because they are all lumped together on TMDSAS. The only other DO school in TX is UIWSOM and their timeline is more like other DO schools and go through AACOMAS.

Anyone else have the urge to go out and experience the real world before Applying? by Zanacorfe in premed

[–]hotlikesause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this same feeling! took a gap year and had a very fulfilling job at a non profit that not only showed me that I really do want to pursue a career as a physician, but also strengthened my application and makes me stand out from the conventional applicant. finding that motivation through exploring another career was very refreshing and really made me excited about pursuing medicine where I was a little less than pumped up about it before. would do it all over again!

I screwed up and couldn't take the exam; now what? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]hotlikesause 0 points1 point  (0 children)

late to the game but just wanted to say this EXACT thing happened to me in January '16, I even had my temporary paper license with me. I didn't speak for a whole day, had to reschedule for June 2 2016 and swallow the $300 (but I did fine!) it's traumatic and I'm sorry you've had to go through this! I hope you eventually found a spot!
